Take a train, then go to main road on final stop and catch the bus to hellfire pass- 120 baht together for one oneway.
I have travelled to many parts of Thailand and I rate this as one of the nicest cities to visit. Lots to see, the Death Railway, amazing temples (and I have seen a lot), natioanl parks, waterfalls and a layed back night life.
underrated, undiscovered, unearthed gem of thailand which has so much to offer for many. be it adventurer, nature lover, explorer, cultural.
Please spare more time on the City. You need at least 4-5 Days more to visited half of the tourist spot.
Nice smaller city. Some nice restaurants. No hustle and bustle. I like the big trees and the shade they give.
Apart from going to Hellfire pass, riding the Thai Burma Railway for as long as you can is an experience.
A very quiet town with enough basic facilities, I use to stay in this town again if I want to go to erawan
Was there only short, but did visit Hellfre Pass and Death railway which are of great interest in view of the history of the 2nd world war
Very crowded city with tourists. Sites such as the "death bridge" and war cemetery are on my not miss list
We are a bit biased as this is the provincial city of where we lived in Thailand for many years! However since retiring back to the UK and coming back to visit trying to see it through tourist eyes we can say that yes folk are very friendly and helpful.
Around by the bridge there are resturants but every where closes between 5pm and 10pm. You should not try and cross the bridge at night.
Kan can be a fun weekend away from BKK every once in a while. There is enough to do here, both out in nature as well as in the various entertainment venues throughout this small city.
Stayed out of the centre overlooking the Kwai and this was a beautiful spot. I imagine that the main town can get rather hectic and would not be as relaxing.
The war cemetery was very well kept and a moving experience, especially for older people who can remeber that time and take time to look at some of the grave stones with individual details & messages.
There's lots to see related to the World War 2 experience in the area, but it is also within striking distance of Three pagodas Pass & the Myanmar border (when safe).
It is a big Thailand town 2 hours from Bangkok. Its main attraction is the River Kwai. There is some night entertainment and food places.
I only stay overnight in Kanchanaburi city itself, that's why I cannot give much of my experiences. I have walked from the train station to find out my hotel location, but it's hard for me to find the information, because many people are not speaking English, although they are very kind and really wants to help me.
Not easy to find a hotel like pattaya, long traveling from place to place, its not very convenient if you don't have a car.
Don't miss to visit River Kwai bridge and monuments. There are various adventure activities in jungles to do for fun.
Particularly intetesting is the Allied POW graveyard and over the road the Death railway Museam. The museam is top notch, very relevant and well maintained.
This city is so peaceful with lots of historical. If I have chance, I still need to stay more longer and travel to other district e.
Lots to see and do. Erawan Waterfall, JEATH Museum, War cemetery, Gallery, lake, national parks etc. Some beautiful waterfalls in the area - all worth a visit.
Very interesting area, many monuments to vist, great food at fantastic prices, chaep accommodation, very scenic area and easy to get to.
Nice place to ge unwind and see lots of historical sites, Khmer remains and enjoy shopping/eating/staying.
A delightful place. Not too large and although a Tourist Destination it still seems to have avoided the brash gaudiness that often accompanies such activities.
Many of the area's tourist attractions relate to the Burma Railway, which is still in use. There are also several national parks, waterfalls and other attractions in the area.
You should stay at least 2 nights if your trip involves Bang Pa-In. We went to Bang Pa-In on the second day in a songthaew and it took about 1.
Compared with Bangkok or Chiang Mai/Rai Kanchanaburi is not much of a city; the reason we go there is nature, silence, river, hills; there are plenty of hotels located on the river, at various prices offering wide variety of services; Kanchanaburi is thus a place to travel to for relaxation, hiking, nature view and experience; beyond that the city also offers some restaurants and drinks with a little bit of night life attached.
Other than the River Kwai Bridge, the cemetery and a museum about the Bridge, there is very little to do in Kanchanaburi itself.
Kanchanburi is a sprawling town with the bus station at its centre. There is lots to see in and around Kanchanaburi but most people only come to see the River Kwai Bridge and War Cemetery.
