5 star hostel!”

In this hostel, I made a lot of friends. All the staff can speck English and all of them are so NICE! Also, there is cooking facilities, that's well for the meal arrangement. Japanese living style hostel, very clean. Close to Nijo castle and Kyoto Imperial palace, I can walk to these two spots. Around the environment it is so quiet so you can have a nice sleep. Low price for high value. Recommend to all the people who want or have planned to visit Kyoto!

Affordable and homey”

The price is indeed quite good. Location is just next to some of the main attractions, although a bit far from the East side, but the neighborhood is quiet and authentic, they still clap the woods at night to remind about fire!! The house is an old traditional one, so it's quite interesting from the cultural point of view. Although that makes it noisy too. Shower and toilets are clean and with needs provided. Kitchen is full equipped. There is a small indoor courtyard, Japanese style. Common room is also Japanese style. Good to live the traditional ways, although the couches at the high table need a change, not very comfortable. Beds are comfy, with headlamp and plugs. The dorm room is a bit packed, but inside each bed the space is good. Staff was very friendly, as well as the owner! Umbrellas available to borrow and bikes for renting. A lot of tourist information about Kyoto with a useful map.

Beautiful and very cute hostel in a very quiet neighborhood. I liked how the wood was used all over the hostel. It brought some serenity and authenticity to the place. The staff was also particularly kind, helpful, and energetic. I really enjoyed my stay and this hostel and would definitely recommend.

Very good”

Charming, small hostel in traditional building (narrow passageways!). Easy bus ride from Kyoto Station and just a few blocks (easy walk) from Nijo Castle. Good supermarket nearby, which is a bonus. Staff was friendly and helpful. Loved their bath soap too - an odd observation, admittedly, but it was memorable!

It is abit run down but super budget friendly”

If you are an adventurous traveller who is only looking for a place to sleep, this is for you. The place is really clean and comfortable with bicycles renting service so you could explore the neighbourhood easily (especially biking all the way to Gion)! They have a cute Kyoto garden inside, which brings out the zen vibe and I think it is super cool. You need to share the shower and toilets tho. Great for couples or solo travellers, but definitely not for family or anyone who brings children. The stairs are super steep and narrow. Rooms are not sound-proof too.

Beautiful stay, amazing location and great staff! Bus stop is two blocks away and it takes you everywhere you need to go to see the main spots in Kyoto. The girls on the desk were fantastic, they will give you tips and recommendations to explore the city. You can also use the kitchen and there is a tiny patio you can enjoy (better in summer time...).

Small. Quaint. A bit shabby. ”

Though my trip to Kyoto started off bad on account of walking for ages under the rain to this hostel, my experience was generally okay. My biggest concerns with it was how tiny it was. Once you walk through the door, it is basically a narrow, one-person lane to the room which is past the kitchen. Therefore, if anyone is in the kitchen part of the hall, you are constantly waiting or having to move out of the way. The rooms are small as well. The bed situations somehow work well in such a small space; they are spacious, but the room is only big enough to enter and exit your bunk. Also, there is a problem with keeping in heat. Though beautiful, all of the wood styled doors and furniture let all of the wind past and are actually really noisy. I had the worst sleep of my stay in japan so far there because of how noisy everything is. The floors, beds, and doors creak and the curtains pull away with a loud scratchy noise. Still though, if you are there during a warmer time, and just need the hostel to collapse in, then this place is great.

Great place, my brother and I enjoyed our stay here very much! The location is great and it feels like a small home. The kitchen area is super useful and the common area is a wonderful place to just have some complimentary tea and unwind. The staff are a joy here and very helpful with very good recommendations and always smiling! The beds were a little hard but no big deal for us :)

A nice hostel for those who want to experience to live at a traditional Japanese house”

The hostel was used to be a traditional Japanese house. It's located at a quiet area. It's clean and the staffs are friendly. They recommend a hot spring place nearby the hostel, but I've never found it though.

Good location, simple stay”

The location is great, with short walk to 3 supermarkets and bus stops for transport to all major attractions. If you wish, it is a ~15mins walk to Nishiki Market, and from there ~10mins walk to Gion. Facilities are basic and clean. Shower's water are strong and hot. Just a small point, would have been great (especially during winter) if there was a hot water dispenser (for drinking). Staff are friendly and helpful (esp the TW and Msian girls) :) Overall a great place to stay!

Terrible security, cash was stolen from the bunkbed while my companion was away, the person entered her bunkbed and rummaged through her belongings. narrow, cold and a bit shabby”

The staff was very helpful in every regard, but that does not change the fact that the room was more on the smaller side, cold and a bit run down. The shower can only be reached through a small courtyard and the kitchen equipment is basic at best. The location is okayish, but there are definitely more vibrant areas in Kyoto with a tad better public traffic connections (20mins to JR Nijo, 10mins to subway, 5mins to a couple of buses). The WiFi worked great.

Pleasant old Japanese style building (with steep stairs). The atmosphere and staff were really nice and pleasant. Good location, walking distance to Nijo castle, a supermarket, bus and subway/trains stations. However, the double bed in our room was quite hard and sloped to one side, we actually would have preferred futons on the ground.
