Get off at Hakone Yumoto Station and transfer to the mountain train to Ryokan. You can take a free shuttle bus from the final stop, Gora Station. We stayed in the main building, and the Ryokan was composed of traditional Japanese-style bedrooms and living rooms, which were surprisingly spacious.

Great Ryokan Onsen”

Mikawaya is a great ryokan more distant from the busier Yumoto area. This gives a relaxing vibe to our stay and is a great contrast to the busier Japan cities. There is good access to natural and hiking spots nearby, which is beautiful to look at. Staff and meals were excellent and the shared facilities clean. This was one great stay for us as a relaxing destination.

Villa with Open-Air Onsen Bath

Very nostalgic and memorable, the standalone villa is amazing”

We stayed in a detached villa with a private hot spring bath. The bath was smaller than it looked in the photos, but the outdoor bath was just enough for two adults to relax and soak, with a squeeze for a child. The indoor bath was also a bit cramped for two people. The outdoor bath had a wall surrounding it, so the privacy was good and the view was pleasant, although it didn't look as picturesque as in the pictures, probably because of the season we visited. The room was comfortable, but the building was old and the electrical outlets were not convenient. The overall indoor temperature was a bit cold, and some corners didn't receive the heat due to the partition, and there was no floor heating system, so going to the toilet might require enduring the cold. However, the antique atmosphere was very nice and we liked it a lot. The room door couldn't be locked tightly, so there was a possibility of insects entering the room, although the safety concern was not significant. It's evident that maintaining an old house is not easy. In the summer, there might be a chance of bugs entering the room. The hotel's courtyard had beautiful scenery, with cherry blossoms in spring and maple leaves in autumn. Combined with the historical feel of the hotel, the overall stay was memorable. The staff were excellent and provided service above standard. They also had staff who could communicate in Chinese. The food was good too, and although it wasn't amazing, you could still feel the effort put into it. The hotel's location was next to a bus stop, and they also provided shuttle service between the hotel and Hakone-Yumoto Station every half hour, so it was convenient to get around. It's a hotel worth staying at again for a night, and maybe next time we can experience the scenery in a different season.

Antique Scenery & Traditional Japanese Coussin”

The mystery of a long-established ryokan, friendly kind staffs, and hearty beautiful meals. Everything was so impressive during my stay.
