Good option in a town with limited hotels”
Takayama unfortunately does not have too many good hotels. Lots of ryokan and guest houses, but for a good western-style hotel in town, then so far the Hida Plaza gets my vote. (I've worked my way through most of them - avoiding the super tiny rooms of the business hotel chains.) Decor is a bit dated and the breakfast buffet could use some work, but the rooms are comfortable (windows that open), and the rooms I booked my travelling group (western/Japanese style) although much more expensive than a basic twin or double, they liked. Would I stay here again? Yes. For my business I have another eight bookings for autumn.

Good”
Hotel is within walking distance from JR station. Good hotel, clean, friendly, good public bath. Enjoyable stay in a town with many places of interests and shops. The japanese restaurant in the hotel is reasonably priced, better than dining at other restaurants in takayama town. Reservation is recommended to avoid disappointment.

Relaxing Onsens after a days walking”
About 500m from the JR station/ bus station and on the same street, it is easy find. It's a modern hotel with the main block 9 stories high. There are Onsens on the 9th floor and roof and in the basement. These are an excellent way to relax after a day exploring. You can buy a bus pass for two days travel into the Alps and this allows travel as far as the famous rope way cable car which is definitely worth a visit. Takayama way quiet when we were there in October but that may be because it is out of season, after summer and before the winter skiing starts. Lots of places to explore to eat out and well marked walking routes around the city.

Exceptional”
Good location for walking to train station/bus terminal, and other areas in Takayama. Staff great. Hotel room a little outdated but comfortable and clean with room to move. Male and female baths looked ok, but didn't try personally.

Exceptional”
I booked a Japanese tatami style bedroom with 6 futons. The room is very spacious with cozy corner to pour your tea before exploring town. The main spot is within walking reach & it's like 5 minutes walk from JR/ Bus center (Takayama). The open air onsen is the best here. Highly recommended!

helpful and professional staff”
at the time we stayed in the hotel, part of the highway from takayama to nagoya was blocked due to heavy rain in west japan the week earlier. we were lucky to meet one Malaysian staff in the hotel that can speak Cantonese while we checked in. She and other Japanese staff explained to us in details how to drive back to Nagoya and we were able to go back safely the next day. rooms are spacious and location is good, with free parking.

Great hotel, great room”
We got the Japanese style room and it was really spacious. It has separate toilet and bathroom and everything is clean and tidy. The hotel is close to train and bus station, as a result it is a bit further from the main town area. Shops in Takayama close quite early , but the hotel has a few restaurants that open until late and are reasonably priced. They also have shops selling souvenirs and snacks, also reasonably priced. We also enjoyed the free spa, gym and swimming pool

Conveniently located and comfortable ”
Hotel staff was helpful and the onsen especially the roof top baths with good view of Takayama city were worth staying here for. Close to both Takayama train station and Nohi bus terminal, it was very easy to get around to visit other towns like Gero, Shirakawago.
