Exceptional”

Perfect location, can walk the street of sanenzaka and experience old kyoto. Temples are near each other and a beautiful garden is just around the corner. Sleeping on the tatami floor was not unconfortable at all.

Lovely ryokan in the Gion district”

Excellent hotel overall. The only reason for a 4-star rating on facilities was because of the lack of an onsen. Otherwise an excellent hotel. VERY clean. Staff is very friendly and the location is conveniently located between Kiyomizu Dera (temple) and the Gion district.

Great traditional ryokan stay, however WiFi is not as great as you would imagine it to be. If they could improve WiFi coverage will be great.

Outdated with no facilities ”

Outdated bathrooms, kind of smelly as well. No real facilities, the onsen was under repair when we were there. AC/heater made squeaking noise the whole night. Staff was not accommodating. We asked for the futon to be laid out so that we could take a nap and they said no, they would only do it after we left. So we just ended up making up the futons ourselves.

Great services with smile”

Good customer services, clean environment, has a public bath

When we arrived at the hotel, the staffs greet us with smiles. Then they guided us to our room and show us the surrounding of the hotel. The second night when we returned to hotel, we are pleased to see that all our rooms had been cleaned. They changed the futons and put everything in the room back to their original position. In addition, there is a public bath available to use. It was an interesting experience. In short, we are happy and feel comfortable staying in Gion Ryokan Karaku Hotel.

Fantastic location, service”

We had a nice stay at this ryokan. We couldn't ask for a better location, just a couple of minutes walk from one of the main streets of Kyoto and also from a lovely shrine. The service at the ryokan was also kind and generous. I wish the bathrooms were a bit bigger, but alas they are probably typical of what you find on Japan.

Lovely Japanese Style Hotel”

Public bath, room service and great service from the staffs

The traditional Japanese style room left a great impression to us and the staffs are all very polite. When requested, they were very kind to show us the sightseeing route around Kyoto and with full information regarding the transport and location. Daily necessities such as tooth brush and toothpaste, towel and shampoo etc are all provided. Every day they will refill those used items and clean the room when we were out. So we have a nice and clean room everyday when we went back to the hotel. In short, it was a fantastic and enjoyable Japanese Style Hotel.

Nice and friendly staffs”

best location

The hotel is the right choice if you are going to visit Gion, Shijo Dori, Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The room size is large compares with other hotel in the same area. The hotel is about 10mins away from the Gion Shijo station. So it is better to take the bus between the stations, attractions and the hotel.

Lovely Ryokan and service with a smile”

Location, traditional japanese accomodation, cleanliness, amenities, friendliness of staff

I really loved this place for its traditional japanese appeal and location in gion. The only thing I did not care for, which is common in japan, was the smoking in the lobby. I am a non-smoker.

Super convenient location ”

English speaking, location, Japanese public bath

The hotel staff was super gracious and they did their best to accommodate us. The Japanese beds were very comfortable and the room size was larger that I expected. Love the large public bath, definitely give it a try. The convenient location is super wonderful, we were able to access all the lovely spots by Godai Ji and Kiyomizu with ease.

Nice ryokan in heart of Gion”

Karaku is within walking distance to almost all the places of interest in Gion. The ryokan has modern amenities. The staff are helpful with directions etc.

We enjoyed our stay very much. It was comfortable and clean. Only missing item is the onsen.

Great Location”

Once you get the hang of the place in terms of public transport, it was great - lots of sights, restaurants and shopping! The room is on the small side; would love to have a serviceable table/desk in the room. Clean, staff is polite and knowledgeable; breakfast is great! Would stay here again!

Nice but not a true Ryokan”

Gion is more of a hotel than a Ryokan. You can experience sleeping on the floor, but there are real Ryokan where you will dine in your own room.; a total relaxation experience. The majority of real Ryokan does allow young children. Gion has a dining room. The location is convenient.
