Paradise on earth”
This place exceeded our expectations before the trip.It is the highlight of our trip in Viet Nam.We come from a big city ,modern but very hustling and bustling as all big cities all over the world. We takes holidays every year and we always want to look for beautiful destinations to stay with the nature for relaxation . We found a Bungalow on Nam Cat island , an isolated island among hundreds of islands locating in the middle of Lan ha Bay. In order to get there ,you need to take a small local boat from Cat Ba town for 30 minutes. On the way to get there ,you will pass by hundreds of small islands with sandy beaches , it is amazing scenery .Upon arrival , we were so impressed by the surroundings of this island.It looks even much more beautiful than the pictures on the website .There are no local people living here , no buses, no cars, because it is a small island .That is what we looked for because we wanted to get out from the busy life for few days to stay in a peaceful and quite place .You cant find any other places in Viet Nam more beautiful and tranquil here . Only few staff can speak English here , so do not expect everyone can communicate with you because this is a remote island, high educated people will never work here with low payment and far from family.You should also not expect luxury room like hotels or resorts in cities, because this is a Bungalow ,they set up with the basic style .We still enjoy our room so much because we paid money for stunning view from the room, not for hotel rooms in cities. We highly recommend this bungalow as the most beautiful place in Viet nam. We will come back as soon as possible.

Amazing place”
I brought my family and two friends' families to stay in at Cat Ba Sandy Beach resort last summer when our kids had school vacation and they wanted to go to beach. Despite visiting Cat Ba several times, but they enjoyed the place a lot. Our bungalows are at the beach, the rooms are comfortable, It was not big, but okay for us, Scenery is beautiful, the beach is secluded and really peaceful. The service is quite limited but staff is friendly and helpful. Excursion to nearby fishing village and the jungle were interesting, my kids liked biking and kayaking a lot. We enjoyed a local-styled BBQ dinner with lots of wine and whiskey. Breakfast is good with many local dishes. We will be back next summer and will recommend this place to other

I can't believe the poor reviews of this place. Our bungalow was very nice and clean. Our guide Mr Thanh was helpful and took care of us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cat Ba Sandy Beach Resort.The secluded beach is beautiful, the food at the restaurant was sensational and the service was impeceable. This place was paradise to us and we'd definately stay again - in fact next time we would totally by pass the touristy Halong junkets and catch the hydrofoil direct to Cat Ba to maximise our time on the island and at the resort. Highly recommend this place to others!

Lovely location for laid-back travellers!”
We loved our week's stay at Cat Ba Sandy Beach Resort on Nam Cat island!! Our type of place - peaceful, well looked after by a friendly staff, great atmosphere day and night, especially around the campfire. We were able to join into a variety of tours and had a wonderful time exploring both the bay, the islands, and Cat Ba town, retreating back to the wonderful peace and quiet and delicious food at Nam Cat! Simple accommodation, but great value for money.

What a wonderful experience to get away”
We took a trip for our honeymoon .After searching a lot of hotels and resorts in towns and cities , my wife and I decided to find an isolated island to get away from bustling life in cities.WE came across to find a Bungalow on Nam Cat island , locating in the middle of Lan ha Bay .We read some bad reviews complaining about rooms basic, not luxury as resorts or hotels but that was not what we were looking for because we have traveled to many countries and stayed hundreds of hotel and resorts already but all of them locate in towns and cities. So we wanted to look for a great experience to stay with the nature and get away from cities. Oh my god , we could not believe in my own eyes when we arrived at this bungalow on an isolated island, no local people living.It is like a paradise with a sandy beach in front of your room, with a great bay view.It is very peaceful and quite ,from where you can kayak to discover by your own the tranquil Lan ha Bay .After kayaking foe few hours ,we passed by a small island with a beach also ,no one living .We did swimming and sunbathing on the beach ,it was a great and romantic moment because no one there bothering you. It is absolutely an unforgetable experience for us. Our room is basic because this is bungalow , not like hotels but we enjoy it very much .The room met our expectation of bungalow experience ,if not I had stayed in hotels in Hanoi ,more luxury and comfortable. You should not expect to have many choices of food here because this is small and isolated island ,no local people living .There only one small restaurant serving tourists ,so if you want to discover many kinds of food ,you need to stay in tourist cities . I like the evening so much because I have never experience such a quite and peaceful night like that ,you can here no sound, noise because there are no cars, buses, motorbikes... I definitely recommend for all travelers who are looking for staying with nature

Amazing location!”
I stayed 3 nights and four days in Cat Ba sandy beach resort. It's the perfect place to escape from the noise and pollution of Vietnam cities ' traffic. The location is absolutely amazing and staff is very helpful and nice. I think that it's bit overpriced for what the structure offers. It costed me $65 per night which is very expensive for what usually you pay in Vietnam. The owner of the place should definitely improve the food and the quantity of it. As an example the breakfast was pretty poor and at dinner buffet if the food finishes that's it!! As I said perfect place to find peace and staff very helpful

Lovely hotel and service with a smile”
i was a bit worried when we got to cat ba island and was told i had to catch a boat to the resort, and when we got there was worried there was no way off. but once meet the staff and saw our beautiful bungalow, without a/c (did have fan ) i was hooked. it was the most tranquil place i've been too. the staff were there to help and ensure you stay as comfortable as possible. the have day trips you can go on around ha long bay and over to cat ba island or you can just kayak around the bay yourself. the only disapointment was the amount of rubbish floating around in the water.

Great place to relax”
We did stay 2 nights in Catba Sandy Beach Resort, that was great time for us. Built on isolating island, there are no shops, bars or markets. The small restaurant and bar where staffs served us meals or drinking. Plenty of wooden bungalows built along white sandy beach, we all the time could sea mountain and sea from very large window. And we loved reading book in balcony and played football with other passengers on the beach or did kayaking around the island (because it’s small enough to kayak around 2 hours). We joined Halong Imperial Cruise before going to bungalow. But you can get there by another way. Taking bus from Hanoi to Haiphong by Hoang Long bus then getting on speech boat drive to Catba Town. And spending half an hour from Beo Harbor to Bungalow by local boat. Actually we did not take that way but we cam back Hanoi through Catba and Haphong. We highly recommend this place and will come back here in near future.

sensational location”
probably only 2 1/2 to 3 stars, magnificent location, plumbing a bit dodgy, still under construction, small resort on the beach, about 20 guests, great interaction with fellow travellers, outdoor dining, great resort meals cooked on open bbq, easy access to halong bay, free canoes, half hour (200,000 dong) boat ride from cat ba island. unless you insist on 5 stars, you will love this little place.

we didn't want to stay in cat ba...too noisey. found sandy beach resort online. looked lovely. it's not a resort, in that there is no pool, and really only a hand full of bungalows. they are in the process of building a few more. the rooms are wood, clean and very nice. quiet and peaceful. if you want to go to town, the staff can arrange a basket boat to take you. the staff can also arrange tours. we arranged our own with slopony (rock climbing) in cat ba. the breakfast is good. dinner is really good and lots of it (good for my teenage sons). i highly recommend this lovely place and would stay here again.

Nice slightly rustic resort”
resort may not be the perfect word for this place if you think of resorts as pristine hotel rooms with 24 hour see ice and spas but if you are more into a simple room with a shower, toilet and mosquito net over the bed than look no further. this is a nice family run bungalow hotel with great food in the pixturesque setting of cat ba. it's quit, much more peaceful than cat ba town. id recommend booking a tour that includes a stay here because getting to/from can be difficult (though definitely not impossible).

We loved our stay. The location was beautiful. We were given a free upgrade to a beachfront room because it was off season. The weather was chilly and the outdoor shower was pretty frigid. The provided heat lamp didn't quite give enough warmth, but I am sure that doesn't matter much most of the year. It is within walking distance from town and they give you several vouchers such as free drinks and kayak rental. If I were to return to Cat Ba I would definitely stay there again! It is a great hotel with a gorgeous view!

Quiet, alone amonst the mystical islands”
Nam Cat island is a great place to be away from the honking mess of the surrounding cities of Hai Phong and Ha Long, as well as Cat Ba itself which has become a tourist trap... the problem is it took us a bit of haggling and a lot of buses and boats to get there! We came directly from Hue by night bus to Hanoi and that morning caught a bus-smaller bus-ferry-even smaller bus to Cat Ba harbour (PS, the ferry wasn't the hydrofoil, but we still made it!) Next, in Cat Ba, we had to hire a small mini van to take us the extra 2 km to Bit Bao (something like that... it only costs 10 000 dong by cycle, but with tet "new year" we were only able to get a car for after hard barganing). From there, it was one of the oval basket boats to Nam Cat island: Sandy Beach resort! The prise of the boat should be there and back, but we where too tired by then to care. The resort itself is beautiful and the boat ride there worthy of a picturesct tour. The beds are a little hard, and at this time of year, it is freezing at night! But I still had a swim... I had too.

Missed the mark”
Cat Ba Sandy Beach Resort is a lovely location and could be a wonderful destination spot. They fell short on several levels - most of which I believe could easily be fixed. It is set up for a one night stay - which I recommend. More than that is too long. Pros - We liked the staff - they were very friendly and tried to help. Although the water wasn't completely clear we enjoyed our swim. Lying on our back and looking up into the cliffs was spectacular. The boat ride to the resort was also enjoyable. A few cons - 1. Room description is not accurate. We had the deluxe room which seemed much smaller than the one in the photograph, although I am sure it is the same room. We did not have a hair dryer or bathrobe. 2. Amenities - Most places in Vietnam that we have stayed in have 2 bottles of complimentary water. Since you are "stuck" at the resort and have to buy everything, a couple of complimentary waters would of been appreciated. 3. Things to do - When we arrived the kayaks looked really bad and I wasn't too interested in using one. When we finally decided to use the kayaks they were all gone for cleaning. 4. Meals - The meals were ok. We were there more two nights and my daughter and boyfriend three. Food was the same for all nights. On our last night there the staff cooked a meal for us that was different than previous nights dinner which was greatly appreciated. 5. Things to do - We knew that our time there would be quiet. We brought our books and planned on resting on the beach, reading and relaxing. Unfortunately all the chairs are very hard, even the lounge chairs have no cushions, so sitting more than a half hour or so was uncomfortable. 6. Added costs - although all the added costs were reasonable it felt like they weren't up front about them. I wish they had listed on their web page the additional fees for the meals ($10) and boat travel ($5).

Great relax”
the setting is ideal, only hotel on this cat nam island. the views were incredible from our deck. the bungalows are simple, but clean, and romantic. we used the kayaks for free to explore other islands and beaches. the food was a feast with course after course being served. we loved it. Staff there very helpful and care all of us during tim stayed. Special our tour guide Mr Ten. Be sure to contact the hotel in advance, so they can have a reasonably priced boat, to meet you at the main pier to boat you directly to hotel.

Nice resort with a spectacular view and scenery.”
We had a great time at Nam Cat Island. The resort was nice, the location great, the staff was friendly and the food was fine as well. But the organization didn't inform us upfront about bringing enough cash to the Island, so we didn't brought enough to cash to pay for 4 nights, food and drinks. Paying with a credit card wasn't possible and therefore we had to go to Cat Ba Island to a shady place to pay.

Good place but expensive though”
The charge did not include transportation fees from Cat Ba to Nam Cat island. I was charged 600k vnd for 2 ways boat from cai Beo station to Nam Cat, not mentioned taxi Cat Ba island. Agoda said it was provided and contact the property for more information but they did not inform me in advance. Other than that, it was a good place to enjoy. Especially you have your private beach with less people during the crowded summer. Kayaks are free, which is an added value. Dinner and breakfast buffet sucks. You better order your own food for valuable dinner.

Beautiful location but overpriced ”
these cabanas are on nam cat, a very small island which is about 20 minutes via a small motor boat from cat ba town. the location is stunning. all cabanas have views of the bay with the quintessential halong bay rock formations rising from the waters. that is the best thing i could say about this place. the staff was also very nice and friendly, and willing to cater to any requests quickly. however, as soon as you arrive, it becomes apparent that there is little that you can request-- outside of some drinks and crackers, there is no food accept a set dinner that they cook for everyone staying on nam cat and charge about $8 per person. the dinner each night was a buffet of pork, chicken, and squid barbecue, rice, french fries and cabbage, tomatoes and cucumbers. it was alright, but not worth $8 (in vietnam that's a lot). the breakfast isn't very good-- 2 greasy eggs, toast, butter, jam packets, and coffee or tea. the cabanas are very rustic and the beds are very hard. it was, however, wonderful to hear the waves washing up on the shores as we fell asleep. that said, the first night, these pleasant sounds were mostly drowned out by the sound of the generator which runs all night. so, the second night, we requested to be moved to a cabana far from the generator. that proved to be a good solution-- we couldn't hear the generator at all the second night. another downside is that, although they can arrange to pick you up from and take you back to the harbor near cat ba town, they charge $15 one way for the trip, which seems quite expensive. it should be included in the price, given the basic cabanas and lack of other amenities on nam cat. all in all, we did enjoy our stay, but this is more because our number one priority was to enjoy cat ba from a more remote location and because we don't mind rustic accommodations. it was however just too expensive for what we got.
