Staff went above and beyond to accommodate us during our stay. Room was nice and clean and views were amazing. Breakfast was cooked to order and very tasty. We can’t wait to come and visit again.

Above average”
Really disappointed on arrival as the pics online didn’t live up to expectations. Decor was tired in the room and the tv didn’t work. The bed seemed old and the quilt very thin and the divan had no valance. The shower was poor, badly mounted and was slightly faster than a drip. The people were really friendly however, and it was clean and warm. It was little things that let it down like a dirty mop bucket left in the room at breakfast. This gave off an awful smell and was quite off putting

Could do better”
Good points - warm but basic room, needs a little TLC. Good location & great views. Large car park. Not so good points - shower room - horribly sticky floor - too much cleaning liquid used & not rinsed? Shower head was broken and would not stay in place on the rail. Basic breakfast, no cereal or fresh fruit offered, though cooked breakfast was nice.

The Plough - near Whitby.”
Staff helpful. Room clean but basic for the price. Had to ask for a chair in room, difficult for older people to sit on the edge of bed! Bare bulb from ceiling rose. No wardrobe but a rail screwed onto wall with coat hangers, above a chest of drawers! Needed TLC in outside space. Breakfast was good, full English but you didn’t know what else was available i.e cereals as nothing was on display. Dining area floor not hoovered from previous evening and curtains were still closed. Had to wait for staff member to arrive although we were told that 8.30am was fine. Wouldn’t stay again.

Don't Stay Here - Can't Sleep With The Noise And Shabby Room.”
We booked for a one night stay for the last night of the coast to coast walk. It is not on the path but there was nowhere available in Grosmont. When we arrived we were told that the restaurant was closed because a wedding party had booked the whole place. This meant we had to eat in a nearby fish and chip restaurant. We were tired after walking all day and needed some rest. This was impossible as the music from the wedding reception boomed throughout our room until midnight. We could not even hear the television. The noise was incredible. We should have been told that a wedding reception was taking place and given the choice of cancelling. Letting the rooms whilst hosting a reception in and outside is not possible. This is undoubtably the worst experience I have ever had with an overnight stay. Breakfast was also not served until 8.30 which is too late. The room was in poor condition and shabby. Give this place a miss.

Lovely old pub in a convenient location”
The accommodation was clean and the staff helpful and welcoming. Our room was small, but comfortable, and fine for a two night stay. The hanging rail situated above the chest of drawers was not ideal though, as it was impossible to hang anything bigger than child-sized garments on it! Breakfast was a little disappointing. The full English was good, if a little greasy for my taste, but that seemed to be all that was on offer - no fruit or fruit juice, cereal or marmalade, and I could not drink the coffee as I found it weak and quite unpleasant. We ate at the pub both evenings we were there. I was a bit disappointed the first evening as, having chosen from the menu, I was informed that my choice was unavailable. It would have been good to know this in advance, and we made sure to ask before looking at the menu on the second evening. The food was good, though, and we enjoyed both evening meals. This pub has a lot going for it, and provided reasonably inexpensive, clean and comfortable accommodation very convenient for Whitby and the surrounding area. I would recommend it, but with some reservations due to the issues mentioned.

Brilliant!”
Great little place to stay. My wife and I went for my birthday in January for 1 night. As we wanted to go to Whitby for the day. We had room 3. Lovely and warm on an ice-cold January. Perfect, and if I hadn't had work I would of stayed another night. Staff were very friendly and landlady. Nothing was any trouble. They were in no rush for us to check out the next day. Only a few miles from whitby main town. We will definitely be going back. Breakfast was spot on. Dog friendly. We loved it and would recommend to anyone looking to visit Whitby. Reasonably priced compared to the main hotels and B&Bs in the town.

Accommodation and bar area was great. Fantastic breakfast. The only problem was the buses stopped running into Whitby at 5pm.
