We booked this hotel because it had good reviews, it’s a nice new hotel (ignore if you’re reading this after 2021) and if you like IKEA you will like this hotel, the staff are very friendly, speak good English and can assist with taxis etc. The hotel is situated just outside the old town and a few minutes walk to the local fresh food market with street food yat night was lovely, the Sushi lady was amazing at just over 10p a piece, unbelievable, it’s a brisk walk to the night market or about 100 baht for a tuk tuk, the street food is as good as the street food in the night market but slightly more ‘local’, if you fancy a lovely foot massage the girls in the parlour between the hotel and market were very good, again no frills but quality of massage spot on. For a coeliac the breakfast was very good, obviously as all over Thailand no bread it a nice variety of food. Free bottled water, fruit and a snack jar (seemingly gf as rice) is available all day, coffee machine and hot water for tea and hot chocolate also on hand in reception area 24/7, this is very nice but if you are in your room and fancy a hot drink you need to pop down to reception, maybe we could have asked for a kettle? There was no double room available when we booked the twin, and we asked if we could have one prior to arrival, they had put the two bed together and it created a massive larger than king of king beds! Don’t expect to a nice view but you’ll get a clean fresh room very good for a short stay in the city.

I have been travelling to Chiang Mai since the mid-eighties and staying here on out once a year since 2006. The standard rooms are big and the beds are comfortable. The pool is a huge bonus, for a hotel in this price range. Breakfast is always interesting, with a good selection of Thai and non-Thai dishes, although the juices are always too sweet and the coffee undrinkable! The staff are always willing to help and some of the older staff welcome me 'home' each time I arrive. The place may be a little tired, but then, so am I. It doesn't claim to be a five star hotel, but it lives up to what it does claim to be. Clean, comfortable and well located away from the Night Market (a definite plus in my opinion!) and right by the Wu Lai Walking Street market on Saturday evening. Great little night market up near the moat and the morning market down the road is kind of fun too.

We are amazed by this beautiful hotel. The rooms are brand new and really stylish. Really nice pool and facilities too. They had a great breakfast and offered fruits, coffee, tea and cooled water for free all day long. The staff was just amazing - always helpful, super friendly and very welcoming. Best hotel staff I've ever met. I highly recommend this hostel when staying at Chiang Mai. Even though the surrounding area is not that great, you get everywhere easily and quiet cheap by TukTuk. I reckon one of the best hotels in Chiang Mai for an affordable price. We'll definitely come back!

The front desk staff is terrific Pop, Jenny and Joy are fantastic. They really take care of the guests and want you to have a great time. Jenny made sure I had a sweater with me when visiting the highest peak of Thailand and she helped me rearrange my tour when the provider canceled without notice. (Note: the tourist information center was responsible not the hotel). The hotel staff is really friendly Icezy made me smile every morning when I went to breakfast. The housekeeping staff always say hello. Even when you're not at the hotel if they see you nearby. They are very genuine. The location is great you're steps from the walking street and 20 minutes walk from the bazaar. You can easily get a red cab and you can walk from most places with ease. I enjoyed my stay very much and hope to return soon. I certainly will book again at the Golden Bell. I felt very safe traveling alone and I honestly felt welcome every time I entered the building no matter what time of day. The room was very spacious and clean. I felt sad to leave and can't wait to come back.

Spent 3 nights here for the first time @Chiang Mai, Hotel is easy-decorate feel warm and quiet. Room is clean and well-care than expected. Hotel locate near Wua-Lai Saturday walking street, otherwise you may need a car for traveling.

Location is superb as in Wia Lai walking street. Hotel offer Japanese set as a breakfast and the important thing that hotel also provide onzen separated by men and women

Best experience in Chiang Mai. The staff of hotel are extraordinary nice. They prepared different style of breakfast every day and helped us to cut the fruit. The room is tidy with a medium yard. We took a lots of photos in the outside garden. BEAUTIFUL!! If you are considering about this hotel, you shouldn't miss it!

This is the second time I've stayed at Baan Ratchiangsen and it lived up to all my expectations. The staff is great, they are friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and comfortable. I love the location, a short walk to the Old City and a short walk to Wau Lai Road but on a quiet residential street so you can be sure you'll get a good night's sleep. Initially we had a little difficulty with the Wi-Fi but they gave us a router to put in our room and the problem was completely solved. The pool is small but wonderful and the little wall garden makes it incredibly inviting. I am already looking forward to my third stay at their little gem of a hotel!

This hotel is a little gem with a lot of character. The rooms are just perfect and the whole area in the hotel is very nice arranged with a pool in the yard. We can just say the best about this hotel and our stay here. We first booked 2 nights and then wanted more, but it was full. So we had to change the hotel for a few nights until we could return. And we returned without any doubt. I think that says it all. 10/10 points

Smith Residence provides basic rooms -- no fancy furnishings or elaborate decorations -- but it's extremely clean, the hotel staff are great, they can help with any problem. The pool on the roof is a great place to cool down on the hot days. Downstairs has a little shop for some basic necessities and the hotel restaurant is decent. Location is good, especially for the Saturday Night Market on the road next door (Wua Lai). They have a laundry service too. It's not fancy, but it's very comfortable and clean.

Good service from hotel's staff. but the door it's hard to open and close (room no.402) it's unsmooth and too much force to open. The hotel located on the interchange to Chiang Mai gate, outdoor food zone, Wua Lai working street.

This is a big statement but for me this was the best place I have ever stayed in 20 years of travel in SE Asia. I just loved the old colonial style architecture and the beautiful deep dark Burmese teak and red (From the beetle nut colour). Its a good 15-20 mins walk to main road but was no problem as you can get a Tuk-Tuk for about 20B but late at night from Night Bazzar it will be 100B. I just loved the ambience of the place, the rooms were exquisite, clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with good coffee. There are also a couple of very friendly adorable cats running around. Good nights sleep and good relax at end of the day. Bathroom is large with huge shower head. I cant wait for my next visit to Chiang Mai I will stay here for sure thanks Tri Yaan Na Ros. This is truly a beautiful boutique hotel with excellent value for money and the atmosphere of yesteryear.

First, great decoration, comfortable bed and a cute balcony. Secondly, I love breakfast very much! Thirdly, beautiful manager offered much useful information for me. And I changed my schedule suddenly and sport shoes was needed urgently. A pair of beautiful handmake sport shoes was found by the help of friendly house keeper Toto when it was 10:30pm. It was one of best accomodation experience ever for me.

It's different from big hotels or resorts, the boss just like making friends in this guesthouse. If you do not mind being a kind neighbors just choose this place. Houses are newly decorated, a/c are powerful and each room get a balcony. Smoking and eating smelly food are forbidden, but you can do this in the courtyard or in the balcony. No mosquito at all. There's a kitchen on the second floor, free coffee and tea, bread and biscuits, and fruit are available. You can use the microwave to cook simple food. Besides the boss Will do everything they can just to help and never make money. In one word, this will be the best way to know about Chiangmai

The first thing you'll notice about this Home Stay is the warm welcome from Mr. Lek, and the visit continues that way. This is not a standard hotel, it's a home and the family make you feel at home. Baanlek Home Stay has about 14 rooms over two levels. Rooms are small and functional - a large bed, a TV, Fridge, working desk, separate shower/toilet etc. Rooms are clean and very safe. Free Wi-fi with a good signal is available. Outside the rooms is a garden and common area used for eating breakfast, having coffee, meeting other guests etc. Each night I came back I found Mr. Lek there who offered me cold drinks/beer etc. Very, very friendly. Location wise, it's a 5-10 minute walk to the old city wall and the market. It's a 2 minute walk to "Documentary Arts Asia" gallery (movies screening every Monday and Thursday). The street is very quiet so no problem getting a good night sleep. It's also close to the airport and Mr. Lek will organize an airport pickup and dropoff for you. In summary, if you're not after a 5-star hotel but want to stay in a friendly guesthouse then this is the place for you. I highly recommend it.

This was a very nice place to stay, with helpful staff, good location walking distance to Chiang Mai gate for food, clean and comfortable, and great breakfast. The rooms all have different decorations, and I wish we could pick from the website. The first room we got (blue room, kid-style decoration) was not my style, but we could change easily and all the other rooms I saw looked interesting. We would stay here again.

My first impression of this place is the room. It is almost like a converted container with large sliding glass door covering all the front. It allows full sunlight in. You can close the curtain for your privacy. The room itself is quite small but the space is cleverly used with foldable desks from the wall. Downstair is a small restaurant, Guu, specialised in roti. The food is quite nice for its value. The hotel is just few minutes walk to the centre of the Old City and very near to the Saturday market on Wua Lai Street.

When I arrived late at night, the front desk thought we have not paid via Agoda. The bill she showed me said 2,500 ish Baht for 2 nights for a triple room. You do the math. But we were too tired to argue. As for the room, very spacious and clean. A free mini bar with drinks and snacks. Very thoughtful! The only strange thing is that the bathroom is outside the bedroom, a aisle away. Location is great! Would be better if there is a parking lot instead of street parking.

Good basic clean facilities, great for the money. Good location, scooters available for rent cheap, book tours, good breakfast . The best part of the hostel is the owners and staff. They are amazing! So welcoming and helpful, they make you feel like part of the family. 100% would return :)

Wua Lai Rd. is Saturday Market Street and Tree Residence is just meters away. It's also near Chiang Mai Gate where lots of food stalls are opertated at night. However, it's quiet during night and serenity in the day. The small but green-filled garden also makes people feel peace and vitality. There's even dry cloths area in the corner of the corridor. Only if is teakettle available in the room, it will be better.

during songkran (thailand's new year celebration) i stayed in romena with 5 friends. we are all in our early 20s and this hotel was perfect for us. the concierge spoke better english then did some of the 4 star hotel's in bangkok. they were extremely helpful in organizing a van to take us to a day spa and telling us how to take public transportation to get to some of the sights in chang mai. the only downside of our stay was the breakfast buffet which was the same all three days and the soup and noodle dish both had bugs inside.

If sleep isn't important to you then this is the hotel for you. It's the noisiest hotel I've ever stayed in. Our air conditioning kept making loud banging/cracking noises intermittently during the first night and seemed to be blowing out warm air, regardless of which setting we put it on. We were also woken multiple times by the people above us scraping chairs across the floor and the banging of other hotel room doors. We changed rooms to the top floor - the aircon problem stopped for 2 nights but reemerged again and kept us up for the last 2 nights of our trip. Still woken by banging of other rooms. Was not restful and felt exhausted. Other than this, good breakfast, lovely pool, ideal location, clean hotel and staff did try their best to help us but the noise was beyond their control really. The hotel really need to fit some door hinges to make the doors close quietly so they don't slam shut. They also need to get the aircon units looked at ASAP.

Overall, very enjoyable. The room was clean, and after spending much more on hotel rooms with a fraction of the amenities we were very pleasantly surprised: - the room had air con, a television, balcony, and fridge - two of which are usually sacrificed when you pay as little as we did. The staff were very friendly and booked a cooking course for us. The downstairs has a lot of seating options as well as a pool. The only drawback was a sulphur/egg smell that eminated from the water when it was first turned on, but after running for a few seconds it would disperse. All in all highly recommended.

Every Saturday nightmarket along the street of the hotel.rooms are spacious.tv channels are badly adjusted and no English channels available.

Was a nice place. Staff was friendly and helpful. Booked last minute and ended up being a good deal and pleasant stay. The room was nice, a bit of old furniture but it was ok. The power pressure was low as we were one the second floor but it was still acceptable. The overall hotel is antique and looks a bit old, but the environment was relaxing and calm, so it was nice. The location is perfect, quiet neighborhood, close to the night markets and day markets in the old city and not too far from temples and the weekend markets. Overall stay was good.

Such a great hotel! The pool was amazing, great sun-beds and frangipanis all around it. Bed was super comfy, clean fluffy towels, spacious room with a cupboard and bedside tables. Beautiful view of the mountain (and sunset) from the West side. Didn't eat in restaurant but there's some really good, cheap places a few minutes away.

I stayed at absolute house for 3 nights, and had a wonderful time! The rooms are clean, the staff are super cool and helpful (shout-out to Flame, who went out of his way to help me get to Phu Chi Fa from Chiang Mai, awesome dude), a chill vibe, I met many nice people there (when you’re traveling alone, that’s always a plus), and also booked a neat tour and a cooking class through the hostel. Got a lot of recommendations on where to eat, to go and what to see, so that was awesome as well! Would definitely stay here again :)

Near the city and relax. I met here a nice people. For me all right. The best thing is the price. You can pay a little more for an other hotels or hostels, but for this price I think is the best option in Chiang Mai.
