Our stay at the Villa Borobudur was the capstone to an extended trip of a lifetime through Southeast Asia. The design of the facility reflects traditional Javanese architecture and is centered on the ancient Buddhist Temple Borobudur located in the valley below. We expected the views to be superlative but what was unexpectedly wonderful was the food. The all Indonesian menu provides a perfect way enjoy the environment and experience Java. Each guest selects from a diverse menu of local dishes which are then prepared fresh daily from local sources including the villa grounds and fields using mostly organic farming practices. The quality of the preparation and presentation is world class literally the best Indonesian food I have ever experienced. Almost nightly entertainments, provided in beautiful open air communal rooms' are drawn from the local community and are culturally appropriate to the setting. The staff was continually attentive but not intrusively so, well versed in English and simply a joy to be around. The Villa Borobudur is thoughtfully and responsibly well run in every aspect. Our stay there could not have been more pleasant. We dream of returning again some day.

Stayed here for a night for the Borobudur sunrise. Good location to explore Borobudur as it is 5-10 minutes away in the morning. Called the hotel ahead of time and they arranged a driver from the airport for 250,000 IDR and arranged shuttle to Borobudur in the morning free of charge. They also helped arranged transportation after check out to prambanan and our future hotel in Jogjakarta. There is a restaurant there which was nice for dinner and they provide a sizable breakfast after returning from the sunrise view. We booked a luxury bungalow which was more like a cute rustic cabin, it was clean and the air conditioning worked. Only complaint was the mosquitoes in the room which was better after 4-5 hours of the electric mosquito repellent which they provided. There were also a lot of ants in the bathroom so we kept bathroom door closed and used vanity in room and bathroom only as needed. Our room was already paid for when we arrived and they mentioned charging our credit card for a deposit and after some confusion with the language barrier at check out we realized that it wasn’t really a deposit but getting the credit card as a receipt for the payment through Agoda. All in all a good base stay near Borobudur for the amazing sunrise experience.

The hotel is very comfortably located just next to the entrance to Borobudur temple, which is the main reason we selected this hotel. We contacted them before our arrival and inquired about a pick up from Yogyakarta Airport. They were very helpful and even suggested that since we arrived in the morning, to take us with the car to see Prambanan temples and then later to go to the hotel. And this for a small addition fee. Everything worked out wonderful. The driver was very nice and we were able to see Prambanan, taking our time before going to the hotel. The following morning they helped us arrange a sunrise visit to Borobudur. You wake up at 04:30 and they take you with a car to the special sunrise entrance. It is highly recommended as it is a unique experience to see this beautiful temple during sunrise. I highly recommend to stay at a hotel like Watu Agung and not in Yogyakarta. It is a huge advantage to be so close to the temple. The rooms in the hotel were small but still comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful. I can highly recommend Watu Agung Guest House.

During my stay the hot water is not working, i choose room number 1 there is the best view to see borobudur temple with merapi merbabu mountain as the background. The swimming pool edges are sharp, dangerous for children, please follow up. Parking is too far, but still need more spaces. unfortunately a tower blocked the borobudur view from restaurant. This is a good place to find serenity.

Nice and cheap hotel close to the location of the Borobudur temple. The location little bit inside in the shophouse (ruko) area. Know this location from Maps and the rating is pretty good. Parking in front of the hotel in a row of shop houses but it is safe because there is a hotel and shophouse security. If you traveling with family, take 2 rooms with connecting door. If you want to have a view, take a room with a higher class. Even though it's in a shop house complex, but the hotel is comfortable and clean.

As soon as we arrived, the sympathetic manager took great care of us, travelling as a family and having plans to watch the early sunrise at Borobudur the next morning. If you have come this far to see Borobudur, and the weather is fine, always opt in for the early morning (0430 AM) sunrise admission, which is a steep 380.000 rps (children 50% off) in stead of the normal fare of 240.000 rps. You can buy all these tickets with the manager of the guesthouse and he will also take you there on his motorbike at no extra costs. If you have time, stay at least 2 nights, because there are so many things to see in the area around Borobudur: friendly villages, that you can walk through or discover by bicyle or motor bike. In this price range, you won't find a better place.

The hotel is beautiful and very clean. All the hotel staff is very friendly and ready to help at any time. The food was delicious the best food in Indonesia that we had. homemade food very tasty and fresh. The hotel is an excellent value for money. The rooms are very cozy and with good air condition. The pool was very relaxing and very clean. I will give 10 out of 10 to this lovely hotel.

Great, for location wise please be wary as it is located at the sides of Borobudur. To reach the destination please contact the staff of the hotel they will provide direction for your taxi driver or driver to transfer you there. They do provide airport transfer as well please contact the staff. You will be shock when you make your way in, but will be amaze with what the hotel can offer. More than a two stars hotel with friendly staff and big rooms. Food has a taste of local food although most of the staff only can speak their own language and not english they go for the extra mile by trying to fulfill your needs. Overall a very pleasant stay at this hotel, will definitely come back for this hotel in the near future.

Pro: - Near Borobudur, no need to wake up too early for Borobudur Marathon - Scenery was beautiful. especially in the morning. - The grounds and the ampitheatre. My children loved to play and run here n there. - the staffs were very polite and super helpful. they helped me buying food and groceries. con : - the property seemed not ready for big event like Borobudur Marathon, when Borobudur area flooded with people, full occupancies of rooms, and not enough electricity supply. We experienced power cut the entire night (on/off). they tried to get genset but it wouldn't help. luckily we are heavy sleepers, it didn't bother us too much. - cleanliness was poor, esp. in our room (srikandi). The room was outdated (my room. Other rooms seemed newly built and had more modern touch), ants everywhere (they nested in old wooden walls). This property had a lot of potencies if managed profesionally. upon checked out, they insisted to give my money back, to express their apology for all the inconveniences due to electricity matters. would I come back again? maybe when I see some improvements. thank you Balkondes Tuksongo.

We arrived at Efata close to 9pm after a tiring day of adventure, and felt immediately refreshed by the warm hospitality from Ika and his wife. They were so kind and helpful, and provided all the info we needed quickly so we could settle in and have a good night's rest. Ika gave us really important tips on how to get the best experience in borobudur. 😉 he's really so nice to chat with, and goes the extra mile to assist whenever possible. It's great we could sleep in and take just 5-10 mins to walk to the borobudur entrance. The room is clean and comfortable with air conditioning, and breakfast was home-cooked and lovely. We were so happy to stay here because of the hosts' charming and genuine hospitality.

If you want to put yourself into Indonesian rural ambience this is the place . It is not Ritz or Carlton but it is very pleasant and soulful . We had big half openair room for 2 pers. with old wooden traditional furniture , bed ( a little saggy and creaky), kitchenette , outdoor shower ( no hot water but it is not problem here is warm ) and very helpful owner Andreas . He provided us with very tasty traditional breakfast . During a day we could enjoy with tea or coffee in common area . Borobudur is in walking distance , about 10 minutes . Traditional local market nearby . We like this place .

We had chosen Hotel Saraswati for it's location close to the Borobudur. We were not dissapointed, it is really a 3 minute walk from the Hotel Saraswati to the entrance gate of the Borobudur complex. Also scooter rental to explore the area a bit further can be found at a stonethrow distance from the hotel gate. As a bonus, we were pleasantly surprised by the serene atmosphere in Hotel Saraswati. A haven of piece and quiet if you walk from the street filled with scooters and the occasional tourist elephant through the gate. Inside the interior decor is of old colonial style luxury. This is the opposite of an anonymous and crowded conference or touringbus hotel, this is a treat! The staff is all very friendly, helpful and competent. Maintenance is a challenge, as almost everywhere in this region, which shows in some finishings in lobby and pool area. Having said that, our room was clean, spacious and comfortable, good airco, nice hot shower, great high ceilings. In the evening we have had dinner in the hotel and enjoyed the Gado-gado dish, the spring rolls and Javanese chicken curry, but also lasagnes, pasta's and western cuisine is on the menu, just as wines and beer (a local Bintang is the best after hot day of Borobudur exploring). In the background, to emphasize the serene atmosphere, soft tunes of a live played gamelan gently fill the stylish and tastefully decorated dining room and lobby area where ceiling fans and outside breeze through open windows and terrace doors bring a relaxing coolness that we prefer over a freezing airco that you would find in most other hotels. All in all, we find Hotel Saraswati a very nice haven for Borobudur visitors who go for style, friendly personal service, piece and quiet.

This was one of my fav hotels i stayed in indonesia. It was super clean and the room was really comfy! They speak english and are very welcoming. I think my fav feature of the hotel was the outside lobby and how everything seemed built to be a buddhist altar/ sanctuary.. It had a really peaceful feel to it. The breakfast is great. Eggs, toasts with jam, a choice of coffee or tea and a choice of fresh squeezed juice. The location is a lil bit far away from borobudur temple but they will take u in a car or moto to see it.. I think the ride is about 5 min. There in the city, right to the left to the temple there is a coffee shop owned by a east indonesia ( she is from ambon next papua). The name of the coffee shop/restaurant is Paski.. The atmosphere is great for foreigners, she speaks english, cooks the most amazing fried bananas and chicken i ever ate! Also her juices are from another world! Try the pinapple and cucumber one. We become her friends and that night she lent her is her bike so we could visit the villages around burubudur, after taking us to see the tobacco and the rice fields in her free time ( she doesnt accept money for this, she just wants everyone to see her borobudur). I recomend you stay 2 nights in borobudur and really see what the city is about. This hotel was what we needed after a long day visiting villages. Clean, warm, and friendly place to rest!! There is food in the hotel restaurant but is a little bit price compared to city price.

We really enjoy to stay at this guest house during our Borobudur trip :) The best thing is all the staff are super friendly. They serve us as friend! As we never expect about this so we really surprised and happy to booked this guest house. Before we trip, we emailed with the owner of this guest house about the tour. He suggested us an awesome bicycle tour to phunchak Setumpu for the sunrise... Is really awesome that we cycling around the village and villager's farm. A pretty environment for us! Also, it is so near to the Candi Borobudur. For those who want to have a sunrise at Candi Borobudur, this is a good choice for u! Beside, it is also near to a traditional market, pos office, some small Candi....just need to cycle around Borobudur( 5-15 minutes).... The rooms at this inn are basic but clean. The owners speak excellent English and were very helpful in arranging a sunrise visit to Candi Borobudur and in offering suggestions for a self-guided walking tour of the area including visits to Candi Mendut and Candi Pawon. The on-site restaurant is similarly simple but good. The inn is about 1 km from the main entrance to Candi Borobudur, an easy walk in daylight. The room had air-con, although a fan would have been perfectly comfortable. It needed a mosquito net (screens were not perfect) and some clothes hooks.

We arranged for the hotel to pick us up from airport, which they did with additional charge of 300 000rupiah which is reasonable enough considering that the hotel takes an hour plus to reach from the airport, and we arrived late in the evening and were just glad to be collected straight away to the hotel. The driver ujang is also very helpful and suggested best ways to make the most of our stay in Borobudur apart from going to Borobudur itself. Hotel room was very comfortable , not spacious but who needs the extra space anyway, the bathtub is divine and large window gives nice view to Javanese garden outside. We walked to the Borobudur entrance which is not very far but we felt overwhelmed by huge crowd turning up taking advantage of eid holiday. Best not to pick peak season to visit Borobudur next time. Staffs are very helpful and gracious. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone planning to visit historical Borobudur but again do not go during peak season! Hahaha

We stayed for only 2 nights but we enjoyed the place. Pros: 1. Good location If you want to join Borobudur sunrise tour then it's a great place to stay. The hotel also provides transportation (free motorbike ride) to the gate of Borobudur if you book the tour at their reception. 2. Friendly and attentive staff We checked in at 12:00 pm but there was staff there to check us in. They were also very responsive to our emails. 3. Good breakfast Simple but delicious. They offered Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng with tea or coffee. If you cannot eat spicy food, tell them to not make it spicy. Cons: no English channel on the TV
