"After reading some reviews we weren't expecting much but this hotel is excellent. We stayed deluxe room which was spotless, had English TV, fridge and heaps hot water. The pool was wonderful after hot day- big, clean,cool and swim up bar. Breakfast was buffet of heaps of choice, Indonesia and western. Staff were wonderful. Friendly and helpful. Sometimes I think people writing negative reviews forget what they are paying. Great place, very happy, we stayed an extra night. Restaurant good food and very reasonable price. Thanks"

"It will be very hard for me to review this hotel without some bias because by boyfriend proposed to me there. But the fact that he chose Ijen Resort to propose it testatment to how stunning and romantic this hotel is. It is worth noting that the road up to the resort from the main road is atrocious though so if you are getting a taxi from the train station then make sure it is quite a good one to withstand the 4 wheel drive track that the road becomes for the last 4 km leading up to the resort. "

"Pros: Love everything about this hotel. The rooms are divided into cottages, with the inside layouted like a usual hotel room. Big wardrobe, cable TV, AC, water heater, big semi-open bathroom, complete toiletries and sandal. The swimming pool is open 24 hours, and the beautiful lamps surrounding it makes it ideal for a night swim before bed. BIG CONS: The view is really great, you can see both sunrise and sunset as the hotel is facing the Bali strait and you can actually see Bali Island from your room. We eventually stayed one more night in Banyuwangi just to enjoy relaxing at this hotel. Cons: The only thing I found uncomfortable is the fact that there is a door connecting our room with the next room (as one cottage building is divided into two rooms). This way, sounds of people talking can be heard. "

"The room was lovely, the pool was lovely and we enjoyed being in the middle of a plantation. The downside was that rooms aren't air conditioned and the fan in our room didn't work well - we couldn't turn it up so that it would provide air movement. Also, if you are after an Indonesia breakfast, you won't find much choice here. "

"Our trip was very mixed. The hotel is lovely, but only the rooms are open and the restaurant etc closed. Food is a 10 minute drive down the hill to a sister resort (The resort is nice however). Ijen Volcano is also closed to foreigners! Thankfully the one young staff member in charge there is excellent and did his best for us and helped me with everything, going above and beyond."

"We enjoyed a very pleasant stay in Kalibaru Cottages en route to Sukamade Turtle Beach in Meru Betiri National Park. We booked our trip to Sukamade Turtle Beach also through Kalibaru Cottages. The trip to the Turtle Beach was very well organised with lots of free additional excursions by the guide to a farmer processing it's own sugercane, tradtional market visit, hiking to Teluk Ijo (Green Bay) and more while travelling to and from Sukamade. On the return trip we got dropped-off at Ketapang for the ferry to Bali at our request. Both driver and guide were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful throughout these 2 wonderful days, highly recommended!"
