It's good to know that upon booking this homestay, you get a 2days-1night tour of the region, starting in Can Tho.
Where to start?
Our guide, Chau (pronounced Joe), pick us up at the hotel at 7:30, from where we walked approx. 5 minutes to a private and really nice boat waiting for us at the pier. We started with the Cai Rang floating market where we wander around and could buy the best pineapple I ever had.
We then continued our boat ride for 2 hours throught the canals to get to the homestay. At this point, it only gets better: the rooms are almost new, tidy, very nicely decorated and cozy. We took a rest in the hammocks next to our room before having the best lunch I had in 4 weeks in Vietnam. Generous and delicious family cooked food, plus you get to eat with Chau, who taught us a whole lot of stuff about how to cook, traditions, etc.
Quick rest, then back on a boat (smaller) to go net fishing in the canals, before heading to a rice field where farmers were cutting the rice.
Back to the homestay, we flew kites in the ricefields nearby. Much fun! And by the time you get hungry again, an another amazing meal is served for dinner.
The day after, on the morning, we went for a bicycle ride around the villages and the rice fields, where children we're cycling with us during their school break!
Everything was just perfect! Really! Absolutly a must! And Chau, our guide, was a big part of the succes!
Thanks again!
