Great hotel. We had a spectacular room on the 6th floor with a balcony view of the harbor and all the little boats in Cat Ba. No worries about the 6th floor--they have a shiny modern elevator. Excellent value-for-money, best we've had in Vietnam so far. Ba is very (very) friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The place is steps from one of the most popular eateries on the island. Ba's tour was great too, and we were among others who'd paid more for the same tour. The "cherry on top" was that we'd booked for a particular night, paying in advance, but bad weather meant we were a day late for our reservation. We called Ba that night, he said, "No problem", and we had the same room with no money lost for the next night. Seriously, come to Ali Babas. Thanks again!

Happiest man on Cat Ba”
Mr. Ba must have the biggest smile on Cat Ba. He and his wife works hard to make everybody happy. The rooms are clean and when you get decent size rooms with AC which are clean for this prize it is definitely good value. What made the difference for us though was how forthcoming they were. We can definitely recommend the $20 boat tour Mr Ba arranges, which include visit to Monkey Island, kayakking in Ha Long Bay and some swimming. The food is simple, good prices though.

hotel ok, tour outstanding, hosts excellent. ”
We arrived during a busy time and didn't get a room with sea views. We had a back room which was very large with two double beds. The room was very clean but plain. We had to ask for a table and second chair. For the price though it was fine. The day tour was superb though, and we highly recommend it. Mr. Baba is an excellent host, the boat was quiet and spacious, the food amazing, and the itinerary perfect. We had a fantastic day!

Great stay. We went on the day trip, and it was a lot of fun. Overall we had a great time, and it was amazing value for the money. I'd say here again the next time I visited Cat Ba.

super value for the money ”
Don't expect to have the best bed nor the best TV. But for the cheap price we pay we had a perfect locating, sea view and great comfort!! They provide anything you need! Take a fast shower, hot water is not forever! The staff is super nice and helps. Restaurant is tasty and good price. We hardly recommend it.

Pleasantly surprised”
This place is great value for money. The location is great, right on the ocean front with sea views from most rooms. The staff were friendly and always around and their English was good enough. The rooms were clean although a little outdated. Be warned that there isn't a lift so you have to climb a lot of stairs. We extended our stay for an extra night and would recommend to other budget travellers.

Great budget hotel”
This hotel is a great budget hotel with amazing views over the harbour. We got caught in a storm (there was no power for the whole island) but the owner did everything in his power to keep the hotel running and pleasant for everyone. The boat trip organised by the hotel was probably one of the highlights of our whole trip! Great hotel!

Good Value, Great Location!”
The hotel itself is a bit run down, but you cannot beat the value or the location. Upgrade to the sea view rooms. Limited English with the staff/family that runs it, but super friendly and very helpful. I would stay here again.

Not what the original booking implied”
I booked for Alibaba's hotel, but the address I was given was for Trang Anh. Needless to say, I was confused. The pictures for the room were nothing like the actual. I had two beds, one was a spring mattress where you could feel every spring, the other was like a mattress board. I slept on the board. If you like sleeping on hard surfaces, it's fine. There were tiny ants in my room when I got there, which they then sprayed. Though the tiny ants were back a few at a time the following days. The hot water is only for a few hours in the morning and in the evening. And it doesn't last very long. The people are friendly though and they have cheap prices on tours. I didn't mind staying there, but it's definitely a little run down.

What a great vie from the room 😁 hotel is great for the price. Only the mattress were bad : one dead, one hard. But the staff is smiley and helpful, with good prices on buses and day trip. Couldn't try the restaurant unfortunately.

Excellent hotel!”
We stayed here two nights. The value was excellent. I could not believe that for only $7/night we had a private room for two with a bathroom. The window in the room opened to the corridor, but it was bright and near a second window that opened to the outside so air circulation was good. The room was otherwise very comfortable. Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly - they helped us book a fab kayaking tour of Lan Ha Bay. I absolutely recommend this hotel and would stay here again!

clean and great hospitality for money”
Great value stay for us. Super friendly owner who was very helpful. Wifi was strong in some rooms but weaker in others, so we moved rooms to be closer. Located 5 min walk from pier with plenty of restaurants along the way. Have high floors with great views if you're interested in that. Would recommend and stay again!

Great Stay”
We had a great stay at Ali BaBa's! The room was very clean and we had an fantastic view over the bay. The location is perfect, close to everything - bus station, restaurants, tour operators. We personally didn't go on Ali Baba's tour, but we only heard good things about it, wished we would have gone! Motorcycle rental also available.

I thought the price was to good to be true. Got here, for what I paid I am perfectly happy. They have a restaurant, it is perfectly situated right on the scenic bay, with a lovely view, for what I paid it exceeded my expectations. I will be back.

Nice stay at Ali Babas hotel”
The good thing about the hotel is a nice view of the harbour (if you are at a high floor). But then you have to climb stairs (we had a room at 5th floor). The hotel is cheap but it was a bit cold in the room (no heating). The host Ali was very helpful. He arranged for us a day trip to Ha Long Bay.

When we arrived the owner invited us to drink some tea, which was super nice. The whole family is very welcoming and just lovely. We really enjoyed our stay, because the rooms are super clean, the breakfast includes everything you could asked for and they help you out, whenever you have a question. Our favorite hotel in Vietnam so far.

This hotel is well located. The room is spacious and clean. The only charm of our room though was the balcony with the amazing view. Other than that, we've had much nicer and more modern rooms for that price. The bathroom is very cramped and smells humidity. There are really bad smells in the lobby and in the tiny elevator. The owner is very nice! All in all, it's a good choice...just a bit overpriced for what you get.
