Strategic Location”

first time in takayama, i choose hodakaso yamano-iori with private bathroom. i want to try japanese traditional house that near the station. because if we wanted to go anywhere else all transport such as buses and trains is in the station. evidently, the location is also close to many place else like bars mini market and restaurants. this place is cute, we were greeted when we came and my name written on the board of the entrance. the facility was awesome. the room is quiet big enough. toilet and bathroom were seperate. there is also an onsen at the ground floor. value for money! definitely would go back again if visiting takayama.

Japanese Ryokan hotel centrally located”

Real Japanese hotel style with public bath, Friendly Staff, Great traditional breakfast

This hotel is Ryokan, Japanese style located at the city center of Takayama, only 3-5 minutes walk from JR train and bus station. It closed to tourist attraction places and restaurant. The hotel has public baht (onsen). The room was clean and comfortable bed, the room space is quite big comparing to business hotel in Japan. Traditional Japanese breakfast was so great. The staff are very friendly and can communicate in English. This hotel is so great, we will stay here in next time.

Traditional ryokan experience”

Great breakfast, friendly staff, beautiful area

This beautiful ryokan was a lovely place to stay for a couple of nights while visiting Takayama! The staff spoke only a little English but enough to get by. Breakfast was delicious, with a choice of Japanese western or traditional Japanese. Both really yum! Wifi was fast. We travelled in a group of 11 and all of the rooms were comfortable, some with a futon on the tatami flooring and some on a low raised mattress. Some rooms have a clean and functional bathroom, other had to use the public bath which was a typical shared Japanese hot tub with separate male/female areas. The rooms with garden views were by far the nicest. I would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to experience a Japanese ryokan!

Pleasantly surprised!”

When we first entered this ryokan, we were pleasantly surprised by the interior and facilities of the place. There is an awesome communal onsen and bath, great Japanese breakfast, nice Japanese styled room with comfy tatami mats. In the room you can sit down on the floor at the table, drink green tea and enjoy a snack or two. Totally a relaxing stay, would definitely stay here again the next time we visit Takayama

Japan tour”

Great location in Takayama plus this was a great opportunity to experience a Japanese style accommodation with the soaking hot tub experience. One needs to get used to sleeping on the mats and using the shared facilities. Overall a great stay with a traditional breakfast and use of the soaking tub. Only negative is that it is an older property so the walls were thin and floors where uneven so walking was a little challenging.

A nice Ryokan”

The hot communal (but not mixed) bath, clean bathrobes everyday, friendly and helpful staff

The hotel was within easy walking distance from the JR station and we found it with little difficulty. On entering the hotel shoes are removed and left in a rack and slippers provided. The bedroom was large with mattresses on the floor, the bathroom had a hath and shower The men's communal bathroom had a wash area and the bath was timber lined and very hot. Breakfast was on low tables sitting on the floor, the waitresses helped heat the soup and cook your choice of fish. Easy access to the markets and sites in Takayama

Perfect Location, nice Onsen and a Helpfull staff”

Location, Onsen and Room size

I stayed there with my wife and this was our 1st time visit Japan also 1st time tried a Ryokan. We are so lucky the days that we were at Takayama, we could see snow falling and the room we stayed has a outside view with a tree full of snowflakes. Everything was great there, they have own onsen, even it's not too big but it clean and cozy. One more things to add is the heater was not working properly so we are breezed to death in the room. But despite of that, this is a very good hotel with a good location (Especially For a Vegetarian people like us).

Authentic Comfortable Japanese Experience”

We were travelling through Japan on our honeymoon. This was our 3rd location out of 5 and first traditional stay. We loved it! Initially I was a little apprehensive as the reviews were mixed. Some mentioned the unfriendly reception and dusty rooms. However we did not experience either. We don't speak Japanese and made an effort to bow & greet them (when in Rome, do as the Romans do and show some respect)& they were polite back to us. The first room was big & spacious with an ensuite toilet. We were shifted on our 3rd night's stay to a smaller room with no toilet but it was also cheaper & very reasonably priced. The shared toilet was also right outside the room so it's not a trek to the toilet. We did not eat in the ryokan as brekkie is at 7-ish and we are late risers. But the aroma of the food every morning when we woke was incredible. Book ahead of time. Also you are able to return after midnight, just pry open the door manually and shut it as the electronic system shuts after that.

The hotel is a short walk from the JR station. Our room was a standard tatami room which you can find wherever in Ryokan style hotel in Japan. It was nice and clean. There was a small onsen (women) that could take 4 people maximum. The breakfast was good. Overall I would recommend this place to everyone.

Unique stay”

location, kindness of staff, good functional rom

It is a kind of unique experience. Pity i did not try their onsen. I stayed only for a short 1 night, but room is pretty spacious with private restroom, and separate small bathroom with a tub. However, inside a cabinet once you opened the door quite dusty. Need more cleanliness in that area. The rest is just fine. Breakfast is unique but talking about quality it is still quite lacking. Only a small piece of salmon teriyaki, soft boiled egg, rice, soup, coffee, green tea...more meat would be highly recommended. But, in term of value for money it is great! considering cheap with the size and comfort in the room.

the room was spacious with private onsen in the room and balcony, close to the cable car, can use the public outdoor onsen privately for 40 minutes, beautiful room and breakfast

everything was beautiful at yamanoiori, from onsen in the room to the outdoor onsen for private usage, from the lovely japanese stove at the reception to the japanese breakfast served in a private room. location was great cos it's very close to the cable car which was our destination the next day. the only thing is the rather distant service provided by the staff. we did not see a single smile on their face.
