Thanks to Shane and team at Allure”
My family of 5 had a wonderful stay at Allure during the last week of Dec 2015. The operator, Shane and his team - Glenn, James and Matt were all very warm and friendly, and always ready to help us on our transportation and restaurant reservation needs. The accommodation location is convenient as the Hakuba 47 shuttle bus stops right at the front, while the other shuttle buses to Happo One, Iwatake and Tsugaike stop at the Tokyu Hotel just a stone's throw away. The rooms are however spartan and the attached bathroom is typically small. Slightly inconvenient but not a big issue, we were at Hakuba to ski. Wifi was strongest at the dinning area but patchy at the common hall and room areas, which was another inconvenience. They served reasonable western breakfast but do not cater for other meals. Overall, I would rate Allure as 'good value for money'. For my family, the warm hospitality had more than made up for the little inconveniences - osewa ni nari mashita

Best service i have ever received”
I can't speak highly enough about the service we received while we stayed at Allure in Hakuba. From when we arrived to when we left we were taken care of as if we were family. As this was our first trip to Hakuba and our first time Snowboarding the advice we received was priceless. We will definitley be back!

A welcome temporary home”
Awesome! Marianne and Shayne are more than happy to help with any info you need, any service and even drop you up for a onsen at the end of the day. As the restaurant was currently out of action they booked us reservations at local restaurants and gave us a lift to dinner if it was snowing. Rooms are basic but spacious and comfy for drying off at the end of the day, and there's a bar ten steps down the hall that's always happy to have your company. The guys here know the local area and have lived there for almost a decade so have a wealth of advice and different options for a visitor, taking the work out of being on holiday. It's a great place to stay and if there is a group the four bed rooms available make it very handy. Would happily recommend to any age group of travellers or families and will definitely be back next time we're in Hakuba.

Great hospitality ”
Shayne and his staff made our stay a comforting one even tho they were short handed at times. From sending us to and fro Hakuba station, making sure our ski equipments were settled flawlessly, sending us to dinner as well. Well, it feels more like a home to us :) what's even better is that there's free shuttle to goryu and 47 right at the doorstep!!

Wonderful surprise in the middle of the mountains”
Our plans didn't work out the way we wanted so we ended up in Hakuba by accident. What a nice surprise! We received a very warm welcome from the owners who did everything they could for us to enjoy our stay. Everything about that place is relaxing and nice; even other guests were friendly and always up for a chat. I definitely recommend staying there!

Great stay”
Shane and the team were great during our stay, will do anything for us. Sure, the rooms are small but it felt homely. There are no big TV's, fridges in the rooms so if you're looking for a hotel type stay then this isn't a place you would like. Coming back everyday skiing to a warm fire in the lounge area was perfect. Wouldn't hesitate staying at Allure again.

Impeccable and personal.”
It was amazing! The owners were very friendly; they made us feel at home. It's a cosy place where you'd like to be when you're left out in the cold, cold region. And they did everything to make us feel welcomed. We will definitely come back to Allure should we visit Nagano again.

Worst Ski Resort ”
1. I booked 3 nights but I moved out after 2nd night. 2. Malfunction heater (during winter) in the room. Replaced by Portable kerosene heater. I've to turn "ON" toilet exhaust fan because of the strong smell from kerosene. 3. Broken toilet seat. (They try to replace it with the fancy Japanese Toilet Bidet but unable to fix with the reason of "UNFIT" nuts, I try not to scold him because I aware it's just an act... Japanese Bidet require power and modified pipe to fit it) 4. Water marked on ceiling and corridor. 5. Malfunction lighting along the staircase (extremely dangerous for kids) and corridor. 6. Insufficient/No fire extinguisher or smoke detector in the resort. This is a dangerous building when fire occur. I strongly advise to report this unfit hotel/resort to the local authorities as it doesn't comply to fire & safety regulation. 7. Addition bed for my 10 year old son, I paid 14,000.00 yen extra for 2 nights. 7,000 yen for a bed/night??? they are charging me 5 star hotel rate in Japan. 8. No hot water during mid night & after 9 am... that's why i left this resort without washing my face & brushing my teeth!!!

The is no allure to the Allure”
After selecting the Allure based on its location and list of amenities (listed on this site and others) it was disheartening to arrive to a run down hostel style “chalet”. Having read reviews on sites ranging from bad to good, we decided to give the team at Allure the benefit of the doubt as many on the poorer reviews were some years ago On arrival no staff were present at the lodge, for a so-called reception desk open “until 2200hrs” there was a distinct lack of staff presence and assistance. Whilst I appreciate that Allure is a lodge and not a grand hotel, staff availability at the denoted arrival times would be appreciated. Once we were finally shown to our room the prestige of the Allure rapidly disappeared. We were greeted by a small room barely able to house two single beds let alone two adults and bags. The room was more akin to a share dorm room then one of the 20 “inviting rooms” Allure claim to have. Having visited Japan numerous times before, we accepted the smaller sizes

Good place to stay”
I enjoyed my stay, particularly because the staff were very helpful. Thanks to Shane and the others! Room was fit for purpose including comfy bed and a private bathroom. I will stay here again in the future.

Avoid”
I booked Allure based on previous reviews but sadly things have changed and I can only pity returning visitors because they are in for a shock. I'd strongly suggest anyone new considering Allure avoids it. We were booked to stay for 12 nights but we left after 10 because we couldn't bear to stay any longer. Reviews from last season spoke highly of Maryann and the rest of the team, however none of them are at Allure anymore. amazing and did everything he could, but the situation was desperate. The facts as follows: The rooms are perishing cold, we got given a kerosene heater to try to compensate. on several occasions that the underfloor heating would be "working soon" but it never was during the entire time we were there. There is no hot water available between 10am-3pm, there's no restaurant - it's all boarded up, no laundry facilities, no room servicing, no linen / towel changes, the walls are paper thin (you can actually hear what your neighbours are saying) it's so noisy with other guests and the old plumbing system that sleep is hard to come by. The "drying room" is ineffectual, we had to dry our kit and our bath towels infront of our kerosene heater in our room each day. There is no choice for breakfast, you get what Shane has decided to cook that day, it works in rotation - sometimes we had egg and bacon, sometimes 2 pancakes and other times 2 slices of fried eggy bread. Breakfast is strictly between 7-8am, we witnessed him leave guests breakfasts on the table to go cold because he had to go and run his ski school. The ski lesson arranged for us was good, but he's spinning so many plates that he has no time for Allure or its guests. It's not a hotel, at best it's just a Bed & Breakfast - a bad one. It's so awful you feel you've been taken for a total mug paying for it.

Not as described.”
Disappointing. On its website Allure boasts a "fantastic Western restaurant", laundry and fitness centre. None of these exist. The sports/lounge bar doubled as a breakfast room with a surly young Australian man serving drinks in the evening. He was of little assistance in any other area. There are no amenities in the room apart from a bar of soap - no shampoo, tissues or even extra toilet paper. Regardless of the length of stay - 7 or 10 or 14 days neither sheets nor towels are changed. Very expensive for the standard of accommodation that is offered.

below standard”
The hotel is below standard. The room is expensive, and the hotel standard and facilities are old and in need of improvement. It is not a 3* hotel. If it were 1* and shown online with actual pictures and actual available facilities it would be ok. But because it is shown as a 3*, and offers facilities online we were ok paying a bit more for our stay. However, these facilities are not available. And what we heard from other guests that they were experiencing the same. Lots of promises, and then excuses from the owner why facilities were not ready/there. Our room was small and did not have a heating. We booked very last minute and that seemed to be the owners excuse for everything. I would not recommend this hotel.

Nice chalet but not that what I expected ”
Shane the owner was very nice n accommodative but the chalet been not properly maintained as 1st the hot water needed to switched on for at least 10 min then only hot water coming out as wastage , 2nd the wall sound proof was horrible as u can heard next room snoring , making ❤️ N etc. 3rd The floor very noisy as people walking n very noisy n it is a timber flooring. 4th - no hosue keeping as I stayed there for 4 nites n totally no house keeping. 5th not enough staff as only Shane n another staff Andrew working . To me this is my 1st n last staying here as with this kind of price I can have many choice n better. Sorry Shane have to tell the truth as u really need to improved all these . Yes u can have many new guests staying but won’t be long .

Friendly operators but substandard operation”
The property is tired, heating was completely substandard, no lights on in the hallways when returning at night, bathroom was very basic. I've stayed in better backpackers and paid less. I booked a deluxe room and it was a far cry from deluxe. Extremely poor value for money. This said the operators and staff are very friendly and helpful.
