Great Vacation Spot”
Hotel Sunny Shiga was perfect for a 3 night/2 day stay and the staff were all so, so friendly. We loved our stay and would recommend to anyone! Some info for staying in this area: -Get as much yen out before you leave Tokyo or Nagano; ATMs that take American cards are hard to find and almost all places accept yen only. - Ski rental at the hotel was 1500 yen/person for skis, boots, poles, and helmet - Lift ticket was 4500 yen/person for 1 day in the central area (LOTS of slopes to choose from- other options are available) - Hotel serves very little Western cuisine, so if you're used to that you should bring your own food - Ichinose is about a 10-15 minute walk where there are more restaurants to choose from - They allow smoking in the hotel - The hotel sells a 1000 yen/person roundtrip bus ticket to the snow monkey park Overall this hotel was a very pleasant experience and I cannot say enough about how kind and accommodating the staff were!

No frill ski hotel at Takamagahara”
Pros: the hotel pretty much has everything you need for ski holiday: ski rentals, storage dry room, ski lessons, hot spring, convenient shop, restaurant, coin laundry facility, and about 2 minute walk to the bus stop. vending machine for drinks available at every floor. Staffs were very polite and tried their best to answer my queries and requests throughout my 4 night stay. Cons: room was dirty with stains that were not bothered to clean up. restaurant served buffet style breakfast and dinner set only. hot water for tea available on every floor that you can self serve with thermos flask and tea bags. Need to walk over to Ichinose for restaurants that cater more for foteigner and non Japanese foods.
