Excellent value and beautiful guesthouse ”
We stayed a couple of nights in Waraku-an in a private room. It was a really great stay - a very good size room with space for storage and a little table. The guest house itself is very friendly, with a nice communal area overlooking the beautiful garden, and free tea. The warming table in particular is very comfortable, particularly in January! The location is good, near some of the great sights on the eastern side of the city and well-served by buses. For a traditional machiya guesthouse this is great value - others we looked at were far more expensive. Would definitely recommend!

A traditional gem”
We stayed in a lot of westernised accommodation and I wanted my teenagers to experience a little bit of traditional Japan. We stayed her for 2 nights and loved it! It's located near many temples and we hired bikes at reception to get to most places. The receptionists speak English which helped enormously and they were incredibly helpful.

This is like visiting your grandma's house”
The house has this authentic Japanese house kind of feel, definitely worth a visit. Some of the positive sides: - Staffs are very informative & friendly. It has a guide book that gives you guide to the hostel surrounding and it also provides variety of goods that you can rent. - The bedding is very comfy and warm, heater & lighting also make the atmosphere real good - The living room & the garden is beyond compare The downsides: - The size of the room is quite packed for us three & our belongings. - Location near to bus stop but quite a walk from several popular places such as Yasaka Shrine & Gion area. - Since this is an old house, you have to maintain your voice even the way you walk as it leaves sound (the house were mainly made of wood).

Very good”
Although it is close to train station, the location cannot be said very good since it is not in the crowded areas of the city. After 8pm, it is difficult to find something to eat. The house is quite clean and in very old style. It it suitable for those who like feeling the old stuffs in Kyoto. The living room and the little garden inside the house is amazing.

Great place for bare bones Japanese experience”
I stayed in the Dormitory, which is a shared Tatami Room. It was a bit cramped and one of my roommates snored, but for the price this is not so bad. The rest of my stay was great-- the inn itself is beautiful and the staff were kind and helpful. The location was surprisingly pretty good! A lot of buses stop very near the inn. Also there is a sento maybe 10-15 minute walk away, which was a great surprise because I love that experience. Would highly recommend staying here if you are a solo traveler. I think they have other rooms for families etc.

Good hotel, friendly staffs, good service”
I stayed only for one night in this hotel. The location is good, about 5 minutes walk from the subway station Keihan line, Jingu-Marutamachi. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. The room is clean and the dormitory is nicely arranged to give comfort and privacy for every guest. The only complain that I have is that the room was too cold, the heater does not reach the end of the room, where my bed is located.

great place for culture exposure”
Need to walk around 15 mins to metro station, distance to nearest bus stop is around 10 mins Quiet surrounding environment, not really located in downtown, much like local community area. Old traditional Japanese style house with great furniture in hostel, not much restaurant found around the hostel but there is a supermarket nearby. Friendly staff, will offer home made style breakfast with payment of extra 4ooyen

Great ! Have a traditional Japan experience ”
Bed is comfortable, toilet is small but clean, and a little courtyard is perfect and romantic. The greatest disadvantage is there's no suitable seat and mirror for those who need to put on makeup.

BEST GUESTHOUSE FOR BUDGET TRAVELLER”
This is like the coolest hotel I've been during my Kansai visit, I will definitely choose this hotel first if I visit Kyoto again.. they have a very picturesque courtyard and the staff is very friendly, the entry is very tricky, so try to look for the Waraku-an sign with bicycles nearby...the computer provided itself was a godsend, since I can transfer pictures in pend rive .. nighttime is very relaxing and if you're Muslim there's a halal restaurant nearby (Arash kitchen) plus you can also chill at jazz bar nearby called Yamatoya bar...The bus also stop exactly around the guesthouse...the bicycle rental on the other hand is very convenient around 1000 yen per day which I took everywhere around Kyoto imperial palace and Sannenzeka ... I really love the traditional room they have ... Thanks every staff in this guesthouse , you all are so great
