Go for it! Totally worth the trip!”
It is a lot of trouble to get to Cat Ba town, and only slightly more to get to Whisper Nature Bungalows. Do it! Cat Ba town is lively and touristy. If this isn't your thing, then go to Whisper Nature. If you want peace and quiet and nature, you will be very happy there. Some reviews complained about the cost of getting from Cat Ba to Viet Hai village (where Whisper Nature is). It cost us 200,000 VND each (about $10 USD), which seems expensive for Vietnam, but it was a 30-45 minute boat ride through the beautiful scenery which is part of the reason why you came. Instead of paying for a tour boat, we got transported to and from Viet Hai. The bungalows are very comfortable. We used the mosquito net, but it didn't seem like we needed it. The AC worked perfectly. There is a low shelf around the walls of the room which is quite nice for putting all your stuff on. We stayed 3 nights and were very happy. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. They cater to your tastes/preferences: vegetarian, no pork, etc. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The bicycles were free and plentiful. Each day we biked down to the dock for a nice swim.

Escape the rat-race”
Viet Bungalows (also trading as Whisper of Nature/Whispering Nature) is an awesome gem tucked away in a remote part of Cat Ba Island. There are only a handfull of small bungalows, so it is a perfect place to relax and escape the crowds and noise! Staff are friendly, speak good english and are great at organising day trips, local guides and kayak hire. We ate at the open-air bar/restaurant most nights and enjoyed the 'fixed menu' which is a selection of share plates/local dishes with rice and soup that changed each night. We also ate at some of the local village places without hassle. Make the effort to hire a guide and head into the National Park, it is an amazing place filled with jungle and rocky outcrops... and wildlife, including one of the worlds rarest monkeys the Cat Ba Langur! Definately the place to stay on Cat Ba, don;t waste your time or money staying in Cat Ba Town... it is a horrible money sucking pit!

Quiet and secluded. Great for 2 day get away!”
We enjoyed our stay at Whisper Nature. The staff who interacted with us were all very friendly and the couple who do the cooking spoke English very well. They also gave us good advice about the hiking trails and told us some about the history of the area. Getting from Hanoi to Cat Ba Town took 3 buses and a boat, quite an ordeal. But the trip from Beo harbor to the Viet Hai port was very nice. And the bike trip from the harbor to the resort was beautiful! I would recommend Whisper Nature to anyone who likes being far off the beaten path and enjoys a very simple but clean accommodations.

Small piece of heaven on Cat Ba Island”
This place was such a relief after spent some weeks travelling around big city's (Bejing,Xian,Shanghai etc.). So quiet and pleasant surrounding. Easy to arrange different tours with the staff example swimming in Halong Bay, trekking, kayaking etc. The food was excellent. The only thing that really needs improvement is the thing of actually get there. In our opinion the easiest way to actually get here is either when taking the cruise from Bai Chai jump off at Viet Hai Harbour and then take the motorbikes from there to the Bungalows or you take the tour-boat/hydrofoil to Cat Ba Town then motorbike to the harbour and get one of the small boats to drop you at Viet Hai Harbour. We took the second option and got away with $25 for 3 people and all arranged with one of the local travel agencies in Cat Ba Town. We will come back. We all loved it...

Simple bungalows in a spectaular setting”
This is my second stay at Whisper Nature Bungalows - we enjoyed the first visit so much! It is an adventure to get here on local buses and boats, and a wonderful way to spend time in the Halong Bay area. Once you reach the boat ramp, you cycle 4 kms through the National Park to arrive at Viet Hai village, and the bungalows. The staff are excellent, the food is very good and plentiful, and the rooms comfortable. It is al very simple, and the most beautiful location, with mountains and rice paddies all around. Thoroughly recommend it.

Wonderful getaway with amazing surroundings”
Whisper nature bungalow was a wonderful getaway. Although it took a ferry to Cat ba, a motobike to Ben beo harbour, a fishing boat to Viet Hai and a bike to the bungalow, it was without a doubt worth it!! Just make sure to stay at least 2 nights so you can at least do one hike and have swims in the creek. The breakfast and lunch were pretty bad but the dinner was the best I've had in Vietnam and the cook was understanding of my vegan ways (dinner was 140VND each).

Real Vietnam...requires a little work to get to”
beautiful setting with some good walking. Excellent food if a bit pricey, but not many options in the village of 200. There is though and it is good as well. Very friendly staff. They have guided walks, kayaking, boats for hire, but all our pretty expensive compared to the rest of Vietnam. The one thing they don't tell you on agoda is what it takes to get there. Getting to Cat Ba town is quite straightforward. After that is where you need to know the details ahea. From town you need a moto to the harbor and then to hire a boat for a 30 min. ride to the another harbor along with a entrance ticket. When you arrive in the harbor they meet you to pick up your luggage but you will have to bicycle 6km to the bungalows. A great experience and an amazingly beautiful boat ride. Felt unsure as we went though, wondering if you were actually going to the right place. Well worth it in the end for some peace and quiet.

Great, adventurous experience”
It was an adventure reaching the hotel which is located within a 45min boat trip from Cat Ba City - called Viet Hoi. Don't go on your own as it would cost a fortune, the hotel owner will send a boat to pick you up which is so much cheaper! Once you have reached Viet Hoi you will be picked up but you need to cycle to the village which is an amazing experience! Beautiful landscape, surrounded by mountains and Forrest. Very peaceful and quite and far off the touristic area of Ha Long Bay. Try to negotiate the offered trips as they are a little over prized, especially the kayak trip! Overall the best experience, I very much recommend this hotel!

Great getaway from all the hustle on your travels”
I definitely agree with all the positive reviews here. We haven't found anything so disturbing to not be happy with this accommodation. You must enjoy all the little things like for example the boat ride to Viet Hai harbour, that short bicycle trip or for example the calmness of the place which is in the middle of beautiful nature. Some mosquitos or spiders shouldn't make you feel discomfort , it's just the part of it. The bed has mosquito net so you're protected the whole night. Breakfast might be a bit larger because one pancake is simply not enough but hey, you can bring your own fruits or biscuits. You have a WiFi there so you can work or read or just hike in the park. We also loved the personal, they were all very nice, friendly and most importantly easy going. We are 25 y.o. couple who really enjoyed the stay.

Very expensive tourist trap”
The bungalows itself are fine and located in a beautiful valley between hill ridges. The food at the hotel is good. However, the costs of our stay were more than 2x higher than just the booking fee - beware! 600.000 VND for a private (45 min.) ferry to Viet Hai, or you must take the common ferry which at the weekends runs only once a day at 11AM. Yes, the information on the Agoda website is inaccurate. The situation at the ferry departure point is very chaotic and if it weren't for our Vietnamese traveling companions we could have easily been ripped off, since there are no signs justifying the costs or tickets you need or don't need. A ticket that allows a foreigner to enter Viet Hai: 30.000 VND. Dining at the hotel: 140.000 VND. There's only one other restaurant in Viet Hai according to the hotel manager, but in this remote place it seems unlikely anyone will venture out to find it, so add these costs to your stay. Transport by electric vehicle from the ferry to the hotel and vice versa: 50.000 VND each. There isn't a beach on Viet Hai. I would recommend this hotel, but not to the budget traveler or to people who want to spend only one night here. Two nights is perfect and expect to pay western prices in Viet Hai and Cat Ba.

Friendly people in beautiful location ”
This was the most fantastic way to see Halong Bay, and Cat Ba Island - away from the tourist crowds, yet with comfort and local guides and support. Resort Manager was so welcoming and helpful in ensuring an interesting set of activities. Food was excellent, rooms were very comfortable, and great value for a modest budget. But it was the attentive yet not intrusive service and support from all the staff that made it a special few days. We even got to see Cat Ba Langurs in the wild!!! from the resort!

nice hotel with lovely people, but remote”
a nice bungalow in depth of Cat Ba Island, far away from city, noise, differ from the hotel in Cat Ba town. Very natural village, fresh air, lovely nice people, specially Mr. in village who speaks Cantonese, make us feel at home. Their home-made meal is delicious. But one thing, hotel better provide information of traffic route, as detail as possible, for those solo traveler, or will make them feel are you travelling or risking.

Peaceful and beautiful setting”
We booked this accommodation for a group of friends who wanted to get into the countryside, be in Halong Bay and not be on a tour. It was perfect! It was an adventure getting there - bus to Haiphong City, fast ferry and bus to Cat Ba Town, taxi to Beo Harbour, then a small wooden boat to next pier, where we were met by Mr Doan, manager. He took our backpacks on his motor bike while we cycled through beautiful countryside to the bungalows. Each bungalow was separate, and while basic, was clean and comfortable. Staff arranged a tour for us - a wonderful day in Halong Bay, with kayaking, swimming and fresh seafood lunch. I would go back again and thoroughly recommend this quiet, beautiful and relaxing place. Staff were friendly and helpful, and price is very reasonable.

Peaceful place near Halong Bay”
The bungalows were in a calm and peaceful valley in the center of the island, away from the chaos of Cat Ba town. The staff organized a lovely day tour of Halong Bay for us and we had such relaxing days spent hiking, biking, and kayaking in the unbelieveable surroundings. I would highly recommend staying here!

a great place to get away”
It is a great place to get away and enjoy the local village life - we loved bike riding on the one and only road (in excellent condition) with no traffic and very safe for kids. We loved the village and all the puppies and kittens to play with. We certainly didn't love the bungalow itself as it felt like being locked up in a concrete box - not the typical bungalow you would imagine. The isolation of the place is wonderful for a short time only, as there is not much to do and the food options are very limited - it's great to get back to civilization - two days was enough for us (we also stayed elsewhere on Cat Ba island and did all that's to do there).

Wonderful family in a wondrous location”
it's a big adventure to get to the bungalows -- the journey is the destination. once you're there, you just cool out and get comfortable. not much to do which was fine with me. the most disturbing aspect is how polluted and scary looking halong and long ha bays are. there seems to be no regulation over dumping everything into the water. i was looking forward to kayaking and swimming in the bay but the boat trips around the island convinced me it would be disgusting and a health risk. i worry that this extraordinary natural resource will be destroyed and the people living in that area will no longer be able to make a living as no tourists will show up.

A quiet retreat from frenetic cities ”
Although it has much to offer, Tripadvisor's claim that Whisper Nature is Cat Ba's "#2 hotel" seems a gross misrepresentation. We did a little research beforehand (obviously not enough) and when reading about "valet parking" on a website imagined we could take a taxi there. Instead we needed a taxi, a boat and a convoy of motor cycles to transport us and all our luggage. The journey itself was quite fun and the boat trip wonderful, but had we known that it was a remote village set in a national park we would have been better prepared! It was quite an experience, however, and there is much to commend the venue if you're into trekking/nature. Visitors should be aware, there is no heating available. We visited in February and, despite 5 layers of clothing (including thermals), could not get warm. On returning to Cat Ba town we stayed in the "#1 hotel" - Cat Ba Sunrise Resort, in a grand deluxe room which provided welcome warmth, luxury and stunning, unspoilt views of the water.

Brief stay in wilderness with caring staff/guests.”
We would recommend the whisper of nature bungalow to anyone interested in staying in an off the beaten path place. It was difficult to get here and there were no food options other than the hotel but it was beautiful and worth it for us. The staff was friendly and helpful and helped us book a day trip to halong bay - however it was more expensive because of the remoteness of our hotel. Overall a great experience for those with the time and spirit to adventure!

Amazing ”
This was a wonderful place to stay! It’s a bit of a boat ride from Cat Ba city but well worth it if you’re looking for a peaceful retreat. It was clean beyond belief. The food was the best I had in Vietnam. The owners were very accommodating. We didn’t want to bicycle into town so they had a car pick us up from the harbor. They even saved us money on our trip back to Hanoi. The owner directed us to a couple of hikes close by with breathtaking views!
