Great host. Great location. Great stay.”
Centrally located in Malacca in the heart of the historic section of town the Oriental Guest House is one of the best stays we've had through our travels. Upon our arrival we were greeted and made welcome right away. Our host provided us a hand tailored map of the surrounding area and made a point to sit down with us to ensure that any questions we had were answered. Our room (#8) had a great view of the river which was just below and is accessible from the kitchen on the ground floor. The room had both a fan and A/C (which we didn't need except on rare occasions). There are two communal bathrooms which are both cleaned regularly and have hot water showers. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas range and we share the fridge with our hosts and the other guests. There are a few things that stand out about Oriental Riverside Guesthouse: 1. Kind hosts Both the owner and his wide are kind and were always available to lend a hand or chat while we spent time in the common areas. They know the city and have a good sense of what people who visit Malacca are looking to do. During our stay they drove us (in their car) to the local supermarket when we asked where one was located (there is a bus that takes you direct as well). We spent a couple of nights out at the locals market with them and very much enjoyed their company. 2. Kitchen We travel a lot and enjoy being able to cook for ourselves. There is a giant Tesco just a short bus ride away and a small supermarket just next door for simple items. The gas range was great and the kitchen never closes. The guest house never felt over crowded so we were able to cook a few of our meals and when we didn't feel like cooking we walked to the local spots which were very affordable. 3. Centrally located It was a little tricky the first time into Malacca to get a sense of direction but shortly after walking around it becomes very easy to navigate the streets. Great location, friendly staff”
Good things come cheap sometimes, and this is best to describe Oriental Riverside. This small guesthouse is perfectly located in the heart of the city, where major tourist attractions are within walking distance. The twin sharing room does not have an attached bathroom, but it was okay for us as the shared bathroom is right beside our room. We chose the room facing the river and the view was excellent at night. The guesthouse provides basic and useful amenities as well, such as free WiFi, free DVD titles and satellite TV programs, kitchen and washing machine, and not to mention free bicycle rental. One thing to note though - during our stay we managed to view the rooms without windows (two rooms beside the entrance and one at the first floor). These rooms are cheap but we don't recommend it. Because there are no windows these rooms are somewhat stuffy. They are also along the walkways and can be noisy too.

Good location, nice environment, clean & big room”
we really like our stay at this guest house. the hosts are so nice to their guests & they also kindly explaining about the tourist locations around malacca. the house is simple, clean, warm, and nicely situated by the river. you can see small boats sailing to and fro. when we got our room, we were really surprised. our room is so big & clean. windows with view of the streets. clean bed, air conditioner, and they even prepare towels. overall, the place is beyond our expectations. we surely gonna stay here again if we visit malacca. thank you, oriental riverside residence guest house

Relaxing. Restful. Clean. Highly Recommended!”
We had a wonderful night at the Oriental Riverside Residence Guest House. We stayed from Saturday to Sunday, September 21-22. Booking was easy and affordable through agoda. What you see is what you get. It is a hostel with an excellent room with riverside view. They have some rooms without views or windows so make sure you request for Room #8 if you want to know what we experienced. The room is quite simple with rustic furniture that give it a homey feel. On occasions one can hear thenpassing Melaka River Cruise boats. They also have a small bench outside on the river path where you can chill and just wave at the passing boats. There is also a convenience store next door. Very convenient. Shared bathrooms are very clean and simple. Towels are provided.

Never a better guest house at this rate”
When I reached the guest house, i was given a choice of having the riverside view or the top floor. if you were to choose the top floor,you will face the traffic which is what I don't really like while the next is riverside view and I prefer this more. For your information, this room is room No.5. Advantages: 1) room is clean and wide with good air-con. 2) toilet is clean and very near to my room. 3) very friendly guest house owner who is always smiling and greet me. He also introduced alot of places to visit in Melaka to me and the direction to get there. 4) walking distance to Jonker Street (around 5minutes and a nice and cheap dim sum shop nearby the hotel) 5) you can take a walk behind the guest house which is the riverside and the view is even better at night with the lighting along the river. Disadvantages: 1) the signboard of the guest house isn't very big so you won't see it easily 2) the ceiling fan in my room is not clean

Fantastic gem on the riverfront”
We chose this guesthouse based on the reviews on another website, plus the low price per night. It surpassed all our expectations for cleanliness, size of room, friendliness and value. Best of all however is its location: through the kitchen door you step out onto the wonderful riverfront with all its murals - this guesthouse has one too! Only a short walk from Jonkers and the food of Chinatown, it was peaceful at night and the aircon worked wonderfully. Free wifi too. We came back to Melaka after a couple of nights elsewhere and we only wanted to stay here again. The main thing to note: there are two shared bathrooms, no rooms with ensuite. However they are spacious and spotless with hot water, and with only a few rooms there was never a long wait. This guesthouse has been one of the highlights of our stay in Malaysia so far - very highly recommended.

This is a good experience that stay in Oriental Riverside Residence Guest House. Friendly staff and standard facilities provided. Just a walk distance 5-10 mins to jonker street. Overall was satisfied. Just a bit noisy for my room because nearby main road.

Loverly hotel and service with a smile”
We stayed 2 nights at Oriental at the 2nd floor,shared bathroom but clean and convenient.Location is good,along Melaca River and 5-10 minuts walking to jonker street & Christ church.The owner is very nice, give us a map and valuable recommedation for local restaurant,coffee,etc.I will still choose this guesthouse if i visit Melaca next time.

Firendly, homey clean and comfortable”
We really liked our stay in this guesthouse, which is exactly this - a guesthouse. You really feel welcomed here, as a guest of a couple that runs it. The moment we stepped in, they were expecting us and greet us warmly. The room was spotless, spacious, tastefully furnished and we had amazing view on the river. Shared bathroom wasn't a problem at all since it was always clean and there are also two bathrooms for not so many rooms. Guesthouse is close to Jonker street and some nice restaurants and hawker stalls.

Cozy residence that meets the essentials perfectly”
This is the fourth hotel/residence we've tried in Melaka and this is our absolute favorite. Extremely good value for money and we enjoyed the place much more than the other upscale hotels that don't deliver enough value for the price. The place was extremely clean, cozy, and comfortable. The shared bathroom was initially a worry, but turns out there are ample toilets for everyone (2 on a floor) and they were much much cleaner and well-kept than expected, even better maintained than a pricier hotel we stayed in before. Location is a perfect balance between accessibility to the major areas and secluded quiet. The owners were also very nice and the mini-map/local advice was a pleasant touch. They even lent us umbrellas when a sudden downpour occurred. The only thing this place doesn't have is food/dining (although they have complementary kopi), but this really doesn't matter because Jonker Walk is only 3 mins away and that's where all the good eats are. We are so happy with this place we are taking the time to write this review even though we normally wouldn't bother.

i found this gh from tripadvisor and i was surprised why the rank of this gh is no.1, until we settled down. oriental riverside residence is clean, good location of the town, especially, they treat you like a family member. we just stayed one night, and i was sick at that time. the boss (i'm ashamed that i forgot to ask his name) took me to the clinic and found me a doctor. i'll absolutely recommend this gh to my every chinese friend. thank you!

Lovely Guesthouse”
oriental riverside residence guest house has a very beautiful riverside view. it's very enjoyable for just seating the riverside with cold drinks. ashi and li-li were very very nice and gave us details advices on attractions and transportation tips. on top of that, the guest house is very clean. it just felt like being at home. i am definite recommended for traveler to stay when visiting malaka.

Lovely hostel, great location, nice hosts”
The hostel is located along the Malacca River, so you can enjoy a nice walk along the river at night with your other half or family. The location is just a short 5 mins walk to the hustle and bustle of Jonker street, yet far enough to not be disturbed by the activities. There is plenty of food within walking distance, and a convenience store that opens till 12mn right next door. We stayed in Room 6, on the top floor of the hostel, and it was a nice big room with air conditioning. There are 2 toilets on the 2nd floor, shared by all the visitors, and they are clean and well maintained. The hosts are very friendly, and more than willing to share their knowledge of their lovely town.

Enjoyed my stay in oriental riverside residence guest house. Location is perfect. Very convenient location as very near to Jonker street. The owner is very friendly. Room was clean and with window facing river view. Love it! As i mentioned earlier, its kinda warm to feel home when away from home. Rather than to experience to stay in hotel, we manage to meet different country of people in a house...its really feel differently and we love it.

affordable price, best location and superb staff”
it was great experience during my stay in here. i was confirming that would arrive late and i was surprised that they waited for me. clean and tidy guest house, i got big room with windows. my tips is choose a room with windows. but the wifi connection wasn't strong enough. lil bit difficult to connect. nice surrounding also. near from jonker walk, so can find many kinds of culinary. you can walk or rent a bike to explore the whole area. the staffs are very helpful and gave me direction to the tourism places around jonker walk. if you need a taxi,they have a regular taxi driver and the taxi driver is very friendly. overall, i will back to this place again if i visit Malacca.

fantastic location, felt right at home”
we had a wonderful stay at this guesthouse as the owners asri and lingling? made us feel so welcome. asri gave us a map and circled the tourist interests, places to eat and things to see as soon as we stepped foot in the door, the room (number8) was spacious and overlooking the river with fan and aircon, bathrooms are shared but they are kept extremely clean, body wash and toilet paper is supplied as well as the basics in the kitchen to help yourself to. just a short 2 minute walk to jonker walking street, my tip is dont eat on the street... so many amazing little vendors around.asri and his wife (sorry i dont know how to spell it) made our stay even more special by taking the time to sit down with us in the evening and tell us more about their culture and different places to visit. there is a mini mart next door which is open till 12am and very convenient. we will definatly be back!!!

A wonderful stay! ”
we really enjoyed our stay here! it was a great location to walk along the riverside. it was also a short walk over to the heritage parts of melaka. the rooms were very clean and quite large, compared to others in se asia. we were a bit apprehensive about sharing a washroom; however, it was kept very clean and was just beside our room. it was the owners, a husband and wife, who made this stay memorable. when we arrived, they gave us a map with many points of interest. they even chatted with us in the evening. they were extremely helpful and accommodating. we would definitely recommend this guesthouse!

Friendly service and clean comfortable rooms”
Asri was very welcoming and friendly. Even though we arrived at 11pm, he made sure to explain all that we needed to know and showed us to our rooms. The hotel is located in an ideal location, within walking distance to Jonker Street, with a back gate to the Malacca river. Would definitely return here for another stay next time.
