Great place to stay near Whitby. Close to a lovely beach”

Well looked after by happy staff. Great basic menu. We had a 'room in the roof' which was too warm and were unble to turn the heating down. Took a while to be served in the bar as the waiting staff from the restaraunt also served at the bar.

Check with hotel first”

The hotel online offer was better than the one I paid. The hotel would not change it as my deposit had been taken. We asked for a sheet but never got one. Out of the two rooms we had one had a lovely view and one of the fire escape. Need a car but this end of Whitby is really quieter and lovely. We drove to the hustle when we needed it. Hotel clean, it’s very inkeeping with the style of Manor House, wood everywhere and a bit dull. Breakfasts was good , plenty to choose from. Look them up and look. out for their offers .

Attractive exterior, but dated and expensive. ”

Exterior, gardens and location.

We arrived at the hotel and were impressed with the well kept gardens and stately home appearance. Check in was ok and the reception staff were reasonably friendly. We were then taken through the nicer side of the hotel, through to an older less presentable side where our room was. The room itself was ok, with nice feature windows, but rather dated overall and the fan in the room was broken along the side with wires hanging out of the side. Then the main issue with the room became aparent, the poor sound deadening between rooms, especially from the room upstairs which sounded like the inhabitants were actually sharing the room with us! The other issue is the routing of the water from the floor above, as it noisily thunders down the tubes in our room and woke us up at 5.30am when the people above had a shower. The bed was reasonably comfortable, although only a double and the pillows were a bit on the hard side. Overall pretty poor for what is a very expensive hotel.
