Hidden gem in postcolonial Malacca”
The Kahaani is without exaggeration a unique former colonial governor's mansion skillfully transformed into an intimate hotel in a quiet corner just outside of historic Malacca. Rather than pick one of the many Malacca coast hotels available I chose The Kahaani for its proximity to lake Tasek Durrian Tunggal's historic mosque Masjid Datuk Machap (in the Chinese village of Kampong Machap Baru) where I attended a cultural event, but I did not expect such luxurious space, marbled and parquet floors, stately stairwell, high ceilings, nineteenth-century furniture, astounding mirrors, and the attentive hep of the staff which is nothing short of pampering. In the treadmill room I also discovered the Malay marble game Congkak and enjoyed playing several sets. I also had a chance to sample two exceptional restaurants in old Malacca which I recommend: the Kocik Kitchen (Nyonya Sino-Malay cuisine) where I sampled my first mangrove nut chicken dish and the shaved ice pandan desert, and the Parameswara Ikan Bakar in Umbai over the water, across from Pulau Besar island, where I had the best grilled fish ever. Without doubt the best hotel experience and most pleasant stay!

Loved the place, but be prepared for the state of the pool!”
I absolutely loved staying here and wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Kahaani again. However I will flag a few things so other travellers are not disappointed. The Kahaani is in Ayer Keroh which doesn't really have much going for it, BUT it's really easy to get a Grab car so that's not and issue. The room I was in was a bit tired in places, so it doesn't' pay to be hypercritical. The pool is amazing! But not properly maintained! I can understand that it would be a huge undertaking but this is the aspect that disappointed me the most. I am pool mad, LOVE them. The pool was cleaned just before I arrived, but still had quite a few floaty bits so I asked for the filter to be run, which improved things greatly. However, I still wouldn't put my head under as in the back of my mind I was still concerned about the water and the level of chlorination. Abang Zai and his Team were fantastic and couldn't do enough for me!

Superb! Must Try”
This used to be the official house of the Governor of Malacca. It has only six bedrooms and is managed by a hotel company. I realized later that the upper range rooms have better value at not so high price. The location is superb - near the highway, and near MITC, where there are plentiful of shops and attractions of Ayer Keroh.

Quiet, luxury in a Governor's former residence”
The Kahaani Malacca Hotel is steeped in history having once been the residence of the Governor of Malacca. Rooms here are limited there are just six luxuriously finished rooms fit for royalty.

Nice Property but some location needs Upgrading”
The property is located very close to the Ayer Keroh turn-off and is far from Malacca. If you do not have a vehicle, it is difficult to get to and from Malacca if it is the purpose of visiting this locality. However, its location has its own merit; it is quiet because there are only 6 rooms in this big mansion. We were the only guests during our 1-day stay . The property is very elegant and nice, but it will be much better if we have come here with several groups of friends. The room that we stayed in is large, but there are obvious leakages on one part of the room. It has not been attended to , and should have been. There is a Jacuzzi bath in the room but the most disappointing part is that there is sediment in the system so it is shocking to see the debris in the bath after the water is drained. Regular cleaning should have been carried out. The person, Dai who attended to us is absolutely immaculate. He is helpful and willing to share. In general, it is a good experience.

Luxerious and spacious rooms, but dirty pool”
We were a family with an 18 months todler staying for a weekend. Only when arriving Friday night we realised that we were the only guests in the hotel for that night. In fact, the hotel only has 6 rooms. We were very positively surprised by the room, which in fact was one of the most luxurious suits we had ever stayed in. I undertand the Kahaani is the former recidence of the governor, and must have been used to entertain important visitors. Breakfast was served outside poolside and was prepared specially for us at the time we requested the night before. The breakfast was nothing fancy, but very nice: Eggs, sausages, bacon, a bread basket (with toast, danish, croisants, etc), jam, orange juice, coffee and tea. We spent the morning relaxing in the pool, but must say that the pool water seemed quite dirty. The tiles in pool was also covered in what seemed like a layer of algees. I must say I was a bit concerned that our child might get sick from ingesting the pool water. The hotel is not located in central Jakarta, but about 25 minutes drive outside. This was not a major issue for us, since we had a car. I would for sure recommend the hotel for any of my friends wanting to spend a night in luxury at a reasonable price. However, I would warn them that the pool water is not too inviting, and that the hotel does not have a restaurant so that meals need to be taken outside.

Nice and relaxing”
The hotel is actually a 5 star bungalow in a quiet neighbourhood but close to activities and fun in Ayer Keroh Melaka. The stay is very good and relaxing. A bit sad that don't have much time to spend around the area.

Nice and Quaint Place to Stay”
It was an enjoyable stay for my family. The staff is very helpful and polite. Special thanks to Mr Kamal for this excellent customer service. The hotel offers a quiet and relaxing place to stay but still within a drive away from the tourist attractions at Bandar Hilir. Truly happy and quite sure will stay over at the Kahaani when the opportunity arises.

Great for families and business travellers”
This little gem of a hotel allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of Melakka and to get a feeling for the lifestyle of the colonial era in a beautiful garden villa setting. Although it is a bit far from the inner city, taxis are quite cheap and the staff will call one for you (it is no problem to get a taxi in Melakka even in the early morning hours). The hotel is particularly recommended if you are attending some business in the MITC area. It is an easy and safe 10min walk along the main street (even though I didn't need to, because the staff went out of their way to drive me there). I would also recommend the place for families, since the garden/pool area is beautiful and the rooms are very spacious! (I think I had the smallest one and it was more than enough - much bigger than the picture suggests) Plus, the hotel feels like a luxurious museum and there are many things to discover for the little ones. Another bonus is the staff, which is very friendly and professional. If I really had to look for a minus point, I would perhaps say that the breakfast could have more variety. It is very tasty, but didn't change much for the few days I was staying there. If the hotel would change the breakfast every other day (and perhaps included more fresh fruit) it would easily get en even higher rating.

The Kahaani Hotels Review”
The Location is good as it inside housing area. Not much traffic.. very very near MITC and Malacca government department. I love their suite and their staff which is super friendly! I'm only disappointed that they have no in house chef for night or afternoon meal. This hotel was previously the Malacca governor house! So it quite exquisite. I love their hotel for their peacefulness as there only 6 Room available. It feel like it our own home. . . . But there are a few stuff that are spoil in their suite when i arrive.. but i have no much complain as its just minor problem

Exceptional”
Fantastic residence, warm and friendly staff. Amazing grounds and amazing rooms. Only small downside was that it's a little bit of a drive from Jonker St and the main Malacca town (25min drive). However the residence and rooms more than made up for it.

Great boutique hotel with fantastic service.”
I was pleasantly surprised to realize the hotel was actually the previous Governor's residence and had already been converted to a hotel in the past year. Setting of the place was beautiful, and the room was very spacious and comfortable - there were no bookings as it was a weekday so it was like having a mansion to ourselves. Surroundings were quiet as it was located in a residential neighbourhood. The pool looked lovely but didn't really have time to go for a swim. Was greeted by the butler, who was absolutely lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was served at the dining hall, and had pastries, eggs and fruit, with tea and juice. It's probably a 25 minute drive to most attractions, but if you have a car, it really is a wonderful stay and an experience of its' own, and well worth the distance if you're looking for a quieter part of the neighbourhood.

Very friendly Staff, quiet hotel and surrounding”
When we arrived, we were surprised to see the hotel that looks like a residential bungalow. The receptionist (Pak Kamal) explained to us that the hotel used to be a house for the melaka governor, and the governor has only 6 months stay in the property. There was only 6 rooms on rental, with swimming pool at the back. It was very grand, and very quiet when we arrived. Pak Kamal is extremely friendly, provides one-on-one attention to every guests. The swimming pool is maintained, however the water a bit murky, and it has some pollens on top which bother sometimes. I dare not swim for long time. I hope the management can improve the cleanliness of the pool.

AWESOME”
The hotel used to be the governor's house so there are only 6 rooms; 2 premier and 4 luxury. 1 premier and 1 luxury is on the first floor and the rest are on second. The furnishings were OMG AWESOME! Felt like a king. Getting the premier room gets you butler service and can have breakfast anywhere and anytime you want. GREAT for those on honeymoon or if family can book ALL 6 rooms, then you have the whole compound to yourselves...

lovely place, privacy are best”
it was the Malacca Governor resident, and now it was used as a private stay. not many rooms they have but all comes with attached bathroom and well maintenance. The manager - En Zaid are friendly and any demand you need, he will try to fulfill it too. The location is away from the Malacca town, so if you want to eat, you might need to drive out for fast food whcih is near to this place, else, drive down to the town about 30mins and you can have all the food you like. Beside the water pump being off in one of the night earlier, and resulting the water can not reach to our bath room shower head, everything were fine and we like it a lot. Room are extremely big and you too will love it. We will come back again.

Peaceful short gateaway”
I have no problem with the costomary suites room.. it is so spacious, clean and nice except few things as per below :- 1) water pressure in my bathroom sink was very slow. 2) No butler service as mentioned in the hotel website. I need to go down myself to the kitchen to get the hot water. 3) Phone in the room is not working to call for service. 4) wifi is very slow. My son need to go down to the hall to download his game. 5) No towels provided in the swimming pool area. I need to go up to get the towels. Location is good. Easy to look for restaurant and the attractions places.
