"It was a rather quiet hotel. Due to Corona, restaurants were not open for lunch or dinner. But there was buffet breakfast, mostly with Japanese choice. There are many temples nearby, one being right next to hotel. But there were not many stores/restaurant near the hotel. Wifi was strong, but unsecured. They have shuttle buses to and from Kyoto Station, but the car park was not adequate for many guests. Overall, it was a nice functional experience."

"It was nice surprise to stay in the such a lovely and clean hostel. I stayed in a Japanese room as a private room. If I could ask for any improvement, it would be to install a blackout Cuirtain over the windows. I had a trouble with the morning sunlight as there were only the thin white paper sliding screens in front of the glass windows so nothing to block the sunlight in the morning and the room was bright like day time at 5.30am and that woke me up. Also the outside of the bedroom was the common room with kitchen and eating area so that water tap noise, kettle noise, the noise moving the chairs on the wood flooring, even whispering talk (some people were there talking before 6am) were another problem. Very nice place and comfortable futon bed but if you would like to have a good night sleep, it would not be your place. There is curfew at 11pm so if you are to enjoy the night time experience, it also would not be the place for you. "

"My family went to Kansai in a group of 11 people in Feb and we stayed at Kyomachiya Shogoin for 3 nights. We had a wonderful time there and we definitely will choose Kyomachiya Shogoin if we will ever visit Kyoto again. The place looked exactly the same as shown in the photos of the website. It’s a newly renovated 2-storey house with traditional Japanese interiors. Everything was neat and clean, also very homey and comfy. The kitchen was well-equipped. We made breakfast there every morning. We also managed to have a hotpot dinner there. A big supermarket is in a 10-min walking distance, where you can get everything you need for breakfast or dinner. The place is located in a quiet residential area. Although it is not centrally located at the sight-seeing places, we didn’t find any problem in travelling around Kyoto. There is a bus stop in about 5-min walk. The buses can get you to the major locations (e.g. Gion, Kiyomizu, Kyoto JR station, etc.) very conveniently. The owner of the place was very nice. He can speak English so you will definitely find no problem communicating with him. One of my family members was sick during the stay. The owner was very helpful that he drove us to the hospital and helped translating for us and the doctor. One downside of this place is that there are only 1 bathroom and 2 toilets. For us, as we usually back to the place not too late at night, we had more than enough time to take turns for shower. So, this is not a big problem to us. "
