Rustic and charming, good value”
Cempaka Guest House's greatest asset is the friendly staff. They are very polite, helpful, and accommodating. They definitely provide the bulk of the value to the property. The setting is quite rustic, just outside the busiest part of the strip around Borobudur Park. There were chickens and goats about and we could hear roosters crowing. We could also hear the call to prayer from several nearby mosques. None of these things were troublesome and were in fact very charming. The early morning prayer was much quieter; we couldn't hear it from inside our room. The room we stayed in was a bit small, but comfortable. There was not much room for anything but the bed. The bathroom was large, almost as large as the bedroom, and very rustic but with modern fixtures and amenities. The building itself was a bit worn, with cracks in the wooden walls. Again, these caused no incovenience. The air conditioning worked very well. We would definitely stay at Cempaka Guest House again.

Fantastic stay in Borobudur”
I very much enjoyed my stay at the Cempaka Guest House. It is really just across the street from Borobudur. The staff are wonderful. They helped me arrange the Sunrise tour of Borobudur and drove me there. They drove me each night to a monestary to meditate. Breakfast was simple but very good. The room and bath were basic but clean and comfortable. I very much enjoyed my stay and was very pleased with the helpfulness of the staff.

I had an unforgetable trip during the visit in Yogyakatar, specially this hotel, the Manager, Mr. Usep can speak very well in English, and very helpful to co-ordinate some activeties for guest. the duty staff, Mr Budi, a kind hearted person, treat the guest in his sincerity. the room is awesome, specially the bathroom. Miss Amar, who serve us good breakfast. the location, is walking distance to Borobudur Temple. although this hotel only have 9 rooms, but this can let the guess with a quiet environment during the stay. highly recomment to every traverllers who intend to visit Borobudur, and spend their night.

Location near to Borobudur”
The guest house is a challenge to find. Taxi drivers even have to ask locals the whereabouts of this place. However, it is located about a mile from the temple. For those who want to save, you can take the Damri bus to Borobudur (not Magelang) from the airport at 80,000 rupiah one way. Once you reach the bus station in Borobudur, either you walk a mile or take a ojek about 3,000 rupiah to the guest house. This guest house is made up of huts, like chalets, low ceiling height and have basic necessities like hot shower, toiletries. At night, you cannot venture out because there is no where you can go. No shops or eateries, totally dead and dark by nightfall. If you take a trip to visit the Borobudur, Budi the helpful staff who tripled as a check in staff, cook and guide, will take you on his motorbike at 5am to Manohara Hotel where you pay 380,000 rupiah for the entrance fee to see the sunrise. Although the price is steep, once you are in Yogya, visit it for once in a life time. Special thanks to Budi who can speak English and provide you with any tour information that you may want.

Refreshing calmness”
The building & the room makes you feel like living in a traditional Javanese house. The deluxe room has a bathtub! For the price, it really exceeded my expectation. The girl that was in charge during out stay was very nice. She made us very tasty fried rice for our breakfast. The location is very strategic, only approx. 5minutes walk to Borobudur temple. Perfect if you want to get there first thing in the morning. This hotel also provide bicycle rental.

No complaints at all.”
The room was pleasant, we had a small issue with hot water and they immediately changed the room for us, no questions asked! On our second night, we had our dinner at the hotel not knowing that the kitchen was closed. They went out to buy us dinner anyway when they could've easily say that they are closed. I have absolutely no complaints at all, for the price that we paid, their service was unparalleled. Thank you Cempaka and your staff for their wonderful hospitality. Two thumbs up!!

The most sympathetic place to visit Borobudur from”
As soon as we arrived, the sympathetic manager took great care of us, travelling as a family and having plans to watch the early sunrise at Borobudur the next morning. If you have come this far to see Borobudur, and the weather is fine, always opt in for the early morning (0430 AM) sunrise admission, which is a steep 380.000 rps (children 50% off) in stead of the normal fare of 240.000 rps. You can buy all these tickets with the manager of the guesthouse and he will also take you there on his motorbike at no extra costs. If you have time, stay at least 2 nights, because there are so many things to see in the area around Borobudur: friendly villages, that you can walk through or discover by bicyle or motor bike. In this price range, you won't find a better place.

Basic”
The guest house is clean and pleasant but the bathroom ventilation gives off an awful stink, plus room air-conditioner wasn't working well and heater wasn't working too. Basic and cramp standard rooms. But the one thing that makes Cempaka Guest House a success is the staff team - Ama, Ro and Hoya.

Pretty Clean & Decent Place”
Cempaka is pretty clean and decent place. The compound is quite well landscaped with pebbled walk way and cement squares towards the rooms. Although a tad cramped, the place feels well-maintained. The staff are friendly. Breakfast could be a little slow if you're the first one to make the order. Ours' were the second order; we didn't wait too long for it - about 10-15 min. The nasi and mee goreng were quite tasty. Near to important places i.e. Borobudur, Punthuk Setumbu, Stupa Restaurant. Well recommended!
