Best choice on Lanta! Don't settle for a resort”
7 Reasons why Freedom Estate is the best place to stay on Koh Lanta based on our experience: 1. STAFF- The character of the Rolf and his wife goes far beyond attentive courtesy to self-sacrificing kindness. The day before we stayed here my wife seriously injured her ankle. Rolf's wife offered to take us to the hospital and translated for us through the process of getting it x-rayed. Rolf offered to drive us to a nice restaurant on the beach each day so we could still enjoy our stay even though she couldn't get around easily. The staff truly go out of their way for their guests to have the most enjoyable time possible without expecting anything in return. 2. KITCHEN- Everyday we bought fresh fruit from the local fruitstand (3 min walk) and made mango smoothies, thanks to the freezer and blender. We also saved money on food by being able to make a few meals at home. 3. FREE SHUTTLE from the pier- We eliminated the hassle and price of public transport by contacting Rolf the day before and he was waiting for us at the pier. He took us back on our departure as well. 4. BEAUTIFUL SETTING- From the comfort of our own balcony we enjoyed the sunset each evening. It was a beautiful and relaxing place to end the day, only 5 paces from bed. 5. FREE DRINKING WATER- Instead of constantly buying bottled water, here you are given virtually unlimited filtered drinking water for FREE. 6. LOCATION- At the bottom of the hill you can rent a motorbike for 200 baht per day. It's fun and an easy way to get up the hill. Also in the village is a 7/11, fruitstand, laundry, 8-12 restaurants, 5-8 min. walk to the beach. 7. BED- The bed was kingsized and very comfortable unlike almost all other beds in Thailand. We greatly appreciated our stay here and would love to go back someday. It was the best place on our 2 week trip in Thailand staying at resorts and other hotels. My only advice is that if you leave the doors open a lot like we did, you might want to wear mosquito repellent to bed.

A great place to explore”
We stayed at freedom estate for 10 nighys. Rolf and Nu were here to meetbus. Appartment had everything we needed including a fully equipped kitchen, with oven, gas cooker, blender, slow roast cooker and all cutleries etc. Because its self-serve it gives you the peace and quiet you like and the freedom to cook and explore at your own leisure. Rolf has a large collection of dvds you can watch on the telly and also lots of books At the bottom of the small hill climb (4/5min walk) you have laundry, hairdresser, numerous mini marts, rentals and tourist information. On the other side of the roadfrom the appartments you have phrae beachwhich you can see from the appartments. You get get views of phi phi and other islands. Rolf was always available by email at any time for any issues (which we had none) or information. We even turned up 2 days late of our booking and was not a problem to stay for our entire 10 nights which was excellent service. Well worth the money. No pool here but plenty of beaches. I went there with a friend and we had a very good time at the Freedom Estate. For me it was perfect location. away from the busy street or the sometimes busy and loud beach, but walking 3-4 min. you are in the middle of everything and right next to the beach. Rolf and his wife where very nice and helpful. The place is very pretty, like you little home, kitchen full equipped. Very nice view from your own little terrace down to the ocean. Every day fresh towels and on top you get fresh water every day for free, I found it very good to not produce that much plastic garbage every day buying water, just refilling my bottle. Would go there any time again!

The perfect stay!”
I visited with two things on my mind: work and beach. The WiFi here was very strong and reliable. There are plenty of power outages in Koh Lanta, but they don't last long. My work was never affected. The location is great. Super close to the beach, but right above the main road to secure a quiet setting and privacy. The apartment itself was heaven. Very clean, comfortable, and the best kitchen I've found in Thailand. The hosts were amazing also! Can't wait to return!

Lovely Location, AWESOME Kitchen! Great Owners :)”
The biggest take-away from our stay was the generous hospitality from the owner, Rolf and his wife, Nu. This is how good it is. We had emailed and spoken to Rolf the day before to be picked up from the Koh Lanta Ferry Terminal. What we didn't know was the ferry between Phi Phi Island and Koh Lanta would break down, which added a few hours to the trip. Arriving several hours later, Rolf was waiting for us at the ferry terminal and kindly drove us back to the hotel. When we left, he organised a Minivan to Krabi and was willing to drive us to the bus-stop -- although we decided last minute to stay on the island longer. The Apartments themselves all look to be the same. My partner and booked the place based on the Kitchen as we are travelling around in Thailand for a while and are getting fed up with Fried food all the time. It is VERY AWESOME making fresh-fruit smoothies every day for a dollar or so! Kitchen includes everything you need to cook up a storm -- just bring the ingredients! The view is great overlooking the ocean below and we had some amazing sunsets each night. The Mosquitos are out in force but we had great mosquito screens. The shower was nice and warm but it was so hot in April -- a cold shower was welcome. The bed is huge and very comfortable :) The downsides for us were the internet was not very reliable. For a day or two out of our 7 days there, it was not working at all and at other times it was slow. We needed to spend some time on the internet each day, so when the internet went down, we luckily found an Awesome Bakery near by that had high-speed wifi and great food! (Just turn right from the drive-way and look for the big Bakery sign a few hundred metres down the road). Overall though -- very happy with our stay but did think the high-season prices for April was abit too much compared to other places. But then again -- not many other places offer kitchens! Excellent view and relaxing”
We enjoyed our stay. We find it relaxing to be there. Thanks so much for the friendly and supportive owner who took the trouble taking us from the pier and to meet our departing bus very early in the morning. This self contained apartment/town house will suit couples and families who prefer independence. The estate in on the hill side but the owner is happy to give transportation if you ask for it. There are restaurants and shops including 7-11 nearby.

Very well equiped (full kitchen, TV+DVD, DVDs to borrow for free, safe, A/C + Fan, chairs and table inside and outside). Free daily drinking water refill (a gallon!). Nice & clean bungalow. Very nice owner pair & friendly staff. Fully recommended! Regarding location: it's a bit up the hill, so you have a nice (sunset) view onto the sea and Phi Phi island. However, bear in mind that this means it's not directly located at the beach like some other resorts. Nevertheless, it's only a 5min walk to the beach and the nice balcony/ view outweighs the some distance to the beach.

Great place”
Very beautiful and quiet place. The veranda overlooks the beautiful garden and the sea. Spacious room with air conditioning and fan. The room has everything you need for cooking, TV, DVD, Comfortable bed and a good cleaning of the room. To the sea 10 minutes on foot. Nearby there are shops, a pharmacy, a cafe. I want to thank Rolf and Phen for a great stay.

I stayed at Rolfs place for a couple nights and everything went perfectly, there is everything you need in the cottage and the location is good aswell. This was one of the few times staying in hotel and leaving with the feeling that I got way more than what I paid for. Thank you Rolf!

Bad location”
The apartments are up three hills. Definitely not a place to stay if you have children. Also at night there is absolutely no lighting and the hills are very rocky and Stoney so is quite dangerous. Bathroom had a really damp, strange smell and was too dark to see anything
