"the view is spectacular. both valley view and kinabalu view is great - my personal reference is valley view. room is basic. no air-conditioning (i don't think anyone need it anyway), with water heater & fan. bed is average. lots of bugs at night, fortunately no mosquitoes. close the windows and door tight. buffet breakfast is not great but good enough with mainly malaysian dishes and some kwailo's (bread, sausage, baked beans etc). as mentioned by other reviewers, the path leading to the hotel is just graveled & without street light. you will have good bud massage and i don't think you want your own car on it. it is also very steep (guess >15deg) - the rented exora auto with about 250kg of us struggled to climb in first gear at certain stretches. the path entrance is not easy to find at night, worse with rain, especially if you are coming from ranau direction. gps (use the free malsingmap or mfm map. google map is hopeless) is highly recommended. bigger sign board is shown to those who are driving from kundasang/kk. it is about 5 km from kundasang, enterance is to the right of the road. there are more restaurants selection and cheaper in ranau (10 km away). the road side restaurants at kundasang are slightly more expensive & with very basic selection. "went there with my dad for a short trip to kundasang. strategic location, less than 5 Min drive to Kinabalu park, 10 Min drive to kundasang town. Reception area nicely decorated. they have books for you to borrow too. we booked a budget twin room. was located at the most far end but i like the privacy. small and comfy room. just that there will be insects flying in to the room and bathroom. (if you're a nature lover then should be ok) there's water heater but can't really feel the heat ( better than using the tape water directly- it's freezing cold) breakfast is simple but ok la. overall quite a nice place to stay"

"We had a wonderful stay in J Residence Villa. There's 5 of us and the rooms and living space are large enough to cater all us in and maybe more. The water heater works well, we don't have any issue on taking a bath in the morning. The residence is located way lower than the main road, you really need a "healthy" car so can drive up and down through the entrance. The Kundasang town is about 10-15 minute drives away where you get everyday supply. However you can't see the Mount KK from the Residence, thats the only thing that on the down side."

"I stayed one night with my senior citizen parent and a friend. To get to the place have to go through 1km uphill and downhill track. Kinda thrilling haha but the place is pretty with very clear view of mount kinabalu and crocker hills. Take a morning walk outside and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. We stayed at 2 twin rooms. Perfect room with a balcony. It would be perfect if slippers provide because it is damnnn cold! Haha even the water heater couldnt beat the coldness. I shall recommend the place to those who searching for tranquility far from the city. My parents are satisfied with the stay and so do i. The owner is very nice and friendly also veeery helpful. Since it is located abit far from kundasang town the owner offered his help to buy dinner for us. Im totally gonna come back here along with friends and family. "

"We were a group of 6 adults, 1 teenager and a 10 month old child. We booked 3 rooms (2 standard rooms and a deluxe room) (#007,006,009) All 3 rooms were in impeccable condition, they were clean, well kept and furnished with necessary mod cons. The balconies in the rooms had a lovely view of the mountains. The strawberry garden and rose garden is an additional specialty of this hotel. We had complimentary breakfast with our rooms which was individually prepared for us based on our choice from a standard menu. In terms of location the hotel is well placed and a short drive away to all the local attractions. The Kundasang town centre is just 5 mins away, where you find a bank, mini market, vegetable stalls, kfc and a few restaurants. Overall we had a pleasant stay at the strawberry garden hotel thanks to the very kind host Mr. and Mrs. Madhu, who answered all our queries tirelessly and were ever wiling to share their knowledge about Kundasang. Cons: - many insert if you open outside lamp - heater not work nicely. Max selection also the water still slow. - maybe can add more hang place at the room for towel. - maybe can add door slip to avoid insert into the room"
