Nice hotel, helpful staffs”
Great location. The hotel is just near the Tam Coc square, very easy to travel to other destination. We booked a room with River View and it looks fantastic in the morning. We also love the food in their restaurant. They provide everything as per your request and give you very good recommendation for menu. And the price is reasonable, then you don’t need to walk to other nearby restaurant. Thank the staffs very much for taking good care of us and very detailed itinerary in Ninh Binh. We enjoyed our trip very much.

tam coc is worth an overnight stay”
we didn't really like ninh binh so decided to give a hotel in tam coc a go and i'm so glad we did. there was actually a power failure at the tam coc resort so we ended up staying in 'The Long' hotel across the road which was great. We had a lovely time our room had big windows and we had a great evening of playing cards on the lovely couches on the restaurants balcony.

Nice rooms, balcony overlooking the river”
We stayed here for 2 nights to tour the Trang An river and wetlands reserve. The town of Tam Coc is easier access to these than Ninh Binh and is small and quaint. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and travel and tour agencies are also close. The hotel is really just a place to sleep, they offer breakfast, but very little variety and we never did see the reception area. It was nice to sit out on the balcony and watch the river activities.

Balcony over the river - best location!”
I spent a week here as a base to rent a motorbike and explore the area. It was a great decision as the hotel was walking distance to restaurants close by and right in the heart of Ninh Binh province, one of the most scenic in Vietnam. Room was spacious, staff was delightful and friendly. It was pleasant just sitting out reading on the balcony among the trees. Breakfast could have been a little more inspired but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.

Great location, poor communication ”
We’ve had a journey at Gecko Hotel rather than a stay. We arrived very early for check in because there is only one bus from Phong Nha to Tam Coc and it arrives at 3:30am, so we sat and chatted till the staff arrived at 6:30am. We tried to explain our predicament to the front desk but they didn’t speak any other language than Vietnamese. This is the ninth place we’re staying in Vietnam and this is the first time we couldn’t communicate with the reception. After two phone calls with the manager (who does speak English) it was agreed that we would pay an additional 50%, not much of a welcome after a 9 hour trip, but fair is fair. The room we were given 110 (ground floor garden view) was awful. The walls are peeling from damp and the bathroom drain was producing a rotting smell that permeates the room. We went to the front desk to discuss this but all we could solve was our laundry. 40000 VND per kilo is pretty good but we were stuck in the bad room for the night. The next day we woke up with a cough, probably from the damp and went for breakfast which is pretty disappointing. It’s at this point we’d had enough and demanded to speak to the manager ourselves. Mr Hieu leaped into action, upgraded us to a VIP room and rented us is own scooter for free, for the day. The VIP room has a lovely view of the lake and contrary to what the other reviews say the doors can be locked. Gecko hotel has a lot of potential but unfortunately you have to complain to get it. Ps. There’s a caged peacock in the garden which is very stressed. It paces all day and has nothing to sleep on.

too noisy in the mornings”
the room is big, clean and comfortable . the bus will let you just in front of the hotel (which is a quite place) when you arrive in the city, BUT in the mornings, the staff make cleaning arround the garden and they are quite noisy with music and everything or just because they are cleaning in front of your room at 7:30am. wifi works, but staff dont speak English at all, not even a bit to answer simple questions and the breakfast is not nice. except for the mornings, is a comfy place to stay

Room was massive with lovely balcony overlooking river. Aircon and wifi were perfect. Can rent motos and bicycles right from hotel. Water boiler in room. As stated in other posts, breakfast is pretty limited so just grab something out.

Pleasant hotel”
Room was large and spacious, the view by the lake was great and we enjoyed a stroll along side. Especially kind host with useful advice for your type of travel for a reasonable price, and the hotel staff were friendly. However, not recommend to hire a motor bike here, it was in bad condition, you don’t have many choices. Apart from that, it was a good home stay.

Excellent river location, indifferent service”
the rooms are large and clean. the double doors open onto the river. the view and the breeze are very nice. however, when they built the hotel rooms, they forgot to make windows! if you close the door, the room is pitch-black. the area is beautiful for riding a bicycle. you can ride through the villages to hoa lu, or ride through the rice fields, or along country roads. i highly recommend bicycling in this area. the only drawback is the air quality: the picturesque mountains that you see here are the source for the stone used to make cement, and the entire region is dotted with cement factories that befoul the air. the hotel does not have bicycles for rent. they send you to a restaurant across the street.

Good Location for the boat to Tan Coc”
I was there on a Sunday night in November and as best I was able to judge I was the only guest. Nevertheless the staff there were helpful and welcoming. I had problems finding the hotel in the dark because nobody knew the English name and I think they should include the Vietnamese name of the resort on the booking advice to help travelers. In the daylight there probably isnt an issue as it is located in the main square of the village where all the boats are tied up so is very convenient for a boat tour. Breakfast was included in the charge but was a simple affair and I was a little upset at being asked to pay for a second cup of instant coffee.

There is only one person that can speak english and ist was really difficult, there is a lot of staff but you actually don’t know if they are working there, they ignore you and aren‘t that friendly. The Room was okay, if youre just looking for a place to sleep. Breakfast was very simple but it‘s nice that they offer it..i think there are better places to stay!

Disappointing stay, bad breakfast, inattentive staff”
Immediately upon arrival we were greeted by a receptionist who didn't speak English, and didn't even try to be nice. The room we got smelled terrible, and only had one window that we couldn't open because it was open to the yard. After that we met the hotel owner, completely drunk and slurring. The breakfast was not good, we had to beg to get an egg. All in all, not a pleasant stay

worst stay in Vietnam”
The door is broken and loud when you go in and out. the breakfast is disgusting. The food is just sitting out and it's stale and old. I got sick after every meal. I mean disgustingly sick and it was immediately after eating the food. They were very attentive and helpful and bought me medicine... but not worth it. The bathrooms for the dorm never got cleaned. It looks like they don't care about the bathrooms at all. It's disgusting. I puked outside instead of in the toilet, that's how uncomfortable it was. Very nice staff members and beautiful property!

It could have been nice 10 years ago but everything seemed to be falling apart. E.g., showers screen was patched with some sort of clear tapes. We couldn’t sleep well as karaoke was going on downstairs pretty much all night. Nice view and it is very cheap, but I wouldn’t stay there again.
