I had such a good time in Takayama. I love the idyllic and simple vibe of the place. The staff had been so helpful. One of them is Filipina, good English and very warm and welcoming with the guests. Just keep in mind that this is a guesthouse, so you must clean up after yourself and amenities and bathrooms are shared. They are lenient with how you use their facilities, you can leave your bags after checkout and cook in the kitchen freely. There is 7 eleven just across the street if you need anything.

It's just amazing. So much clean, a lot of space, common area amazing (you can even try yukata, a lot of boardgames, manga, and studio ghibli gadgets and stuff!). Very clean, big kitchen and lovely stuff. The best.

Value for money for Dormitory room that I stayed”
The guest house has all the facilities and appliances e.g. shower rooms, toilets, large living area, washing machines and in house coffee shop. The staffs are very friendly and willing to provide information to the guests. The dormitory room has lockers. The room is spacious. They also have bicycles for rent. The location is in a waling distance to the Takayama train station and other attractions.

Impressed for the second time staying here”
Second time staying here. The accommodation is clean, with an en-suite bathroom, towels, shampoo, and a hair dryer provided. Convenient location with a 7-11 nearby. I like the common area and kitchen where we can cook and socialize with others.

I traveled with mom and dad during New Year period. We stayed at the big room. It was very cozy and have lift. not far from the station. Most importantly this place and the owner make us feel at home. so impress and wanna revisit again.

Humble and feel like home”
Ouka Hotel Takayama is the best hotel we stayed so far in Japan. It is located quite convenient, about 10 min straight walk from Takayama Station, on the main road of Takayama. Right beside the hotel, there is Seven Eleven where you could buy snacks or quick grab breakfast. The first thing you notice is how it feels like home, when you enter the hotel, they provide a shoes rack to put on your shoes and change to their comfy slippers (not some cheap thin one). The receptionist, Mr.Manabu, speaks fluent English and very friendly, he give some helpful suggestion about where to go and visit in Takayama. There are also some information about Tourist attraction, place to eat (and how much it will cost) on their bulletin board. There are living room where you could interact with fellow traveller and also kitchen with free tea and coffee. We (3 male adults) stay in superior Japanese room with inside bathroom. The room is quite spacious with japanese tatami style and futon. There is also small balcony inside our room and the bathroom is completed with a bathtub. They also provide free earplug and comfy thick yukata, just in case if you need one. But the most interesting thing I found is a hand-written personal welcome note with my name on it. Very very nice touch and excellent personal service! They have washing machine and dryer for you to use (with small cost). I really recommend this hotel if you want to explore Takayama and Shirakawago. I definitely will stay again in Ouka Hotel Takayama.

Superclean place, great location, friendly staff”
What a cozy hostel.! It felt like home away from home! Spotlessly clean and warm. Good beds for a nice sleep. Location can't be better - less than 10mins away on foot from Takayama's train and bus stations, and some 20mins away from the old quarter. Great info on message boards what to see in Takayama, where to eat etc. Staff was friendly and helpful. Kitchen was big and with lots of utensils. Cooked our meals there several times. The only downside of Ouka are curtains and not entrance doors to rooms. It would be nicee to put at least some simple door. Overall great stay and would come again!

this guest house is very beautiful and quiet. best place to warm your cold day! i went to Hida on November, with 10 degree during the day, and 2 degree on the night. its cozy, quiet, and beautiful. you got 7 eleven by the next door. it also rent bikes for you to go cycling around the town, and feel the joyous of riding bike in a very beautiful town! the owner is very kind, you can ask or request her anything. if you seek place to stay on Takayama, this is definetly the very hotel for you!

Exceptional”
This hostel is pretty new with good facilities. We stayed in a 5 pax family and the room was large and clean. The shared bath rooms and toilets were clean and tidy. There were 4 bath rooms and you did not need to wait even you came in a group. You cannot imagine there was a lift in a hostel and no need to worry about bringing heavy luguagges. My family loved this hostel as there was a kitchen fully equipped with kitchenwares. We bought food and cooked here. But it took 10 minutes walk to the main street and was difficult in hot weather. The staff here could speak good english and easy to communicate. Overall, high price value and would stay in Ouka Guesthouse if come again.

Owner of this hotel must be very lucky for having great staff as they have a genuine yet professional approach in providing excellent customer service experience! Location is great as it is within walking distance of almost all the places you would like to pay a visit when in Takayama. btw. the whole hostel looks/smells very neat and well maintained which is a major plus.

Excellent place to stay and explore Takayama”
I spent 5 nights there in a single room. It was big enough for me to open my big suitcase (30kgs). The bed was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful, I was contacted to join a local party a few days before I arrive ! It's about 7-8 mins from the train station but even at night, it feels super safe and nice to walk to the guest house. You have access to 3 computers with internet and a lovely living room with piano, guitar and Studio Ghibli music in the background. Finally, there is 7-eleven just a few meters from the guest house.

Excellent”
AMAZING GUEST HOUSE! The staff is really friendly and nice. They accommodated when I arrived at midnight to check-in. They treated me to lunch and toured me around the town. You can rent a bike for 24 hours and use it to tour around the town. The supermarket can be biked for 10-15 mins to buy food. They have really nice kitchen and dining area to cook and eat. Overall, it's a very clean and spacious guest house. They also have computers that can be used by the guests. Definitely recommend and would stay again on my next visit!
