Quaint and soulful ”
Patchworks and vinyls filled the common area of Gekka Guesthouse. Truly, it was put together with taste. The room was cosy enough for us, though it was separated by a thin wall. Toilet and bath were clean too. The only down side was the cold water at the basin making brushing teeth a bit of a nightmare. Apart from that, it was a wonderful stay at Gekka. Will definitely come back again!

Like staying in someone's beautiful home”
i really enjoyed my stay since it was like living in someone's beautiful home. the home decor is marvellous! i like returning to such a homely place in the afternoon/evening. my room was spacious and clean. guest house gekka can only accomodate a few guests at any time and this means that you can use the communal internet/computers and shower/bath/laundry facilities almost anytime.

Quirky cozy guest house”
We stayed in the mixed dorm for one night during the Spring Festival. I have to say this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing dorms I've ever stayed in. However, it is a mixed dorm so the snoring men kept me awake as well as the night light near the door most of the night. I suggest booking a family room or single room upstairs. Enjoyed hanging out in the common areas which also were tastefully decorated with their collection of vintage album and CD covers. The refills on hot tea is a very nice touch. In spite of being off the beaten track it is still walking distance to center of town and Takayama Green Hotel which is where we spent an evening a nice and affordable hot spring spa. If we come back to Takayama we'll definitely stay here again.

Very nice & clean guesthouse with friendly owner.”
We truly enjoyed our stay in the guesthouse. The owner is very kind enough to let us occupy its lounge to have a small rest before we head to our next destination even after we have checked out with jazz music playing to us. The guesthouse is just directly opposite a very famous bakery which gave us the bonus to taste one of the best pastries we have ever had.

Looks small from outside! ”
The guest house is 15-20 mins walk from Takayama JR station. Room was big and very comfortable. Shared bathroom, only problem was no push (toilet) shower. Nice common area, amenity room with water kettle, microwave and some toiletries for rent. Make sure to get the map from the reception to know the restaurants nearby.

Very helpful owners!!!”
The owners welcomed us warmly and pointed out local points of interest and facilities. The place was spotless and the owners helped us sort out a problem with our next hotel over the phone - invaluable given our lack of Japanese! Highly recommended!

European style comfy stay”
With your stay is included a discount for the Green Hotel Onsen. Worth it. Even if the decoration is European style, beds are on the ground (I don't know if there were exactly "futon" cause were more comfortable than usual futon)

Nice hostel!”
This hostel offers simple and cheap Japanese-style rooms, with shared toilet and a Japanese bath. It's a cosy place, attached to a store; from the living room you're almost in the shop. The owners are very friendly and when we asked for a taxi to the station (quite close, about 1 km) the owner drove us instead.

Nice guesthouse, good facilities”
Spacious room, comfortable Japanese futons, friendly owners, large common room. On the downside: it's very noisy, the walls are very thin and you hear everything from your neightbours. Also, there were 3 rooms occupied but the shower and toilet were pretty crowded already. There is no other place to wash your hands than in the shower and in the morning it gets pretty busy. I found paying €50 a little expensive considering the shared facilities.
