Helpful Staff, Good Location”

Good hostel. The staff are really friendly and helpful and have exceptional English. The hostel looks over the bay and is a short walk to some really good nearby restaurants. We booked the Eco Boat tour around Ha Long Bay through the hostel. It was really cheap the the tour was great - Definite must do! Rooms are big and clean, shared bathroom facilities are clean as well. Breakfasts are in the in the hotel next door and it is a good buffet. Would stay here again and would recommend if you are staying a couple of days on Cat Ba island.

Great hostel in Cat Ba”

Great place to stay. Really friendly staff that cannot do enough to please. Great breakfast included too. The location is excellent, only a moments walk from the main street food/beer streets in the center of Cat Ba. Rooms are large and clean and decorated to a good standard. Tour is so nice. A must stay when in Cat Ba.

Nice stay ”

Even if cat ba city is very touristy and as a result not that beautiful in my opinion, the hostel is a nice place to stay. Simple but everything you need. Comfortable beds and James and his sun at the reception who are always extremely friendly and helpful.

Top staff”

Extremely nice staff and very helpful. Though common areas are unexploited and aren’t welcoming to meet other travellers. Location is a +++, quality of mattresses too (finally a soft mattress), showers a bit old and dirty (but hot water at least!!!) For boat tours, I recommend Cat Ba Bay 90 boats.

The hostel is CLEAN (and that's not common in Cat Ba), cozy and in a good position. The staff tho is quite awful. They don't help you with anything, they barely speak English and they're not very nice. Also, they start cleaning the rooms as soon as someone checks out, even at 6.30 am, with 0 respect for people sleeping, shouting on their walkie talkie and slamming doors. Also, internet doesn't get to the 3rd floor and they don't turn on the a/c in the common area (the only one where internet works properly). So you have to choose a/c or internet.

Great breakfast but”

I stayed for two nights at cat ba central hostel. The check in was very nice and welcoming so at first I had a very good impression of the place. Breakfast is very good and plenty, beds are comfy and seem clean, AC is working pretty well. The shared bathrooms, however, are a disaster. It seemed they weren't cleaned for 2 days according to the smell and the bins next to the toilets were not even once emptied within the two days. I wouldn't recommend eating there apart from breakfast as it is overpriced, low quality and some of the waiters dont understand English at all.

It costs us about 10$ /person/night to stay there, we were in a supposedly 32beds dorm, but then a group of 5 arrived. they moved the sofa (which is located right by the door, for everyone to use) and took the seat and back pillows to try and make an additional bed. they also had a mattress reserved for, i guess, overbooking purposes. the group of five ended up sleeping right by the door (its a double door, and half of it was blocked by one of the mattresses). I think it's a really crappy way of handling it. Also, two (sometimes more) of the staff just hung out in the room, right on the "sofa leftover" that was right by my bed. They were talking and playing music loudly enough that we could hear it. It was extremely annoying and she was clearly not doing her job. However, I do have to say that the boy at the counter (there's one that stays seated by the counter to help everyone) was really there for everyone and genuinely seemed to want to help. Breakfast is a buffet from 7 to 9, it is quite good, watermelon juice is incredible, there are things like instant noodles (probabky the best thing), eggs(overcooked), sausages, omelette, bread, jam, coffee, etc. We enjoyed our breakfast overall. Toilets are smelly since you must throw the paper in a basket, which could be changed more often. Showers were clean, with hot water. One day it rained, and there was water all over the floor, employees had to clean it with towels and shovels. However, the lockers (located under the beds) aren't directly on the floor so our stuff remained dry. Lockers are big, although only one door opens, which is a bit annoying. Would stay there again considering the general price in CatBa. (If you have to travel in and out of CatBa, Book with CatBa express. They are sooooooo good. Just don't ever book an open bus with them ✌ )

Not the worst stay, definitely not the best”

Cat Ba is clearly just a place to make money from tourists, this hostel is no exception. The staff was very unfriendly in every encounter. The bathrooms smell terrible as other say. But the bed and room of the 6 dorm was clean and good A/C so at least a good night's rest. The location was really good for walking to Oasis bar for food and drinks and the tour in the morning. So pros and cons.

Nice place to stay!”

I've been here for 4 days and 3 nights. I slept in the 14 bed dorm. The beds are good, the rooms are quiet big and the bathrooms are clean. The wifi doesn't work in the room but it works in the hallway. If you want any information, just ask James. I can recommend the eco tour: it's around 16$ and you go kayaking, swimming and visit the Monkey Island. Don't visit the hospital cave on the Island, it's dissapointing! The views on top of the cannon fort are beautiful!

Don't go gien ngoc!”

Because we booked a private room at cat Ba hostel, that room appareantly is in Gien Ngochotel next to the hostel. Not a reccomendation: staff is always moody/ not looking friendly, bathrooms are very poor.

Great value for the price”

So glad we did. The staff were beyond polite, spoke good English and always around to assist. They let us keep the room for the same agoda price till we needed to leave. They cleaned it immaculately everyday and the bed was so comfortable. It was few minute walking distance to everything. Proper hot shower and nice bathroom. Great value for the price we paid.

Crowded ”

I paid $6.59 Canadian dollar for first night I thought there will be 8bed dorm max I got there and i was with some 30bed dorm room! :s I wasn't too impressed! It was crowded, messy and the staff is not keen on letting anyone use the kitchen! The view is great beds are comfertabel but I needed a space to feel at home and this place feels too much of a hotel / restaurant to me! The same night i walked down to find another hostel more chill And I found Catba hostel for only 50 000 dong just 5min away ! I liked it way better than here!

Great place to arrange everything Cat Ba”

The beds are comfortable and the restaurant downstairs in the hall prepares tasty meals. Daily tour Lan Ha bay is so nice with many activities: kayaking, swimming, trekking monkey island... Staff excellent. Brill value for money. Perfect location. Everything you need

Good value”

Overall, it was OK, there are a lot cheaper hostel nearby, but with you can't go wrong staying here, nice WiFi, all day ac and breakfast. The receptionist Kong is very helpful, excellent English and superb service.

Absolutely great, one of the best hostels I've stayed at. Very clean, I think they do beds every day. Breakfast included. Stuff is super nice and friendly. Locan is fantastic. Definitely recommend it!

Clean hostel ”

As good a hostel you’ll find, nice breakfast in the morning too. Only thing that was missing for me personally was an atmosphere in the evening (could put up drinks promotions or entertainment).

dorms quite big, but clean, have lockers, towels, air conditioning... Everythin you need. Staff is the best part of this place, helpful, friendly and their offered tour to islands is really good value. Plus breakfast!

Change the staff”

the hostel in general was good, a bit expensive tours, but I booked in another hostel. But the staff should be better. When I came they didn't have my reservation, even it was paid. OK, not staff's fault, but then I had a feeling like they don't want me there. I didn't get voucher for breakfast, for my second day like others, I had to ask...They made my bed and took the key from locker before my checkout...when I asked the guy about the trip with trekking+cruise, he told me that I shouldn't go there, I can rent motorbike and go on my own, but I wanted trekking and also cruise, because the weather wasn't so.nice to spend all day on the boat...I found it weird behavior

Love this hostel. Clean, friendly, good fun, comfortable. Great dorm with so very very helpful staff. Free breakfast. No complaints.

Cheap, buffet breakfast (warning, if there are few people, they just offer one of the dishes instead of all, but it’s a big plate and they still give you bread, watermelon, and crepe pancakes- plenty of food), extremely comfy bed, great air con, awesome hot shower, towel included with bed! At the end of the main strip, so a bit quieter than other places, but 2-3 minute walk to Central strip. Loved staying here! Found it a great value for the money!!
