My stay in Aarashiyama Benkei Ryokan was absolutely perfect!! The ryokan is a 15 min walk from JR Saga-Arashiyama Station. On reaching the ryokan, my name was displayed on a chalk board outside the main door, nice touch! The ryokan was situated RIGHT next to the river and a 2 min walk from Togetsu Bridge. The staff alsowiped our luggages clean and actually tied on small decorative notes. Such attention to detail, very sweet! On checking into our 12-tatami room with half board (incl dinner and breakfast) on the first floor, we were absolutely wow-ed. The room was very spacious for 2 (can fit 4) and had a wall-to-floor glass door with a small garden outside. The indoor onsen was essentially a small bathtub that can barely fit two regular-sized people, so don't expect much. We paid 2100Y for a 45-min soak in the private outdoor onsen and it was wonderful. Fits two with lots of room. Dinner was served in our room, course-by-course. Each course was so delicate and delicious. When we were done eating, the staff proceeded with setting up our super comfy futons! The yukatas (Jap casual kimonos/bathrobes) came with inner pieces (4 sizes provided), and outer pieces in 4 different colors! Breakfast was served in the dining room, which only had 2 tables, each by the window, with a view of the river. Needless to say, breakfast was also very enjoyable and sumptuous. I didn't try the public baths, but the outdoor one looked really great too! There was also a free-to-use massage chair that really hit the spot on my back. Check-in and check-out was totally hassle-free. I only produced my booking in softcopy during check-in, and paid my extra charges on check-out. That was all. I really loved this place. The staff were attentive and also watched us for a good 2 min as we made our way out, making us feel really cherished as guests. Though this place was slightly more expensive in my opinion (about 50,000 Y), I will definitely recommend this place to EVERYONE!

It’s hard to find good hotels at this price. We wanted a chill overnight stay in Arashiyama, after all the walking and sightseeing/food tripping we did in Kyoto and Osaka. This room was perfect for that — we had a huge living space, huge room, huge bathroom (with a jacuzzi/tub), and a very beautiful and peaceful view of the river. Right at the heart of Arashiyama with a view of the Katsura river, a 2-5min walk to nearby bus stops and train stations, 2-min walk to the monkey park, 5-min walk to the bamboo forest, but away from the crowds of tourists. A perfect cap to end our Kansai trip :) Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Check in was supposed to be at 4pm, but they accepted our early check in when we arrived before 1pm. We were also able to leave our bags the next day after our check out, so we could still roam around the area. Bento breakfast was so-so (would’ve preferred a more traditional home-cooked teishoku), but it was all good and worth it :)

very near to one of the arashiyama station (but not the JR arashiyama station), onsen is clean and nice, though a bit small, which can cater around 15 ppl each time. They got private onsen which is a very good choice for couples. Rooms are a bit small, comparing to other onsen hotels, but it is spacious enough to stay overnight. Dinner are fairly good, with an excellent service as well as unlimited alcohol and juice supply. All in all, a good onsen hotel.

Very pleased I found this place, it balances experiencing Japan (kimonos and calligraphy in the rooms) with Western comforts (staff speak decent English, restaurant downstairs does excellent Western food with a Japanese twist). Rooms look brand new in terms of decoration! I had heard that Japanese people are friendly and helpful, and the Grandwest exemplifies that. It's not too far to walk into Arashiyama and theres a good café doing breakfast 5 minutes away (Yado café). Note that there are actually 3 train stations in Arashiyama and if you go to the JR one you'll be a long tiring walk from the hotel. Instead go to Hankyu Arashiyama station and the hotel will be a very short walk. I will definitely come back.

This delightful Ryokan was just outside Kyoto. We planned our trip in the morning so that we would have our last port of call Kinkakuji. From there we hunted around for a Lawson station and bought a few snacks and drinks for after dinner. We caught 2 taxies near the "Golden Pavilion". The cost was each which was well worth it since we had a group of 6 and we were all tired from a big day. Staff greeted us and we were very happy with the room. He speaks some English was very welcoming. Around the corner we ate at the attached restaurant. The Donburi was excellent value at Y980. We had a relaxing bath and back to our rooms for some IPAD karaoke and chuhi on the landing outside our rooms. Everything was clean and gorgeous. The access to WiFi and a computer was an added bonus. Breakfast was a choice of western (toast, coffee, eggs)or Japanese . Both were great. We were able to catch the JR bus almost outside next day to Enmachi Station then a short train ride to Arashiyama. Best stay in Japan I've had at a small Ryokan and excellent value. Don't be put off by the location. The beautiful gardens and traditional feel make it worthwhile. Recommend you stop at the visitors centre when you arrive at Kyoto Stn and discuss your options with the staff there.

We had a great stay at Riverside Arashiyama. An easy 3-minute walk from Hankyu Arashiyama station, this property has larger-than-usual rooms and cozy beds with fluffy duvets. The en-suite bathroom was well-appointed with both shower & tub, plus shelves for toiletries, and a sliding door for privacy when using the shower/sink area. The kitchenette had a hot water pitcher, a mini-fridge, microwave, and large sink with 3 mugs and 3 glasses. We made coffee, tea, and oatmeal easily, and I bought some dish soap and a sponge for washing up, since there is no housekeeping service during one's stay. In fact, my only 2 complaints are: distance and train changes needed to get to Kyoto proper, and the lack of (at least) towel-exchange and trash-removal service during our 5 nights here. If I travel alone to Kyoto, I'd stay here again. But hauling bags and a 4 year old through multiple train transfers back and forth proved unwieldy. On the plus side, Arashiyama Park and the river are a 5-minute walk away, and our son loved running and playing in that area. Blooming cherry blossom trees made it all the more lovely. Reception went out of his way to locate a coin laundromat for me. Thank you for an overall excellent stay!

The property is a wonderful blend of traditional Japanese flavor and modern comfort. The location - right by the Hozu River and next to Arashiyama Park - is beautiful. Service is thoughtful and friendly. One major complaint is about housekeeping: trash can not emptied, yukata robes likely not washed, a film of black gunk in the pot containing bath salt. Overall a pleasant quick getaway, but would expect better housekeeping for the price.

Right next to Jr, just drag out luggage from train station n check into hotel. 5min walk to sagano train and abt 15min walk to arashiyama bamboo. V conveniently located. Breakfast n dinner provided was of excellent quality. Even catered special meals for my vegetarian dad and kids meal to e kids. There was a onsen which was not bad. Rooms had a extra bed which was v big for 2 adults n 2 kids. Only thing is we forgot our toiletries and towels in e bathroom when we checked out, but the housekeeping didn't return it to us when we collected e luggage at 4pm. Experience from Other hotels would have returned it.

Mulan Hostel was a great place to stay in Kyoto. The owners were kind and friendly and explained everything clearly in English. The hostel was very clean and well maintained. The accommodations were very comfortable with good features like a lock box and WiFi access. The hostel was located near the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and it was about a ten minute walk through a pleasant neighborhood. The hostel is located about 20 minutes by foot from the nearest JR station at Saga Arishiyama, but just three minutes from Arishiyama station. There is also a convenience store right next to the station so it was easy to get food and drinks. I would definitely stay here again.

Ranzen is located right at the heart of Arashiyama, a very beautiful town on the outskite of Kyoto, next to the Hozu river and close to all the major shirnes and main attractions. It has a very nice garden with big rooms by Japanese standard. We spent one night there and had a fantastic time. I would highly recommand a night's stay in Arashiyama as you can really explore this beautiful town after the tourist crowd is gone and you can also take in the tranquile morning senary of the place. Ranzen can lend you a bicycle for free and I found that this is the best way to explore Arashiyama as, although most shrines are asscessible by foot, it is so much more fun and faster to get there on the bike!

If you stay here you will never regret. The host is very kind and helpful , this place is 2 km away from Arashiyama and 1km from station bikes are available for rent , ** 1st day rent a bike and cover all the spots (25 km max ) 2nd day checkout and on the way to Arashiyama put your language in a locker at station and on the way back go straight to the station and next destination :) we found this location to save lot of time cover most of the spots in just 2 days ,

the first time of staying in a adult hotel. the hotel is under renovation during my stay, the interior and condition of the hotel is a bit old. The door of your room is under the control of reception, you need to contact them everytime if you want to get in or out. You have a bathtub in bathroom, and bath salt are free of charge, you will find it in the reception. There is only December, but the heater in the room seem not strong enough to warm the big room, we have a freezing night, you will feel the freeze during shower time.

We changed plans last-minute and added an extra night in Kyoto. We found this cozy boutique hotel in a quieter neighborhood but just 5-10 minutes' walk from the main Arashiyama sights. The staff was beyond friendly and accommodating, even for the famously gracious Japanese. The hotel was built in July 2018 and was immaculate, the rooms were surprisingly spacious, and the bed was the most comfortable we found among five hotels on our trip. Just 2 blocks from the nearest metro stop it's a hidden gem for the Arashiyama area!

YADO ARASHIYAMA has got everything you need. The staff, especially the one who helped us when we arrived at night, Mr. Yamaga, who we will give a lot of credit, is professional and eager to help customers. The location is great if you would like to wake up and go sightseeing in Arashiyama area so that you can avoid 30 minutes train ride with possible morning rush hour. Most of accommodations you may book that area are traditional style and quite expensive for that reason. Don’t get me wrong, staying at “Ryokan” is one of recommended experiences I’d give you as Japanese, but you have to review your budget plan before booking one. YADO ARASHIYAMA is reasonable and at a great location.

I am thoroughly impressed by the friendliness of the staff, even some of them don't speak that good of a English, but they are eager to help. Even recommended me where to find the beautiful Kimono that they have for the guests to wear. Bath house is a little small, but very clean and quiet. The 10 course dinner was really best value-for-money. Delicate and freshly prepared. They serve one course at the time in the comfort of your bedroom. I would recommend it to anyone who is spending a night in Arashiyama

Had an excellent stay here at Guest House Atagoya. Mr. Kenji Wada, the owner and manager of the ryoukan is so hospitable and so kind to us. I was with three of my friends and due to the long queue at the immigration, we arrived at the guest house late at night. But Mr. Wada was so kind to still accommodate us and he even went as far as giving us orientations on how to go to the tourist sites (train and bus information). We got some savings because we only get the ¥500 all-day pass for Kyoto bus thru him. Guest House Atagoya is a traditional Japanese house or a ryoukan. We slept on the tatami mat with a futon. The room has a heater/airconditioning unit. There is one shared bathroom downstairs and shared kitchen. Mr Wada provides free coffee and free use of kitchen utensils. There are also free toiletries in the bathroom. It is also near the Saga-arashiyama train station and near (walking distance) from all tourist spots in Arashiyama. So conveniently located and we frequent this Japanese restaurant nearby and the staff are so friendly. I would definitely recommend Guest House Atagoya to my friends and acquiantances who want to visit Kyoto.
