The location”
GREAT! Very nice location just next to the ocean with the djungle behind. The adventure and feeling of first day of vacation started directly leaving the taxi and walking the 500 meters barefoot in the sand to reach the resort. You can't get closer to the water than this. It felt private since a little bit away fr.o.m. the other resorts, but still close to the town. The owners and their staff made our stay very pleasant and they gave us a familiar feeling. Flashpackers is the new thing. We can highly recommend Rock Sand Resort and this will be our place next time we visit Koh Chang.

Room away from the busy beach.”
We booked the BeachHouse at Rock Sands for my brother and his girlfriend. The location is lovely away from the main strip at White Sands. It is a bit of a walk (about 500 Mtrs) but worth it for a few nights. The Resort doesn’t have road access so you have to walk along the beach with your luggage to get to it. If you call them they will send a porter to bring your gear. The restaurant is very picturesque, overlooking the sea and there’s a couple of other restaurants next door either side. The location is out the way, but that was what we were looking for. It’s a bit hipstery, backpacker old school style. It’s got a lot of rustic charm. I would say the Beach House apartment was overpriced considering you could stay in one of the more upmarket places like KC’s or Centara for the same sort of money. But again you’re paying for the location. The room was very musty although once the Air Con was on the smell went quite quickly. The rooms terrace was great. WAN was exceptionally helpful.

We spent 4 nights at Rock Sand hotel on august 2012. Although it was during low season, we have enjoyed a lot there thanks to the perfect location and the comfortable rooms.

Relaxed island holiday”
Amazing location, right overlooking the water. White Sand beach was beautiful, lovely for swimming in. Lots of restaurants in the area, easy to arrange day trips and activities. Hotel was clean and comfortable (shower water was not always hot but the weather was so warm that it wasn't a problem). Keep in mind that you have to walk along the beach to reach the hotel, which may be an issue for those with lots of heavy luggage.

Quiet out of the way hotel”
Nice quiet spot with a nice beach. Room was musty smelling but you get used to it after a while. Good food and service. Long way down the beach and we had lots of luggage. Our friends were in town so we left our luggage with them. Noticed that they had a rock sands boat which can probably pick up your luggage but did not inquire about it.

Nice Place - No road access. Apathetic staff. ”
The room was lovely. We paid for one of the best rooms, it was worth it. Huge bed, good bathroom, clean. Nice. The restaurant has the best view and is a lovely place to sit and drink beers and watch the sunset. Super easy access to the beach below. The place is affordable and nice. The staff did not give a **** if we were there or not. They mostly ignored us. They were not friendly at all. But honestly, I don't care that much. It did feel a bit awkward and like we were interrupting their games of candy crush on their phones when we wanted to order things. They were all glued to their phones all the time. No smiles here. The worst part about the hotel is that there is no road access. You have to walk for miles (10+ minutes) in sweltering sun on hot, soft sand with all of your luggage and to go anywhere. It was exhausting and made going to the shops really difficult. I am going back to Koh Chang this weekend and despite the good experience at Rock Sand, I just can't stay there again because of the awkward location.

Peace and Quiet”
There are no streets on either side of this hotel. The staff will be willing to help you with luggage if you call them. Otherwise, it's a 10 minute walk along the beach to get there. The workers were very friendly and helpful with all hotel and activity booking. The rooms were a little small, but came with a great view and balcony. The best part about no roads on either side is how you'll be rocked to sleep by the sounds of the waves crashing on th beach.

Our stay at Rock sand was refreshing”
We drove to koh chang, when we discovered it was a 500 meter walk along the beach to get to the resort we became a little worried as there is little car parking at koh chang, after we checked in the attendant personally showed us a place semi near where we could safely park, after that the stay was very good , room was clean, awesome sea view, good restaurant and drinks, wifi was strong enough , of the many resorts wevexstayed at koh chang, it's the first where the owner actually is visibly involved in the day to day operations the best part, is the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks at night when your sleeping or sitting outside the room.

Cheap place right on the ocean”
Rock Sand is at the northern end of white sand beach. Almost every room has great sea views (even the really cheap ones). The included breakfast is only tea, juice and toast (you have to pay if you want anything else). The deluxe rooms are well worth it.

Great place”
I had a great stay here. Yes it is a bit of a trek +- 800m walk on the beach to get there from 7-11 bridge, but once you are there it is well worth it. I ate at the restaurant quite often and the food was great. The breakfast that comes included with some rooms are not worth the extra money rather pay for a coffe and some toast if you want breakfast or go into town. Rock Sand is just far enough away from all the beach bars so that you are not disturbed but you can walk there if you want any time or you can pub crawl down the beach coz there must be something like 50 bars down the beach. WiFi worked good and the staff could communicate well enough. The manager/owner can be seen around all the time if there is any problems. I am comming back asap.

Great place...in 6 months...right now...no no & no”
My wife and I booked this hotel online using a discount website. We got the room cheaper than if we booked direct. I checked twice. I'm a world traveler and sue to be in the trade, so i will write an honest and fair review even if i sound harsh at some points. I hope the owners will react to my comments and act accordingly for their sake. As you walk to the hotel, you get a taste of what is coming. The path is not maintained at all....ans somewhat dangerous.....we were not impressed. How much does it cost to make a nice woodden and secure path ? As you walk in to the hotel, you are greeted by an horrible pile of bricks, and some cement bags laying right onto Buddha's Statue which is by the way in a very sorry state. My wife who is a buddist Thai was offended by this. All it would have taken, was to cover the bricks with something pleasant to the eye and store the sand bags away from the eye. This is a no no, and highlight the poor vision the owners have of a hotel business of this sort. As you walk to your room, you can't help thinking , this is clearly not a good time to be booking a room right here right now. The hotel is in renovation, so everywhere you look it's a mess....constructions all over....stuff laying where they managed to find space etc.... Again a no no.. Then they have a toilet behind the bar. This toilet smells badly of deodorising balls.... Do the owners have any good taste at all or any idea how to run a hotel ? In short this hotel should not be open right now as it is. The owners should do the honorable thing and close down while it is getting meant and re-open only once the upgrade is over. It is cheap to do that on your clients back. No one fancy seeing such an ugly mess and be rudely awaken or eating breakfast by the sound of of an electric saw. Ok it must be used at some point but not before 11 am !!!!!! But it's not all bad. The rooms are good,and location top. Best spot in kho chang. Go there, but in 6 mont

Wonderful beach experience”
It's an interesting situation during high tide as the hotel literally sits above the waves. If all you want to do is just hang out and eat and drink and look at the ocean it can't be beat I think, but of course it's good too if you want to get out there and get wet and feel the sand beneath your feet. I've seen criticism of the staff there, and I can understand it somewhat but I think it's unfair too. I was there during low season and often was the only guest, at least in the restaurant/lobby. The staff numbers around 10. So they get bored, and when that happens you have to work to get their attention, but once you do they are very accommodating and very friendly and they speak the English well (enough).

good if weather is good and u looking for a quiet ”
Guests friendly hotel which is nice. 5-10 minutes walk on the beach to the main road to get there. White sand beach is well overrated, it's quiet, nothing to do, only 50+ tourists around, expensive. Was not offered help or even showing the way to the resort when arrived and called. When raining...almost impossible to get in or out of there. I felt imprisoned, no TV in the room too.Thankfully the nearer hotel allows walking through their premises to avoid the very awkward and dangerous passage.Resort Full of monkeys, staff neutral not friendly, can only see the sea from your room...weird feeling. For me this was the worst 3 stars hotel out of 10 hotels I stayed in Thailand within the last 3 years. My rating is 5-6/10

Chill out time!”
You have to walk along the beach a bit from the parking, but the staff carry the luggage and show you where to go. It's total escapism. We tried the Cambodian platter the first night and it was deliscious. Other food was so so, but that's just because we live in a Thai fishing village so we are spoilt for Thai food! The atmosphere is great at this resort, very relaxing with attentive friendly staff.

Beautiful view, clean room, but very inaccessible ”
Stayed in deluxe room. The good: Very clean room, nice view from the room and even better view from the restaurant balcony that reaches out over the waves. The owners and staff are very pleasant people. Wi-fi is strong and fast. The not so good: Access is very difficult, especially when in high tide, as you have to walk a long way down the beach through the water and strong waves. The double mattress is really two single mattresses, and they are very low quality, the type without springs where the whole bed shifts to the side when you lay down, thus if you are sleeping alone, you have to remain on one side or the other. Water pressure in the shower is very slow and water heater is not very effective. Also the cheapest, roughest, worst toilet paper I have ever had the agony of using; luckily there is a bum gun, but again, with very low water pressure. Be careful, also, about coming back to the hotel after 10 pm. There is virtually no lighting around the lobby or steps up to the rooms, which could be a bit dangerous for kids, elderly or buzzed. Basically, it is a good deal for the price, especially if it’s a busy weekend and other hotels are already booked. While it would not be my first choice, I would definitely stay there again if need be.

Relaxing location”
The location of the place is great but it was hard to arrive with the luggage as you can't get very close to the hotel by car. Rooms have wonderful ocean view and it's a great place to relax. The standard of our luxury room was ok but not great, shower was useless. Walking on the beach is nice but the sand gets everywhere in the hotel area and in the rooms as well.

On the best part of the beach”
If you want to chill on the best and least crowded part of the beach, then this hotel is perfect. The hotel also has good food, friendly staff and caring owners. The hotel is what it say it is and lives up to expectations. It is a reasonable walk from the main nightlife and restaurants. But that's the price you pay for a stunning, peaceful location.

Family vacation.”
We had a pleasant stay with our three kids. Massage just under our balcony was great, meals at the restaurant were tasty and the price level was average. The personnel was helpful and spoke enough English. Water was very clear and all family enjoyed the sandy beach although there is not much to snorkle. Having the breakfast from the menu instead of a buffet was a bit disappointment.

Nice hotel but far to walk from transfer”
Nice resort, the waves from the sea could be disturbing at night. The room was good with nice sea view. A bit far to walk from the transfer stop to the hotel (500-600 meters)
