I read some mixed reviews on this hotel, but was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is. Cat Ba downtown is a little like Myrtle Beach, honky tonk-ish. But this property was by far and away the best in the area, and secluded as well. Rooms, grounds, pool and staff were great. Food also good. Its not a 5 star hotel by world standards, but a 10 star compared to other hotels in Cat Ba. I paid $134 a night that included breakfast and dinner. Had a suite that was very nice. I stayed a month before at Intercontinental Nantrang for the same price. Much better place and beach, but this was really nice and by far the best in Cat Ba..... books your boat trip early (especially coming home). The boat fills up fast...

I had a fantastic stay at Cat Ba Island Resort and Spa during my second trip to Cat Ba. I first want to say that my girlfriend and I were overjoyed by how we were treated at this resort. Because she is Japanese and I am white, we often experienced rude racism and maltreatment in spite of neither of us being Vietnamese. Regardless, Catba Island Resort made me feel like a valued guest and looked over my relationship and respected my girlfriend and I. I can’t stress enough how much that meant to me. Furthermore, on top of the friendly treatment I received, I was very happy with how great the free breakfast was as well as the dishes I had for dinner at their restaurant. Rooms were very comfortable and I had a lovely view of the ocean. I also enjoyed the pool, although I was a little disappointed that the water slide was closed. However several areas of the were being renovated. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will come back here in the future. Thank you so much!

Arrived in Cat Ba town and was pleasantly surprised to see the Sea Pearl located right in the middle of the strip. We were greeted warmly by the staff and immediately shown to our room. By far the most beautiful room we booked in vietnam- breathtaking panoramic view of the bay 10 floors below. Room was pleasantly appointed and immaculate. Complimentary breakfast is served from the restaurant on the 11th floor- fantastic views. Tony and staff were very helpful. They helped us procure a motorbike at a fair rate and provided much insight on places to eat (avoid floating restaurants) and things to do. In hotel spa is also a terrific value and should not be missed. Highly recommended.

There's TONS of bargain accommodation in Cat Ba town, especially out of season (December was almost DESERTED!) but this place has the edge in terms of location. The tourist strip is a line of concrete buildings with shops and restaurants at street level, they're ok if you like that kinda thing but this place is a few hundred meters past the end of these on its own private headland. Delightful! I can't vouch for the dorm rooms though my fellow guests seemed happy enough, I had the one double en-suite. Downside was that it was a bit characterless and dated, and the tiled floor above could be a bit noisy at times. Upside was the huge window with dreamy island and junk boat view. Grew to love it. There are benches on 2 levels outside with decent food and drinks on offer. Was woken one morning at 6 by a hoard of Chinese tourists who have no qualms about noisily wandering onto private property at dawn! The owner is a genuinely lovely bloke with great English, he and his family made me feel very welcome, was chuffed to join the local blokes of all ages jovially watching the British footie! The staff are sweet and are trying to improve their pigeon English, good service too. I booked a boat trip via here and was delighted, characterful, great super friendly guides and amazing food, not at all the gaudy and lary cruises that (occasionally) haunt Ha Long bay. I have fond memories of Le Pont and hope you enjoy it too.

When we were deciding whether to go to Ha Long or Cat Ba or do a cruise and stay on a boat, we saw a special deal for a sea view room at this hotel and decided to take it for four nights. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our whole trip. The view was magnificent and the room had everything we needed for us to be comfortable (though a kettle would have been good - the electrics weren't brilliant and we had to buy another adaptor to charge our phones) but these are minor details. The staff were fantastic and went out of their way to be friendly, helpful and informative., especially the manager (Keith?) who always went beyond the call of duty to ensure everything went smoothly for his guests. The whole of Cat Ba had a relaxed friendly vibe - no hassling to buy anything- so we were able to just chill. The beach and Cannon Fort with its magnificent views are all walking distance - if you feel like the exercise and the tours offered by the hotel are reasonably priced and great value for money. We did a full day trip on a boat to Lan Ha and Ha Long bays, including stops for swimming/snorkelling, lunch, kayaking and a stop at Monkey Island where you could do a climb or just chill on the beach. This was one of the highlights. But I think the other tours to the national park etc. were equally good value. I could have stayed here for much longer and really enjoyed our time here. The only drawback is that it was such a central location opposite the main harbour and town square, that if there was a festival or event happening ( which we were privileged to have been around for) then it can get very noisy if you wanted to get to sleep before the celebrations were over. Overall, we couldn't recommend this place more highly.

We had a great stay here; the room was very tastefully decorated, very clean, and had a brilliant view of the lake. The receptionist was very helpful, and could arrange all sorts of transport and tours (though we didn't avail of this service). It's a max 10 minute walk from the main bustle of the town (centred on the Port), which we liked, as it made the location more quiet and serene. We stayed in a few different hotels in Cat Ba, the others being in the busier part of town, and this hotel was the nicest of them all, at about half the price. Breakfast was tasty, though the setup was a big rigid in my opinion; no buffet, rather guests choose one food item and one drink item from a menu of options; would be better if the drinks at least were freely available (on-tap, so to speak). But that small issue aside, this is a very nice hotel I can strongly recommend.

I stayed in a mixed dorm for two nights. Clean, comfortable beds, shower and toilet in dorm. The free breakfast was great! Fresh fruit, coffee, juice, and choice of pancakes (with chocolate, banana, or pineapple), pho, banh mi, cereal, toast and eggs, and probably other options I’m forgetting. The hotel is close to the main road, but far enough away to be quiet at night. Also very close to Cannon Fort (a great look out spot!). I will definitely stay here again if I’m ever in Cat Ba! :)

This hotel is beautifully situated right on the edge of town with uninterrupted views across the bay. We stayed in a suite on the sixth floor, which was amazing. The room was spacious and comfortable but what made it really special were the floor to ceiling windows and huge balcony-definately worth the extra money. The view of the bay and town was beautiful, both in the sunshine and all lit up at night. Breakfast was good. The bar/coffee shop outside was a lovely place for a drink in the evening-especially if you like listening to karoake. (Cat Ba seems to be the karoake capital of Vietnam). The staff were lovely and friendly, and very helpful. There are lots of good places to eat nearby and the beach is only a few minutes walk away.

I believe this is one of the best hotels in Cat Ba. The staffs were amazingly friendly and they had helped us a lot. We had some meals in the hotel, the price was 150,000 VND per person.The food was great and the chefs were so nice. The rooms were clean and nice. If there is one thing I must complaint then it would be the wifi connection was a little bit weak, rather than that it was totally fine. If we had the chance to come back again, Catba Palace would definitely be our choice.

AC is absolutely superfluous. Just a waste of energy and money. Anyone who wants fresh air can open the windows

Large modern room, two queen beds, with great view of Cat Ba town bay. The location couldn't better. This was in January slow season, so the room rate was excellent. I couldn't ask for more.

We just love Cat ba island and especially this hotel. I supposed to spend only 2 nights there but then i spent one more. The rooms and beds are stunning new, the staff girl was so friendly and she can speak a perfect english (she's beutiful too :D). i'm pretty harsh with reviews but I gave 10 to hailong! definitely recommended!

This review is about the tours operating from the hotel, not the hotel itself. Even if you stay at any other hotel, we strongly recommend the services of Tony and Geoffrey, a vietnamese/french team offering what you most probably will not get from traditional vietnamese operators (poor diversity, low flexibility) or the better known other office tourist information (more expensive). They will take you to off-the-beaten-track places, by boat in Halong/Lan Ha Bay or Cat Ba beautiful inland remote areas. We will not forget the sympathy and efficiency of that team, able to organise (and improvise) tailor-made tours if you ask them to, at very good value for money. It was the difference between people just trying to make money out of the tours and guys doing their best to make you really enjoy your stay at one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Sunset Hotel is perfectly located close to good restaurants and the rooms with seaview and balcony are the best value i have got in Vietnam. Staff was very helpfull and nice.

The view from our room was lovely, and the shower was hot, if a little too high pressure. Staff speak good English and are happy to help. Each floor has its own router but Wi-Fi was still intermittent. Breakfast choices (a la carte) were limited but tasty. The hotel is on the main seafront drag in Cat Ba town and as such is close to bars, restaurants, tour operators and everything else on offer

Our stay at Thao Minh New Star was just what we wanted. A decent hotel at a reasonable price. The staff are polite and friendly and very helpful. The room was modern and well maintained, with wi-fi and cable TV (including some English channels). There was always hot water and the rooms were made up daily, usually accompanied by a nice plate of complimentary fruit. The locations if great. Lovely view of the harbour from our room and as it's right on the front strip in Cat Ba town, easy walking access to restaurants, transports, tour booking etc... The restaurant wasn't very good, but there are so many other places nearby to choose from that it really wasn't a problem. I'd happily stay here again. This time I was travelling with a friend, but I would happily choose this hotel when coming to Cat Ba with my family and children.

The staff were really friendly and helped us arrange tours around Ha Long Bay. The location is in the middle of town so within walking distance to everything, including the beach.

We booked this place and it more than exceeded our expectations. The room was huge. Had two king beds. We payed 20$ Canadian. It had a tv with western movies playing always. Very clean. Had a fridge stocked with water and beer. There was a a kettle, shoes for the bathroom, a balcony overlooking the water, quiet location. The owner was very nice! The included breakfast was great! You got to choose between a variety of menu items. Location is great, close to everything you would need!!!

The "deluxe" room I got was spacious, but that was just about it's only good attribute. The room was not well maintained. The room phone was not working and all lights except the bathroom light, entryway light, and bedside lamp not working or missing bulbs. The free wifi was only barely accessible from one corner of the room. The laundry service ruined a pair of pants by getting bleach on it. The free breakfast was pretty good, but I would probably stay elsewhere if going back to Cat Ba.

The hotel is nicly situated in the center of cat ba. Next to the harbour and many restaurants. We didnt get towels until we asked. They were quitw dirty and also some hair on the bed sheets. There was no blanket. The room and bathroom were quite small. Very bad water pressure! Breakfast looked okay, but very basic. The staff was very friendly but unfortunatly their English was quite bad. The Hotel is family run so sometimes the lights are off, they sleep/eat in the lobby. The aircon and the van worked well. As the price was very cheap I think I would recommend it amyways.

We had a perfect stay at Cat Ba Central Homestay. Our host made sure we were taken care of at all times. He also helped arrange a taxi to take us around all day, for a fair price. We had laundry done as well and it was finished quickly. His wife cooks breakfast every morning and made a huge, delicious Vietnamese dinner for all the guests one night. The room was clean and large, and the street was quiet for sleeping. We were within walking distance of everything we wanted to see in Cat Ba. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting the island!

Awesome place to stay for a few nights in Cat Ba. A couple minutes from it’s 3 main beaches by scooter. Comes with a great western breakfast every morning and the owner is very nice and friendly and helpful. Only downfall was the bed wasn’t the best as far as comfort goes and there was construction next door that woke us up early every morning but that wasn’t terrible because it got us up earlier to enjoy our stay and explore the island

Great place to stay. Really friendly staff that cannot do enough to please. Great breakfast included too. The location is excellent, only a moments walk from the main street food/beer streets in the center of Cat Ba. Rooms are large and clean and decorated to a good standard. Tour is so nice. A must stay when in Cat Ba.

had a great stay here - very good location right in the middle of cat ba town. close to everything. the staff in the reception spoke ok english and was very keen on helping and explaining things. breakfast buffet was ok - nothing special but better than many other asian hotels.

Good 3-star hotel for the price. Staff is friendly. Room is tidy, large bathroom with a bathtub. Good breakfast on a roof terrace. Conveniet location in a town centre near a pier where ships from Haiphong arrive.

Value for money: Less than USD10 a night in low season. Location: Right in the middle of Cat Ba town on the main street, 20min walk to Cannon Fort, 10min to Cat Co beach. Cleanliness: Both room and bathroom are clean. Staff: Friendly and helpful. Facilities: Basic, but has everything as stated. No problem for video call. Awesome view to Cat Ba island. No water filler, common thing in Vietnam though. You have to buy. Lovely restaurant with lovely staffs.

We spend 7 nights there. The room with balcony we had was clean, spacious and with beautiful view. The localisation is perfect, close to the beach and just enough away of the busy part of town. We took a tour with them (along bay) and was also good. Sure is not a 5 stars hotel, but very good value for money.
