Traveling to South Korea? Find Gangneung-si hotels

The host I met, Jina unnie is super friendly, gave information about travelling in Gangneung. And breakfast prepared by her was super great! Like the environment where the guests have breakfast together and morning talk. Would like to come back for a longer stay in future. Location not too far from the traditional market. Noted that Agoda did not indicate the check in and check out time which is supposed to be 4pm and 11am respectively.

I have had the pleasure of staying at the Capsule Inn twice now (once in the winter and this last time at the height of summer). Both times I had a great experience staying there! As a solo traveler, it's always difficult to find lodgings that are a good value for money. Capsule Inn is located just off the beach - I could walk about 20 yards and be on the sand! There are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants in the area as well. I found the sleeping quarters to be clean and airy, with a fun beachy theme, well-heated in the winter and cooled in the summer. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, and while I speak a little Korean, it was helpful to be able to communicate in English about some more complicated questions. I will definitely be staying at the Capsule Inn on my next trip to Gangneung!

I strongly recommend this homely guesthouse to everyone. While you don't get fancy, luxurious facilities as with hotels (but why do you even want those in a guesthouse), what you get in exchange is a homely, warm and fuzzy feeling when you move into a guesthouse that has all the facilities you need. The wooden concept makes it even more cozy and comfortable to stay in. The place is constantly clean. The toilets are dry and necessary toiletries are readily provided. What is even more recommendable is the guesthouse's owner! My friend and I (two girls from Singapore) came here without much prior planning. He picked us up at the terminal and even gave us a short tour around Gangneung. He talked to us, smiling warmly and made us feel ever so welcomed to a foreign place. He knew of our lack of plans, sat down and planned with us for more than an hour. He even did all the reservations for us (those we couldn't have done by ourselves because the website was all in Korea). He was so patient and sweet to us that I am still so so thankful for. He even called us at the end of one day, worrying that we were still not back yet. He made sure all of us are safely back in the dormitory. He even inquired a foreign guy's safety and asked us to look out for him when he was back. We had a rooftop BBQ on our first day here when we didn't know where to head to for dinner. And as with all homemade BBQ are, the dishes were succulent and tasted like an authentic Korean home-fare meal. More importantly, it was a no frills dining session where you eat over beer and soju and make new friends. They even treated us to potato jeon (pancake) and makgeolli (rice wine) after dinner. So we just sat with the sea breeze blowing over us and talked. Whenever we were free in the room, the owner would brew some tea and offer it to us! Did I mention the tea he brews was so fragrant?! Made a last minute decision to stay in Donghae for a night. This was the first place we found. Great decision. Loved hanging out at the bar in the evening and taking in the chill surfer vibes. Then waking up to fresh beach air on the patio the next morning was tops.

강릉역에서 가깝고, 맛집과 월화거리 ,중앙시장 모두 걸어서 5분거리여서 좋았습니다! 기차시간때문에 밤11시인 매우 늦은 시간에 입실하게 됐는데, 사장님께서 너무 친절하게 입실을 도와주셔서 감사했어요! 방 상태도 깔끔하고 정리정돈이 잘 되어있었습니다. 무엇보다 저녁시간 파티를 꼭 해보셨으면 좋겠어요^^! 사장님과 좋은 사람들을 많이 만날 수 있거든요! 너무 좋아서 2박이나 했습니다! 다음에 강릉에 오면 다시 재방문할 의사 100%입니다! 강릉에 방문하신 여행객분들 모두 강릉 게스트하우스 중앙점에 방문하셔서 좋은 추억 가지고 가셨으면 하는 바람에 후기 작성해요^_^ ———————————————— It was close to Gangneung Station, and the restaurant, Wolhwa Street, and Jungang Market were all nice because it was a five-minute walk away! I came to the office very late at 11 p.m. because of the train time, but I was thankful that the host was so kind to help me! The room was neat and tidy. Most of all, I really want you to have dinner party. I can meet many good people with the host! I loved it so much that I spent two nights! I'm 100% willing to visit again when I come to Gangneung next time! I want all the tourists who visited Gangneung to visit the guest house in Gangneung and have good memories, so I'm writing a review^_

I went to Gangneung for figure skating competition, at Gangneung Ice arena. from Gangneung intercity bus terminal, you can take taxi, it costs around 8000 won. from guesthouse to Gangneung Ice arena (Olympic Park) , if by taxi, it will cost around 6500 won. Anmok beach is at coffee street, so there are many coffee or cafe shops there , and it opens until late. There is curfew, the guesthouse close the door from midnight until around 4.30 AM. and you can stay at lobby until midnight. I stay in 6 bed dorm, the room is small compare to another bigger dorm (cant remember how many beds). Bathroom is share and separate just by curtains (but it is clean and not crowded), so if you are serious with bathroom or need privacy, I am not recommend this guest house. The staff is very friendly, not good in english but she try to help and talk with me. She provided small towel and 1 bottle of water everyday. Breakfast is quite nice, staff will made waffle for you , you can have as many as you can. and there are coffee, tea, conflake with milk, some fruits. Coffee and tea are available for free all day in the lobby. And they sell drinks also.

- Clean guesthouse - Quiet and calm surroundings - Near from jeongdongjin station. At the time I arrived in Jeongdongjin station, I didn't have the exact direction to get to the guesthouse. I just asked a station officer where the guesthouse is and then she kindly told me the location. You just have to exit the station main building and then you will see a small road across the station. Cross the road in front of the station, and go straight walking in that small road across the station. In the end of the small road, you will find a bigger road and just turn left. You will see CU convenient store and a bus stop (If you want to go to Gangneung bus terminal, you can take the bus from this bus stop). Keep walking for a little bit and you will see the guesthouse.

We got a good deal because we visited during low season winter. There are bunch of motels along the beaches area which is very popular in warm seasons. As it is located "out of the way" from downtown, one has to expect to walk a certain distance after dropping off the nearest bus stop. We were told by google map that several buses you can take e.g. 206 and 207 which brings you closer (for further details, please refer to google map) from Intercity bus terminal to the motel. Reverse direction, you have to walk towards the Kyungpo lake area to find a closest bus stop with 230 & 230-1 . Commuting took us around 0.5 hrs but it was a better choice than those at the downtown when we booked the accommodations for Dec. You can access to the famous Tofu Village easily in 15 mins walk. There are some food places near the colourful bridge next to Kyungpo beach. We enjoyed our stay overall.

The host of the guesthouse was very friendly, although her English was not that good, she will try her best to provide assistance, even invite me to have dinner with her family. The hostel was clean and tidy and with a good location that just needed 10~15 mins walking distance to the train station (P.S. the Gangneung Train Station is now under reconstruction).

Check in doesn't start until 4 pm which is amazingly late. They market themselves as a party hostel so those usually aren't the cleanest. Although there wasn't any particular problem with mold or smells, I was there for 3 nights and they never once cleaned the room or bathroom. There was a lot of paper and plastic trash around the room that me and some other guests cleaned up. There was also a pile of wet towels just sitting in the bathroom and little packets of body wash and shampoo everywhere. Would have been better had they just had a big shampoo container attached to the wall in the shower.

The location was a bit far from the central but located at beach, if you are a beach lover you would like it. The staffs helped me a lot when I stayed there which was really nice. The room was clean and tidy, more than just a guesthouse. If you come to 강릉, you have to stay here, I promise you could have very nice exepetiences !!

This hotel is a bit worn and older, but the staff keep it clean, and it is within walking distance of the new KTX station in Gangneung, so it's a good, cheap option if you have a train to catch. It's a bit far from everything else, but taxis are cheap and plentiful, so the location isn't terrible. Overall, it was what I expected for a cheap motel near a train station.

The staff was very kind. The hotel is located in the center of the Gangneung city, so accessibility is good. It takes 5minutes walk to go to the train station and 10minutes drive to Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium. Also, within 30minutes there are many scenic beaches, attraction and shopping mall. It was a nice trip because the hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and accessibility was good.

The person in charge is the most helpful and lovely woman. helped us to move or stuff and gave us advices about the area. rooms are clean and the bed is like sleeping in a cloud.

The owner Mr Soon is a nice and friendly guy, willing to provide all the information that we needed. The room was small but very clean. 5 mins to the Gangneung train station by Taxi. Most of the taxi driver may not know the location of the guesthouse , may need to call the owner to speak with the driver. Overall is good. ;) we love it!

We are a group of 3 travellers from malaysia and just checked out about 10minutes ago.Hoon is a really great host!he guided us to his guesthouse ,n replied our message really fast.he drove us to many attraction places in gangneung,and we even go to the Pyeongchang trout fishing festival together with him. The house is nice and satisfactory for 3 of us.We had a healthy breakfast in the guesthouse,and he even drove us to Gangneung Station when we are going back to Seoul.We had a really awesome and memorable journey in Gangneung ,thanks to Hoon.will definitely stay here again when we visit here again.Thank you Hoon oppa^_^

Stayed here for 4 nights in an Ocean Double. Definitely recommend the Ocean rooms which face the beach. Great to fall asleep with the sound of waves on the sand. Although if you’re a light sleeper the noises from fireworks on the beach and people walking down the street seems to go on until early hours. I didn’t find it a problem and the benefit of being right on the beach definitely outweighed that. Plenty of parking, good rooms and helpful staff. There isn’t any cafe/breakfast but there are lots of places around. Looks like they might be opening a cafe downstairs but it still looked under construction when I stayed here. Only 2 negatives I had whilst I was staying here which could be addressed by the hotel is the lights on the balcony are on 24/7. There is no switch to turn them off. Also, no shower screen. I’d prefer a shower cubicle rather than a bath in a hotel but having no shower screen made water go everywhere but I think that this is fairly normal in this situation in South Korea. Would recommend having a car as well as this place is a perfect base to go to Seoraksan and also I drove to the Goseong DMZ area which was interesting. I also drove to Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge (Wonjo) which was a couple of hours away but really worth it. I really annoyed my time at this hotel.

if you have budget limit than choose here. here is not 5 star luxury hotel. but enough comfortable for this price. enough clean room. enough good quality service. even 1st floor beverage banding machine is free for users.

Kind and polite Korean staff. Room is good and wide and more facilities such as hair dryer, bathtub, shower, toilet, TV, air condition, heater, refrigerator, sofa, bed , skincare, haircare, shampoo, soap. Price is very good for all service and facilities. Hotel was located on good point, near a bus stop shopping street, restaurant, coffee shop and convenience store.

After living here 3 years and traveling the country extensively, this was definitely the best experience I have had at a hotel in Korea! The hotel manager and his wife were very friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to provide us with a good holiday! Whenever we asked for help, they gave us more help than we expected. For example, we asked where a good restaurant was, and they actually brought us there. It was during the week, so perhaps it was a less busy time for the hotel. Also, even though we only booked for two people on Agoda, they gave us extra Korean style floor bedding for our third person. My friends and I were so impressed, we wrote the hotel manager and his wife a thank you note! If you are a foreigner who speaks enough Korean to have a very basic chat with a hotel manager, I highly suggest this hotel! They were incredibly kind and had great advice about restaurants and beaches. They genuinely cared to make sure we had a great trip and were so pleased/amused to speak Korean to foreigners. The only negative aspect about this hotel is that a taxi from Gangeung Bus Terminal cost 25,000 won, and it is on top of a hill (ten minute walk down to the beach). However, the location on the hill makes for a BEAUTIFUL view of the ocean and Jeongdongjin Beach area. And, we were able to catch a bus back to the terminal on the return trip to save money. I will definitely stay here again!

The hotel is very close to GangNeung KTX train station, also, it is one of the tallest building in the area, hence, it is very easy to locate the hotel. It is a very new and clean hotel with friendly staffs who can communicate in English. The room is spacious. I can oversee the Gangneung KTX station from my room.

This is a great little spot overlooking the sea. The sleeping mats are slightly thicker and softer than typical Korean floor mats. The rooftop was a wonderful, quiet spot to relax and chat. The room was spotlessly clean! It’s right on the beach, so you can use your own shower after coming in from the waves. And there is a little rinse spigot in the courtyard outside, so you can prevent tracking sand into your room. This was a superb place to rest.

Our 2 nights stay was nice and the room had nice wooden floors. Balconie with small table and chairs was nice to have breakfast or drinks at night. There is no restaurant in this hotel but there is a small kithchen so you can cook if you want or buy some instant noodles at the reception for a quick meal.

Last February 2011 my wife and i travelled to Gangneung City in South Korea to accompany our daughter who was selected to participate in the Dream Program in Pyeongchan sponsored by South Korea. We arrived at N hotel without incident even though it was in the middle of a blizzard. The N Hotel, located at 273 Okcheon-dong, was smack in the middle of Gangneung City within walking distance from the nearest mall, traditional korean market, and train station. The Hotel looks like a Korean Artwork from the outside with a zen-like feel. Checking in, we were warmly greeted by Mrs. Noh, the hotel's general manager and soon after by the Mr. Hong, the hotel owner. We were brought to our standard room (via elevator) on the 5th floor. It was everything the website reviews said physically with the all the amenities in larger hotels. Very nicely decorated room complete, comfortable and clean. Well appointed room with freebies you won't find anywhere else for a week or two of fun! What separates N Hotel with all the others are the staff in the hotel. During our stay we had an emergency during the storm where in our daughter got sick and we had to go to her hotel in Pyeongchang. Unfortunately, due to the storm, no taxis were available and the bus leaves later in the day. Upon learning of our predicament Mr. Hong volunteered to drive us to Pyeongchang at no cost to us! During the drive we were accompanied by Mrs. Noh and we got to know each other. We returned to N Hotel two days later and we were treated to a after hours cocktales (Korean rice wine, Korean rice cakes, kim pop and fried fish and oyster omelets) by our host Mr. Hong. On our last day Mr. Hong and Mrs. Noh brought us to an authentic Bean curd village restaurant (yummy!) the local coffee house and brought us to the Bus station to Icheon (waving to us until we can't see them anymore! Very touching. Our beautiful experience in Korea would not be the same if not for N Hotel! Thanks a lot N Hotel!

The bed was hard, it is a really old building with old rooms. It is placed between different love motels

Nice room, nice breakfast, nice service. All the staffs try their best to provide the best service and help to us. Hotel is near the central of city and food market. Also is a 25-minute walk from the bus terminal and KTX Gangneung station. Will stay here again when I come Gangneung next time.

We paid for a Deluxe, but got the standard which lead to no bathtub. It didn't matter because the restrooms were a bit out dated. I loved that it wasn't on the busy part of the boardwalk which made the walk across the beach awesome. The wifi was the best I've encountered in KOrea. The CU has everything you want and the hotel gave out floats for the beach. The street is a tad loud and you have to walk a bit to the food and bus stop, but would stay again except for the beds being quite hard which I'm still not use to.

This is a very new hotel but there weren’t any teething problems. It’s clean, well designed and most of all was staffed with people who really care about their guests. It’s the Winter Olympics plus the Korean New Year, so we couldn’t get a taxi to an event. The staff made sure we got to our destination.

It was expensive but advertised a Sauna but the Sauna was not operational which was extremely disappointing since the hotel was quite a distance from the Olympicss

Great room and a great host. Definitely a reasonable price for a great one bed room. The place is located right in the middle of the town, easier access to anywhere.
