The city is small, but beautiful. People is kind and helpful. I will visit the city again in the future.
Amazing food with cheap and affordable price almost everywhere, even food inside the market area taste so good.
If you only come here to see speilok and the orangutans do yourself a favour and stay near the conservation centres as Sandakan itself is tired old and dirty.
Probiscios monkeys outside Sandakan are must to see!! Orang utans are also worth of visit but if only one is possible to see it is absolutely the first one.
A lot of places can be visit such as, turtle island park, sandakan memorial park, bornean sun bear conservation centre, lankayan island, sepilok, labuk bay sanctuary, agnes newton keith home, rainforest park, buddhist temple, fisherman village, gomantong cave, sandakan heritage mesuem sunday central market.
Sandakan is a small town with little things to offer. I went there for a bussiness trip and not a holiday
Seafood is plentiful but not cheap. We found seafood more expensive than we expected. Local food in restaurants is very reasonable.
It's a small town, where you can easily travel and access to different places like the heritage sites, nature parks, and others.
A world class facility which is doing wonderful work at rehabilitating the orang-utans for the wild. A great experience.
Stay in Sandakan for a day before your jungle trip and return for a couple of days to explore the region.
Sandakan is a city on the seaside with easy access to tours and boat trips. We found a really good restaurant on the rooftop of Balin Roof Garden Bar & Bistro.
Sandakan offers nothing for the tourist - it is merely a place to base yourself and visit other locations on this part of Borneo such as turtle island, orangutans centre or Kinabatangan river.
Sandakan city is more based on local workers, transiting for tourists and local business. Most tourist spend time seeing Orangutan and monkey rehab centers, jungle tours and island tours.
As a 2nd largest town in Sabah, it is a great place to find the more civilised items and it is also a place to have a chance to visit those sanctuary of crocodile and monkey.
There are so many things to do in Sandakan. You just have to deal with your hotel to arrange for your activities.
There is a lot of history around this city but the city itself is just a place to stop for a day or two.
You must hire a car for travelling outside city center. Most places accessible by public transport but not convenient for travelers because of insufficient or no information provided.
SANDAKAN FOLKS RISES VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING AND RETIRES EARLY AT NITE... SO TRAVELLERS WAKE UP EARLY TO JOIN IN THE FUN.
Sandakan is not a large city, but there are a few nice things to see/do. I recommend the sun bear and organguatan sanctuaries (right next to each other), as well as the rainforest discovery center - but make sure you go there early in the morning to catch all of the birds.
Sandakan is the main starting point for Sepilok or Turtle island. A busy little city On the waterfront.
Sandakan town has nothing to offer except a few pleasant Restaurants, what one goes to Sandakan for is for Eco tourism, seeing the Orangutans, Sun Bears, Mackack & Proboscis Monkeys, all in their natural habitat.
Dirty and smelly around harbour and outside hotel. No decent seafood restaurants. Seafood expensive $ 40 U.
2nd largest city of Sabah. The best place to hang around is probably Prima Square because it is cleaner and less messier than the central.
Most people that come to Sandakan visit the orang utan park, I think its worth staying a little longer to so you can visit the brand new sun bear enclosure and turtle island park.
Very quite after dark but lots of activities around during weekend. Nothing much to visit except temples, museum and church but the good thing is that seafood are quite cheap and fresh.
Sandakan having a nice view during sightseeing tour. A more to nature who ever loves nature you should come here and visit Kinabatangan River, Selingan Island to having turtle always there for lying egg.
the adventures trip while we having fun in river cruise, trip to island seightseeing and many more activities
Sandakan is a peaceful and quiet town. The people here are friendly, the food here is cheap and delicious.

There are many outdoor activities in Sandakan. However, the roads towards those destinations are bumpy.
