"Hotel is a group of rooms in a big garden, overlooking the Batti lagoon. Everything runs like clockwork - management have obviously bothered to work out what visitors actually want and provide it well. Food is excellent and very cheap and the pool is the best we found in Sri Lanka with a beautiful view over the lagoon. We took a boat trip also provided by the hotel which was great, and they also rented us a scooter to explore the area. The rooms were a little dated but comfortable and clean. Other positives included an information pack on places to visit and good breakfast choices including plenty of local options. I wish all hotels were as well run as the Riviera Resort. We were only there 2 days but would go back anytime ! Highly recommended."

"Nice hotel - certainly the most upmarket we stayed in when we were in Sri Lanka. It's slightly out on a limb so transport is a bit difficult unless you've got your own car/driver (we didn't). Best thing to do is to get the phone number of a tuk-tuk driver. Breakfast was good, evening food was a bit indifferent."

"setting the scene. we are a couple (in our 30s) and travelled a month in sri lanka. we saw lots of places and usually spent between 40 and 80 dollars per night. however, we also know more expensive places from other travels. we came to karpaha sands for a longer stay as it was our highlight also price wise. at the beginning we’ve been told that there is a soft opening, which we didnt know from the booking. what we liked. the location is very new and the bungalows (especiall the outdoor shower) the restaurant and the pool are really nice! the beach is also a dream and there are no tourists and no other hotels around. we also liked the fact that they employ local people and they really tried. but... what we didn‘t like. actually there are many little things, but in the sum it was too much for us. in the garden bungalows were around six stray dogs „welcoming“ us every time. they were fighting, peeing on our terrace and we barely could get rid of them. in the room several things like, toilet paper, candles, body lotion... most of it got replaced, but for example the candles weren‘t even after asking twice. the spa wasn‘t available at that time even though part of the offering on agoda. the service and the cook seemed not to be ready and trained for a proper job. english was sometimes an issue, 1 person in the room service for 17 bungalows, food was very limited and for this kind of hotel a disappointment, long waiting times, forgot orders, ... conclusion. most of these points are minor and excusable, but in the sum it is not. we thought about it a lot and we would have be ok with it, but the price (by the way, the price on agoda is without 10% service charge, without food and drinks and without 15% VAT, so on the credit card you will find a 25% increase at the end) is at the moment just way too high for what you get. the staff trys hard, but for what we paid we just expect high standards and not a soft opening. then „soft“ prices would be "

"I was in RoaBaa for five days on a business travel. The owner, Mr. Nava is fully dedicated to provide a super friendly service. He came to the road to pick me at 3.30 am. He has a very high concerns on fulfilling the requirements of guests. BoaBaa Guesthouse is located in a very convenience location, especially for business travelers. The cleanliness of the room and the bathroom are superb. They offered delicious local breakfast and dinner throughout my stay there. "

"Do NOT book with Agoda. They did not provide us with a phone number. Neema and her husband had no idea when we were arriving. And we have no idea exactly where it is located. They sent me an e-mail via Agoda which I never received. By now they have turned on the instant booking with Airbnb. Please use Airbnb to book. This wonderful couple waited for us till 9 AM and we arrived at around 1 PM. However, this place is so clean and pleasant and I can not say enough about this BEAUTIFUL couple, inside, out that it did not matter that we had a tour of entire Navalady by our clueless tuktuk driver. Our room was downstairs which we loved. The entire garden is squeaky clean with the surrounding village and the desolate beach just filled with plastic and other crap. Sitting upstairs on the balcony and watching life going by, watching sun rise while walking on the beach were just an incredible sociological experience. We watched 23 grown, able bodied men working on catching fish for about two hours only to find out that there is "no fish". The few little ones that got caught in the net was worth less than $4 (US). This place has the best equipped kitchen in Sri Lanka in our 3 weeks of travel here so far. I would have given them a 6 star out of 5 if there was hot water in the shower :) Bring food to warm up (yes, there is a microwave oven) and cook and you will be all set. I will recommend this place whole heatedly."
