Ski-in ski-out location ”
The half-board option is a must as the meals are delicious and of a high quality. Also, there is realistically nowhere else to eat at Okushiga Kogen. The is an old property but is maintained extremely well. The bathrooms have ridiculously low sinks, I am about 1.67m tall and the sinks were at thigh-height! The bathrooms are spacious with double sinks and a bathtub/shower combo, but honestly I much preferred the onsen every night. The rooms are spacious with a walk-in dressing area which was much appreciated. We had balconies but no one had bothered to shovel the body height of accumulated snow on the balconies which had iced over so it wasn’t feasible to walk out onto the balcony. Even though the hotel was full, you never felt that it was too busy but you did have to book a time slot in the restaurants. We didn’t mind eating later so it was ok. I also always had the onsen to myself, that’s luxury. The ski lockers are conveniently located by the exit to the slopes. The ski-in ski-out was key to us booking the hotel and paying the premium.

Nearly everything was perfect! We stayed in the traditional Japanese room,. The futon mats were unbelievably comfortable to sleep on. Only negative was the meal package we added to our accommodation package, for buffet breakfast and dinner, which was nearly as expensive as the room rate. Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu dinners were delicious, but after nearly 8h skiing, unfortunately left us feeling hungry.! Dessert only consisted of two tiny slivers of fruit. As such, the meal package add on was rather poor value for money..

Storybook vistas”
We had a great time in a twin room. Very spacious with balcony overlooking ski slopes. We were a few days too early to use the okushiga ski lift but the hotel shuttle bus took us to lifts that were open. Had the onsen to ourselves both days - also overlooking the snow covered mountains and carpark. A great relaxation room too with massage chairs. Food is delicious but rather pricey for dinner. Staff very helpful.
