Beautiful place to stay”
i really enjoyed my stay at the sukthavorn residence and will definitely be staying there again if i come back to chiang rai. it is a few km's out of town but if you like walking, then you would love it as i did. an easy ride on a bicycle with beautiful scenery or they have scooters to hire from the resort. the owner and his family/staff were so friendly, nice and very helpful. the hotel is clean and new and have balconies overlooking the river which is superb to sit and unwind at the end of the day. close to a market, local eateries and a 7 eleven. free coffee, tea & hot choc all day and although the menu is very limited, it is very cheap and tastes good. all in all, a superb place to stay and enjoy chiang rai.

Superb budget hotel!”
Chiang rai has quiet a few good budget hotels. Sukthavorn is definitely one of them. The room was new and clean. It had all the neccessary items eg. hairdryer, electric kettle. The TV is now flat screen TV, not standard TV like in agoda's picture. The few downsides is there's only standard Thai channel and the hotel is 5,10 minutes drive from the center of Chiang rai. So it would be best if you have your own transportation.

Felt right at home here”
Stayed for 3 nights. Have previously stayed at the Le Meridien and Baan Norn Plearn in Chiang Rai but this time chose to stay here. I really liked the garden, breakfast area and view from the rooms. The female staff member was really friendly and thoughtful - even bringing an umbrella to our car door when it was raining! Would stay here again. Chiang Rai is a lovely town - if you have your own transport then this is a great place to stay. Sure, it's a little outside of the main town, but that's not a problem if you have your own transport. Can't be beaten for the price! Thanks for the great stay.

Comfortable and Quiet”
Ideal for a couple looking for a quiet place close to but not in city proper. A little secluded for solo, but worked out for me as such. The fastest Internet I have seen in China and SE Asia, and I've had some great connections in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai. Clocked at above 6 Mbps. I suspect this is becuase not many are online in that part of Chiang Rai. Also, passed on WiFi and connected with in-room LAN cable. A rarity, these days. Like others said, need your own transpo. Great shower, very firm (hard) bed, nice little balcony overlooking what I would hesitate to call a *river,* but still good to see some water and green stuff. If you speak no Thai, be prepared to be patient with staff. Only thing I would suggest as a downside is old TV (CRT), not able to connect to laptop. But if you don't care about TV, and most won't, all good. Especially for the price. Can't be beat if you want to feel like you are in countryside while being able to scooter to center of town in five minutes.

Nice, comfortable place.”
I loved this place, the owner, though I never met him, spoke to me on the phone a few times while I was there, offering both his help and hospitality. The only difficult thing for me was that I did not have my own transportation at first, so if you do not, then it is a bit isolated. For me about an hour's walk from the main part of Chiang Rai. However, I rented a bicycle, and after that it was very easy to commute back and forth between town and the hotel. My last day the owner had his worker drive me with my bicycle to be returned to the rental place, free of charge. This he offered on his own without me asking anything. The next time I come to Chiang Rai I will definitely stay here again.

Quality stay”
Stayed a couple of days first time in Chiang Rai, nicely appointed room, quality furnishings and lovely little balcony, great place to rest and relax after a day's sightseeing, definitely stay again..... only criticism was that cable channels weren't on TV as we thought so when we were rained in we had to talk to each other !! 555

Close to airport and hot spring”
Strongly recommend this hotel to budget travellers who can use rental car. (there're many retal car shops in the airport and the rental cost for compact car is approx 1000 Baht/day, including full insurance.) The hotel offers us very reasonable price but provides us with all necessary stuff. I've stayed here 3 times and never had any disapointment. Will use this hotel whenever I visit Chiang Rai.

Excellent budget hotel”
Very comfortable. I always stay this hotel when I travel to Chiang Rai. No disappointment, considering the price.

great place to stay in the countryside”
The free breakfast was very minimal but ok for a small hotel. The owner and staff were very friendly, helpful and kind. The room was a good size with moden aircon and kept clean. Its a bit tricky to find the hotel and it would be best to map out your route before you get to chiang rai, or use a GPS as i did. Whilst the hotel is set in the countryside, it is away from the town and this may be a major disadvantage if you do not have your own car/motorbike

Convenient, quiet and efficient ...”
The Residence is close to the center of the city but you need your own transportation. The hotel is in a quiet area, on the edge of a small river, the rooms are perfect if you want a place without frills but perfectly clean, comfortable and pleasant . The staff is smiling and welcoming like the boss. I will come back !

Peaceful place with warm Thai service”
although we booked for only 1 night as transit point to chiang mai on the next day, the owner/manager who is fluent in english had contacted us and advised the nearby places of interest. he also gave a laser color-printed map with english names of roads, temples, markets so we can discover the city on motorbike. the receptionist miss sew is particularly charmant and tried her best in limited english to answer our queries. the location is secluded, about 7 kms from the clock tower but this allow us to truly enjoy the environment of chiang rai.

Recommended if you have kids”
We really enjoyed out stay here. The family, VIP room was great. A lot bigger than the other rooms. Nice view and seating area. Great value. We had a car so getting around was easy. The city of Chiang Rai isn't very big so being a little further out isn't a problem. We stayed for 5 nights.

nice and quiet”
We enjoyed our one night here. It is outside of the town of chiang rai, on the north side of town. You do need a car to get to and from the hotel and it is a little tricky to find. The room was large and clean with a balconey that overlooks a river/canal. good value for the price. Breakfast was just okay; instant coffee, cold eggs, fried rice and toast; pretty common fare for Thailand.

Spacious, clean, new resort”
The room is spacious, clean, and tidy. Locates next to the small river (Kok river) makes our breakfast much nicer. The breakfast was sufficient. The staffs are really helpful and friendly. There is also wifi and computer to use.

Lovely hotel and smiles all round!”
Well. We loved this place, and decided to stay for a few more nights then after. The service was smiling and caring, the room was always clean and tidy, the situation was quiet and tranquil. The breakfast is nothing amazing - if you like the basic eggs, congee, white bread and simple hot drinks then it's included, but I think they're new so maybe they need some time to work it out(?). ....We had our own breakfast on the balcony in the morning - where it was always sunny!!!! It was so lovely, we would stay there again if we came back!! The place is completely new, awesome shower, toilet, bed was super comfy with proper duvets, nice little setup and tastefully decorated!!!!!!! For the price, for the city... it was perfect for us! :-)

Clean and Well Furnished”
This is a pleasant little hotel with limited number of guests. If you have a car or motorcycle, the location is fine with quick access to the city across the river. It's surrounded by open country, neighborhoods and small businesses and a few churches. The view is OK and it is mostly quiet. Breakfast is simple with fried eggs, toast, instant coffee, and a Thai dish. This is the best hotel in it's price classes I've stayed at in Thailand or Malaysia.
