At 57 years old, I wondered if this was a good stay. Certainly was. Only a few 100 meters from the railway station. Arrived at Midnight. Check-in easy. Rooms 100% clean. With cubicle toilet and separate shower in the room. 3 double bunks. Slept like a Baby. Amazing choice for €34.

Great staff and location”
The location is unmatched, it's directly across the central train station. The staff were quite nice and accommodating. I would recommend this especially for the bathrooms, as they are the individual use kind, instead of the usual hostel bathroom with stalls and cubicles. There are two bathrooms that can be used, first are the more private ones inside the dorm rooms, these are waaay too small and almost feel like the ones in airplanes; the second are the shared one accessible from the hallway, these are much nicer as they are more spacious and still provide privacy.

We only have 1 day in Hamburg and it was a good choice to stay in Generator. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were lucky they were able to accommodate us early. Room we got was cozy, bed was really nice. Really love the hair and body wash , it was black tea if I remember correctly. Shower and comfort room ok. Just a bit noisy at night but that's because of the other guests. Really close to the train station and tourist spots.

A best option for a short hop-in in Hamburg”
The location was literally in front of the Main central station and the flixbus terminal which is near the city centre. They are plenty of thing to do at the bar, the lobby is also nice.

Great value for the location next to the station and where everything is. Very walkable to most of the attractions. The private twin bed room was perfect and has a great view of the city. Bathroom on the small side and the shower head was meh. But overall, everything worked well.

You get what you pay for”
Generator tends to be the cheapest hostel with ratings above dubious level. For the money, you get a sufficiently clean room. The toilet and shower in the rooms are glorified construction site toilet booths. There is one larger bathroom for each sex on every floor. There are not many amenities like common rooms, and no kitchen! You pay little and get a decent place to sleep, but nothing else. The room was quiet at night, but there is no aircon, and the windows can not be fully opened. For me, sleeping at night with approx 28 degrees outside was fine, but if you are sensitive about temperature while sleeping, look for another hostel. I would recommend the hostel for up to three nights if you just need a place to sleep and a central location is important for you. Otherwise, I would spend a bit more

I was there only for a night to catch my next bus in the next day. The staff was very friendly and the check-in process was fast and convenient. the room was nice although i see a lot of space for improvement in terms of cleanliness but i had an enjoyable night sleeping there. The location is my best reason to coming back, it really close to the city, ZOB and Hauptbahnhof. It really suits me as an express traveler.

Everything is nice there. You can have online check in and online check out, which saved some time. The location is great, just between train station and the bus station. But it’s a but noisy at night. The facilities in the room are nice, only the toilet and bathroom are a little bit small. You can buy drinks and some food there, cozy commen area and staff are nice.

As I actually only needed a room to stay, I decided to get a private room. It was small, but good enough. Bathroom was also pretty small but good enough for me (mind you a heavier person might have trouble taking a shower). The location is very near the main train station of Hamburg so that's a very huge plus. Most of the starships are in walking distance

Kept my expectation low”
The reception was amazingly friendly so was all other staff. Vibrant neighborhood- which you will hate or embrace. You can’t lice more central than here. I had a double room on the 4th floor with a nice view. The rooms have everything you need except one thing. Whoever developed and purchased those laughable bathroom cubicles-needs to be forced out of his job. Unsuitable for normal grown western people. There are public bathrooms on each floor and they are a better option but to use your own. Here are the minus points for this otherwise decent choice in central.
