Good option ”
Very spacious, simple rooms, all windows with mosquito protection, close to the center. Quiet location, beautiful gardens, birds chirping, pool okay, staff friendly, very good value for money.

Nice for the price”
Baan Soontree is clean and quite pleasant, and if you're on a typical Westerner-in-Asia budget, the price is ridiculously low. There was a bit of confusion with us based on reading too many other Agoda reviews: We thought breakfast was included in our rate, but it wasn't. But that wasn't a big deal; there was breakfast available at a reasonable price, though it was fairly average. There is a nice pool, and an exercise room, though the latter is bare bones and not really that well maintained. The staff is friendly and quite helpful. Google Maps says the location is about a 20-minute walk from the Chiang Rai night market. We know the city a bit, so went out on our own — and frankly, the 20-minute estimate is quite optimistic! And the hotel itself isn't the easiest to find; it's on a rather small street, so you'd better hope your cab driver knows his/her way around. My wife's niece lives in Chiang Rai, and her boyfriend was able to find it....eventually. So location isn't the biggest selling point. That said, Baan Soontree is a real bargain and a nice place to spend a few days in Chiang Rai.

Good”
Baan Songtree is about 25 min walking distance away from bus station to Chiangmai or clock tower. Tuktuk is 80 THB. The area is very quiet and the garden is nice. My bungalow (Nr 5) however had only wall view and so my stay was rather disappointing.

Quiet beautiful retreat”
We were looking for a well-priced, comfortable stay for a couple of nights while doing business in Chiang Rai and were pleasantly delighted by Baan Soontree. The room is spacious, clean and the decor lovely. There is a kitchenette / sitting area as well as lovely bedroom and bathroom - and you have your own outdoor balcony. The staff are lovely and you are not overwhelmed by people. There is a clean pool. Breakfast is limited in option but western, fresh and more than adequate with good coffee. It is away from the centre of town and a little difficult to find. You'd need transport but it was no problem to us as we had a car. The bed was comfortable and everything provided you could need including robes and hairdryer. I would stay there again and recommend it. Oh, and the gym has some new equipment (read in another review that it was limited)

Nice boutique hotel located near Chiang Rai city”
We had our own transportation and we're looking for a place to stay near Chiang Rai to break up our visa run to Mae Sai. The hotel is located one street off the major highway 1 off a small soi. Bit difficult to find so arrive with daylight to spare. Parking is available with reception located nearby. This is a boutique hotel and quite nicely layed out in a court yard design with rooms on the outside and pool w/ decking area, small fitness room and eating area located at one end. We booked only the night before and got an excellent rate on the superior (standard rooms) but were pleasantly upgraded to a deluxe when we arrived (I surprise to double booking or an extension of an existing guest). The room was a decent size with a mid size bedroom (tv, dressing area etc..) and a separate living area with a sliding door in between. Fridge, coffee kettle etc. are all provided. Nice wooden decor with a homely yet modern feel. A simple breakfast was included including rice, eggs, toast, cereal, coffee/tea etc.. If you're looking for an elaborate buffet breakfast go elsewhere. Overall I would stay at the Soontree hotel again for value, convenience and comfort. We travelled with a 1.5 year old who also enjoyed exploring the hotel site and had ample of room in the deluxe room to enjoy. this hotel is about a 5-8min drive from downtown Chiang Rai.

Comfortable, peaceful stay with friendly staff”
Baan Soontree was quiet and great for couples. We had a little private cabin with a king sized bed (even though Agoda only had twins left when we booked, we requested a king and they were able to accommodate!) The staff were fantastic. When a friend from Phuket tried getting in touch with us, they were adamant about making sure we knew and called for us using the hotel cell phone. Another day, they arranged a cheap driving tour for us to the north, half the price of what some of the tours in town cost (that said, our fave tour was a bike tour to the White Temple and waterfall, which we booked in town.) Fitness room was clean and never had anyone in it (couple nice bikes and an elliptical). They provide shampoo, soap, cotton swabs, etc. Only minor downsides were lack of variety in breakfast (though I'd rather eat light and save up for lunch and dinner in town or on the street anyhow!) and that it's about a 15-20 minute walk into town. But the front desk is happy to call you a tuk tuk - they normally cost about 80 baht. Breakfast includes toast/croissants, jam, fresh fruit, cereal/milk, yogurt, fried eggs, mini hot dogs, coffee/juice and a hot dish that rotates every day (i.e. pork fried rice).

Delightful, friendly little hotel”
we stayed at the baan soontree for 4 nights during the month of march -- which, unbeknownst to us, was the worst possible time of year to visit chiang rai. it is burning season and the air is thick with smoke. the baan soontree provided a very pleasant refuge; it is a resort hotel with lots of lovely foliage. the cabins are located in a u shape around a pleasant pool. we spent most of our time in or by the pool, meeting fellow travellers from around the world, exchanging experiences and travel tips. the breakfast is adequate, not great although there is always fresh fruit. our room was lovely, quiet and comfortable with a rain shower in the bathroom. the staff were friendly and helpful - facilitating bicycles and a rented motor bike. the city centre is about 20 minutes walk from the hotel, 7 or so minutes by bicycle. all in all we felt that the baan soontree was the best part of our visit to chiang rai! we were not at all impressed by the city itself and, as already stated, the air was horrible.

Great family hotel, great local, and cozy rooms”
We enjoyed our stay at the Baan Soontree Hotel so much that we extended our stay two nights. The room was clean and cozy with beautiful wooden floors and Lanna style architecture. The pool was beautiful, although small, it was great for our kids and us with it's kiddy pool connected to the larger pool. The breakfast was also well done and the girls at the front desk went out of their way to accommodate us. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Lovely stay here in lovely surrounds”
The pictures on internet don't really do it justice as it was much nicer then we expected. Room was really comfortable and well maintained in all areas. Loved the big 4 poster bed and the wood paneled walls. Staff were helpful and friendly and assisted us with all our requests. In a quiet location with tuk tuk ride to shopping and city centre 5-10 minutes away. Hotel staff called for us whenever we wanted to head out. 10 minute walk to 7/11, Tesco and small market near the temple to pick up supplies and have a chat to some of the locals along the way. Great stay for us, thanks Baan Soontree.

Loved our stay”
we really enjoyed our stay at the brand new baan soontree! the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to book travel plans for us. they even gave us a ride into town. the hotel is family run and they aim to please:) the room was large with nice new furnishings. there is a beautiful pool and relaxing courtyard area. each room has a private terrace. a large yummy breakfast was included in our room rate. we had to leave early on our last day so the staff woke up early to make sure we ate before catching our bus. if you are looking to do a trek in the area we recommend j's travel service (and simon the tour guide in particular).

lovely hotel, traditional thai style!!!”
we' ve got updaited in a upper flor room deluxe, which was very nice, confortable, there is one sitting area and the bedroom big room nice bathroom and clean. i would like to recomend for the breakfst more varitey of food and bread and some thai dishes too. the stuff in the reception is helpfull but they must be more informed about excursions and where to get thai massage and also where is near a place to have dinner. they promote only wich they are co-operate with. if you go out of the hotel in the main rood and turn left and walk a little you will find some nice local restaurants where the food is delicius. the night market is beautifull with nice and good quality of goods. you have to barg but it worth it. we have enjoy our stay at baan soontree hotel and we reccomended also too.

Fantastic hotel...a hidden jewel.”
what a find this place was! the hotel is almost new and given that fact and the season we almost had it to ourselves to enjoy.the pool is very nice as are the staff, who incidentally are of a christian bent. the location is off the beaten path from the centre of chiang rai but in honesty, chiang rai itself is a lousy place. being in a neighborhood away from the center was good but make sure you can get the taxi to find the hotel. we had a native thai speaker with us and this proved challenging... if you go to chiang rai this is the place to stay.

Beautiful hotel - very helpful staff!”
the hotel is located in a very quiet area. you can walk to the the center city in 30 min, walk to central plaza in 30 min or get the very helpful staff to call you a tuk-tuk. it's standard price 80 bath to go to the city, the mall or bus station. we enjoyed the beautiful rooms, the pool and the surroundings! i will stay there again next time i go to chiang rai!

Delightful oasis.”
We booked this as a mystery deal and were really pleased with our stay. The staff were helpful but unobtrusive, but special mention must be made od the breakfast woman whose friendly smile and freshly made meals made for a great start to the day. The room (family) was spacious, immaculate and very comfortable. The bathroom was big and great. The resort is set in a lovely garden behind a wall and in a residential area do it is very quiet. It took a bit of finding the first time but mainly because I haven't stayed on the eastern side of the highway before, and we have our own transport. There's a very inviting pool. The resort has bicycles for rent at 50 baht per day which would be great, as Chiang Rai is ideal for cycling, virtually flat throughout the city. The airport is a very easy run when the sad moment of departure arrives. In a nutshell. .. I highly recommend this place. My wife and I are both determined to stay again, and soon.

Helpful,friendly staff.Tranquil bungalows.”
this was our second stay here as we both very much enjoyed this accommodation.we brought another couple with us and they also thoroughly enjoyed their stay here at baan soontree. we would all come back again and would definitely recommend to others.my only negative comment would be it's proximity to chiang rai city...but it's only a tuk tuk ride away.

Beautiful huts in a quiet location”
Our stay at this hotel was very relaxing. It's about a 15 minute walk from the city center so it's nice and quite. The rooms are extremely comfortable and set in traditional looking Thai huts. They surround a small garden and salt-water pool. Our stay here was so great we stayed here a second time when we returned to Chiang Rai.

Great Value for the Money”
We really got a bargain here. The hotel was handsomely priced and rooms were all very clean with a rustic feel without all the bugs. The cabins were nicely furnished, the staff were very helpful and overall a pleasant stay in Chiang Rai which is our favorite place in Thailand because of the pace of the city, culture, activities, people, and of course food.

Excellent resort with nice location”
We spent our Chiang rai visit here for 2 nights and it was absolutely great stay! The staffs were kind and helpful. Hotel's decoration impressed me and my girlfriend a lot! It is built in a traditional thai style with cool garden and swimming pool. The location is good as well..not far from the heart of the city and close to convenient store like 7-11 or Tesco Lotus Express. You can take a bicycle from the hotel to roam around the place nearby..free of charge! Also, at the reception, staffs can help you about car rental as well. One thing that my girlfriend and I appreciated was breakfast, the first day,the made a northern thai food and it was so awesome!! Anyway, it was only for the first day though.
