Great stay”
The George hotel delivered on so many fronts! - Great location in the heart of new town but very managable (and enjoyable) walk to old town; we walked everywhere except the Britania yacht. It is also great for access to amazing restaurants and cafes - newly renovated room and bathroom a definite plus - very helpful staff with most of them being very friendly as well. A couple of watchouts for you to consider. None of them were deal breakers for us 1. Rooms in the old building have no AC. We did not mind as it was not needed at night and we were out most of the day but the one day when we went back to the hotel at 3 pm, we could not stay in the room. If you are traveling during a warm season, ask for an airconditioned room. 2. Some of our towels were frayed and one even had a hole. Very clean but lierally showing wear and tare. Would definitely expect more from such a facility. If we are ever in Edinburgh again, would definitely stay there.

A real classy hotel in the heart of Edinburgh”
where to start? what an amazing time spent in the heart of edinburgh for a weekend away together.the staff at "the george" are friendly and attentive yet appear quietly and move swiftly about the daily business of maintaining the high standards of the hotel. our room was in the new part of the hotel which is modern, spacious and nicely decorated. the location of "the george hotel" couldn't be better situated with a vast selection of shopping, dining and stylish bars all within a short walking distance. all in all we have nothing but positive praise for the hotel and will be returning for another stay in the near future.

Very pleasant stay at The George”
The George Hotel had very helpful and courteous staff. There was a staff member continuously at the front door of the hotel and he gave good information and directions on different event. that were in the area. The room was very comfortable and clean. The hotel is centrally located and within a short walk of many shops, restaurants and Edinburgh castle. The only issue we found with the hotel was the wifi - it only worked in the hotel lobby and it wasn't that fast. Overall, I enjoyed my time in The George and if I do visit Edinburgh again I would return there.

Great Edinburgh location”
The George is a great Edinburgh location for accessing everything. Since it's two blocks up from Princes Street it was very quiet for a central city hotel. Easy walking to great restaurants and shopping. Day bus pass makes all of Edinburgh easily accessible. Staff very friendly and helpful. Watching Scottish wedding receptions from the lobby a plus.

Exceptional”
Our family ( with 1 daughter ) stayed 4 nights at The Principal of Edinburgh in two rooms with connecting doors (451-452) .When check in, Katrina ( sorry if I spell the name not correct) at the front desk was very sympathetic and attentive. Also the the man who took us to our room which was very helpful. The same man who later always help us during our stay there (sorry I forgot to ask his name). Katrina and this gentleman also very helpful when my sister arrived from The Hague Dutch and we are not in hotel. Bedroom/bathroom clean and nice. Old building but modern renovation. And in every room there is a "Tuck box" that contains snacks, candy, chocolate, coffee and tea which certainly become our daughter favorite. Before Edinburgh, we stayed 7 days in Le Meridien Piccadilly, London. But my daughter said, she is happier at The Principal Edinburgh. And I agree, hotel and service very satisfactory. We will definitely be back again.

Great hotel at a great location”
Great location, a beutiful building and friendly staff. My room was a little bit noisy as it was situated next to a back alley where delivery trucks and garbage trucks could be heard quite clearly, but other than that everything was excellent. While you can find cheaper hotels, the value for money of The Principal George Street is still very good and it is worth the extra pounds. I will definately stay here the next time I visit Edinburgh.

Wonderful hotel, brilliant location, great value for money”
You can't find a better spot for exploring the beautiful city of Edinburg. It's right in the centre of the New Town and its shops, a short walk to the atmospheric Old Town, a stroll to the trams if you are coming from the airport. Recently refurbished, it retains all the charms of yesteryear with what we require today. Love the usb sockets for re-charging in my room. A special note for the staff -nothing was too much effort, they went out of their way to make my stay memorable, whether it was providing excellent recommendations for dinner nearby, printing, and generally just being delightful. As you can read, I would definitely recommend staying at The George.

Great hotel in central Edinburgh”
We stayed here on a Treat Your Partner break and it was such good value. The hotel is right in centre of town and has a great atmosphere. The staff were so friendly and we loved the kilted porters and bar waiter. Our room was beautiful with rose petals strewn on the bed and there was a little tray of sweets and chocolate dipped strawberries on our arrival. We also enjoyed the complimentary glass of champagne which we drank sitting outside in the sunshine at the front of the hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean and our room was spacious and decorated to a very high standard. If we stay in Edinburgh again this will definitely be our first choice of hotel.

Small room but excellent location”
I haven't stayed at The George for over 30 years and so was a wee bit surprised when I saw that my room was about a third of the size of the room that I had the last time. Good decor, plenty of cupboard space but I prefer to have at least a couple of drawers for storing smaller items like underwear, socks, scarves etc and there were none. Good bathroom but I would have preferred a smaller basin so that room could have ben left for some kind of shelf on which to leave my toilet bag. My main issue was that I was frozen. I cannot believe that a hotel room in Edinburgh of all places has neither a radiator in the bedroom nor a heated towl rail in the bathroom. The newly tiled floor in the bathroom was dreadful to walk on as it was so cold. The Air Conditioning was set on high fan and at 20 degrees C. 20 degrees C with the sun on your back is quite warm. An AC set at that temperature is just plain freezing, especially in a room the size of the one I was in. I tried the AC at both 27 and again at 32 degrees and still just had cool air blowing on me. I tried switching it off completely but it just turned itself on again. I have lived overseas and so I know about AC.This would be good in the summer months when the city can be warm but it has put me off staying there again even although it's in a perfact location for shopping in Princes Street, George Street and the St James' Centre.

Grand hotel”
Only had one night at The George and loved it. As you walk off the street the Foyer is magnificent, but it's the staff who set this hotel above others. We got a super deal and didn't have breakfast, but I'm sure the meals would have been of a high standard. The corridors had the squeakiest floorboards we've ever encountered, but the carpets and furnishings are so plush that you don't notice them once in the rooms (we were on the 3rd floor). The room has enormously high ceilings, lovely comfy bed, beaut bathroom with all the trimmings, tea/coffee & jug .... would definitely recommend The George.

Awesome hospitality from staff - special credit to Martin from Concierge!”
Despite the horrendous weather, Edinburgh is just the loveliest and friendliest city of all times and the George Hotel definitely adds credit to it with an exceptionally friendly & helpful crew of staff - big applaud to the Concierge Team, especially Martin, who loves his job and is super willing to assist. This is my third stay in this hotel and I've always loved it - superb location on the posh George Street, surrounded by luxurious brands and opposite the wonderful restaurant - The Dome. Bed is comfortable, room is spacious - though bathroom plus all doors in the room are major let-down, they're all too old and InterCon should really consider a major renovation, all the wardrobe & bathroom doors look as though they will fall off any time. But the shower itself is very good with strong water pressure. No gym or pool in the hotel though - necessary for InterCon to look into this. I might be biased but George Hotel is certainly the go-to in Edinburgh, no doubt!

Beautiful hotel and perfect service”
Friendly greeting from the concierge on arrival. The receptionist and manager were extremely helpful as it was our first time in Edinburgh. (Things to see, restaurants...). My husband and I will definately go back to The George Hotel. A must-stay hotel in the city.

Beautiful hotel, beautiful staff”
This was my first time staying at The Principal hotel. I arrived early and received a really warm welcome at Reception. Delighted to be to be told that a room was available so I had a few hours to relax before my friend arrived. We both had an excellent wee stay in Edinburgh from then on. All staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. We were staying on a Room Only basis but we used The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen and Burr & Co. If the weather had been bad we would not have wanted to leave the building! On checking out received a fond farewell. This is a great place to stay. Just realized that I haven’t mentioned the location! We never used transport once - that’s how great the location is!

Birthday Present from the Kids”
This is the second time we stayed in the George Hotel in Edinburgh and it was every bit as good as we remembered. The rooms are to a high standard, the staff were helpful, very polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. Look forward to our next visit

Wonderful hotel in the heart of the New Town”
This is my second time to stay at this hotel and it did not disappoint on this second visit. It is in a good central location on George Street and so was really close by to all the things we wanted to do; shopping and eating! The only downside to the location was that we had to arrive by car and the designated parking was not very convenient or close by. Also our room became very warm in the night and when we opened the window obviously it was quite noisy being on George Street. The room was lovely though, especially with all the little touches and the Christmas decorations in the hotel were beautiful and so we loved our festive stay!

great addition to Edinburgh hotel scene”
a welcome refurbishment and new livery for this property... staff were very accomodating and helpful - especially Valaria on the front desk. Hotel feels "loved", something rarely found in UK properties. we stayed for two nights on a short trip back to UK and would certainly stay again when next home in Edinburgh. If there was one thing to improve I would suggest breakfast was a little chaotic and that the brasserie was a little small for the number of rooms however food was tasty and a big thing for me - good coffee. I doubt you will be disappointed if you stay here and location is fantastic.

Great location”
I stayed at the George for 2 days over a weekend. Location is much better than any hotel on Princes Street. Right in the best shopping area (not for "touristy" shopping). Conveniently close to major attractions and a short walk to other areas. I had a single room so it was a bit on the small side, but comfortable enough for a single traveler. The George seems to be a combination of a few buildings so navigating to get to my room was a bit maze-like with several twist/turns and tight stairs. Make sure to have the concierge handle baggage.

Exceptional”
A beautifully designed and extremely comfortable hotel! Love how a touch of history was maintained in the space and how posh it felt. The tuck box full of snacks was our favourite part of the room, so handy for munching on during our days out. On top of that, the location was excellent, only a short walk to many places including Old Town. Would definitely recommend The Principal to anyone looking for a place to stay in Edinburgh!

it is a good quality hotel with great location for shopping and good quality restaurants and cafes nearby. staff are attentive and knowledgeable. historical sites are within walking distance. i would consider staying in the george hotel on my next visit to edinburgh.

Lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff”
Hotel is situated perfectly. Within walking distance is everything you need, railway station, tourist attractions and shops. Edinburgh is an amazing city with so much to do the only downside at the moment is the extensive construction work for the tramlines. It was a horror story trying to park the car on the saturday we arrived and totally ruined our first day. Other reviews i read insisted on train travel and they were spot on. My only gripe with the hotel room was there was some type of generator outside its window (which had been covered so no view was available). It emitted a constant droning noise which became very irritating in the dead of the night and sleeping difficult.
