"My wife and I flew into Zanzibar and spent our first 3 days in Stone Town The first night Tembo put us in the Tembo Apartments which is in a separate building across the street without a view of the Zanzibar Channel. The desk manager promised to move us and the next 2 nights we were in Room 026 which was a fantastic corner suite with balcony overlooking the Channel. Tembo is short walk to old Fort and Wonder House Boats to Prison Island tortoise sanctuary leave from in front of the hotel No alcohol at Hotel restaurant but there are other venues literally next door Hyatt Hotel is next door as well Book Tembo water view and you will be pleased"

"I was extremely impressed with the 3 nights I spent at the Zanzibar Grand Palace. The room was excellent with good facilities and very comfortable. The hotel is fantastically designed and the rooftop restaurant is a wonderful spot. The location is great being close to both Forodhani Gardens and Darajani Markets but being very peaceful and quiet. I had a wonderful stay here and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a reasonably-priced, clean hotel in a good location with exceptional staff and a wonderful design."

"At first when we arrived there was a bit of confusion about our booking. Also as we checked in very early (as I had requested in advance) we were first given a room that was already occupied by someone else. When I pointed out that there was already someone elses stuff in the room they moved us to a different room. This time the room had no window and I requested to have a room with a window. For me it is not about the view but a safety thing, what if there is a fire? We were told that they had no other rooms available at the moment but that we could keep our luggage in here until later when a room with a window would be available. After all this we ended up in a large tripple room with a window and we were both happy with it. The hotel is within walking distance to everything in Stonetown but also quite close to the harbour and might not be the best area to stay in if you are travelling as a single woman. We had no problems in the area as a couple though. Worth the price."

"We came here on our trip around Africa. They had overbooked due to the full moon party the next night so tried originally to put us in staff quarters instead of the room we had booked. After a night though we were able to get moved to a nicer room which was night and day better. Full moon party was lots of fun and if thats your scene I would definitely recommend. If not, the party activity is farther away from most of the rooms so shouldn't be an issue. Hotel is a bit isolated form some of the other things to do around this area of Zanzibar. "

"Im very glad I discovered this little gem. Stone town has no shortage of charming boutique properties, but the Seyyida was special. Its nestled away near the ferry port and surrounded by interesting ancient fortress-like buildings. It is a bit away from all the tourist shops and touts. When you step out of the hotel front door, you are right in the middle of authentic stone town life. However, the tourists stuff is a short 5 min walk away. The sea-port view view from the roof top restaurant and lounge is great. Breakfast is generous and varied, and the lunch/dinner menu is a bit more sophisticated then other Stone town eateries. Very nice quality food! Do pay a little more and book a seaview terrace room; the others only look out upon a wall. The rooms are so comfortable! The décor is a pleasing mix of traditional east African furnishings mixed with modern, trendy upholstery and touches. The king bed was great, romantic surrounded by mozzie netting. The Air con worked well. there is wifi, but not so good in the rooms. Reception is better up in the restaurant. My only issue was that my room was below the restaurant and they start the breakfast set up at 6 am, so it was very noisy; I wanted to sleep in and enjoy the bed, but each morning I was awoken by the noise upstairs. Unfortunately the spa wasn't functioning while I was there, but you could book an in room massage if you wanted it. There is a small garden courtyard located at the back of the property. I enjoyed my stay, loved the location, and will stay here when next in Zanzibar."
