This hotel was absolutely immaculate and the rooms had been designed with every convenience in mind, even down to the heated bathroom mirror. It was by far the largest room we had during our travels in Japan, plenty of storage and a separate seating area even just in a standard double room. We loved the complimentary yukata and nespresso machine and the daily free bottles of water were great in the August heat. The staff were very friendly and exceptionally keen to help although it was possible to tell that they were a little new, the hotel had only been open a few months and in their enthusiasm they'd talk over each other a little bit. The location is great for getting around Kyoto and the wider area, close to lots of bus stops and the huge expanse that is Kyoto station. We avoided breakfast at the hotel (VERY expensive) and grabbed snacks from the 7/11 each night to put in our fridge in the room. Negatives: we felt the restaurant was overpriced and very small portion sizes compared to every other meal we ate in Kyoto. Also as a coeliac (gluten free needed) they didn't understand at all which to be fair was the case across Japan as a whole. May be something they could learn about as they continue to get visitors from around the world I'm sure they will encounter this again. Also avoid getting a massage in the relaxation room. It's an external company that come in to the hotel. During my massage other hotel guests opened the door of the room and came in. When I told front desk about this I was offered an apology but not even a complimentary drink in the bar. I expected them to take it a bit more seriously. Lesson learnt! Overall we would stay here again as a good base for exploring Kyoto.

It's a brand new 5 star hotel (opened in September 2017). The location is just perfect for us as we had gotten the hotel to make most of our restaurants reservations, mostly around the GION district area. Quite a number of sightseeing places (famous Shrines & Temples) are within walking distance. It is especially good for us as we can walk off the calories after our lunch and before heading back to hotel to freshen up and then for dinner. The room size is pretty good and everything is so new and clean.. even the hotel smells good too! Room rate is considered reasonable given the high rates in most hotels in Kyoto. Overall,we are happy and satisfied with the stay at Celestine Kyoto Gion. The only problem (not big though) is you have to be rather patience with the staff if communicating in English with them. Anyway, will definitely stay at this hotel again.

We only booked for one night to see the top 5 attractions of Kyoto. New miyako was superbly located, just in front of the massive train station and bus transits which can lead u to ALL major attractions in Kyoto. You can take the bus 100 and get a day pass for ride all u can, you can see major temples such as Silver pavilion and a nearby one with a UNESCO heritage badge. Also can get dropped off nearby Gion town with possible Geisha sightings. I was able to go Fushima inari shrine, Gion and a main temple in half a day. Second half day was able to see silver and gold pavilion, also arashiyama. Meaning location excellent. Food not a problem with restaurants in hotel and nearby groceries and huge food court in train station. We got higher end rooms than standard ones which had a nice dark vibe in the corridors. A nice four star feel. Rooms a bit larger for Japanese standard that is also why i got it. 2 single beds (a bit hard but also a Japanese norm) and a sitting area with a table. Cable tv no English channel. I will probably stay here again if I visit Kyoto again due to proximity of hotel to Train station.

This hotel is locating just next to Kyoto JR and bus station which is a very good place to start the journey in Kyoto. Besides, it's just 15 mins walk to Kyoto Aquarium. Although the building looks old outside, but it seems renew inside the room. I was living in a twin room and the space is large enough for 2 ppl to open their suitcases. We are surprised by the high speed free wifi with stable connection provided. Sure we will stay in the same hotel if going to Kyoto again.

It's a very charming hotel, near Kyoto St. (crossing the street from the South/West exit, it will take you less than 5 min walking). The standard room it's a bit small, but very comfortable and also had a very nice balcony. They offered us a ¥1,000 upgrade (that made it up for the room size). I love the design of the public spaces at the lobby, the restaurant/terrace and the live music in the evenings. The food was delicious and the performance and hospitality of the staff were outstanding (very helpful). Perfect place for any kind of travelers (business or leisure trips) and a great quality/price value. We definitely come back to this place!

This hotel was a jem, just a 5-7 mins walk to the main Kyoto station. The hotel feels very very new and rooms were well cleaned. However, we had the hotel lobby staff unable to converse in English thus we had a hard time trying to communicate with them. Although there was a language barrier, the staff had remained professional and patient while I tried to articulate my needs. At this moment, Sotetsu Fresa Inn Kyoto is the number one of my list of hotels in Kyoto.

The Hyatt Regency Kyoto has been the best hotel I have stayed at in Japan. The atmosphere and the design of the building was amazing. The wait staff was always super helpful. The linens and supplied robes were in perfect condition.. The free bottled water was a welcome and needed perk. The hotel was convenient to Kyoto Station and the Keihan train station, and the river which made for a convenient running route... The room was super big and comfortable. The climate control system actually worked. The in room safe was amazing. It had a piston to hold it open, and a power point to plug in rechargeable devices. It was super easy to use. The traditional food a the Touzan restaurant was great. There was even a wedding going on after we checked in.

Room is spacious with ample natural light. The twin beds are quite large, although a bit firm. Bathroom is larger than other hotels I've stayed at in Japan, particularly love the bathtub & rainfall shower. At check in, they have amenities baskets for ladies and children, from which you can take whatever you like, which I thought was special. The staff may seem standoff-ish, but when they know you really need help, they are very helpful. They helped me book an airport limousine bus departing from my next hotel in Tokyo. Location is a 5-10 minute walk from Kyoto Station and just a stone's throw away from Kyoto Tower. The hotel also connects directly to Kyoto Station through the Porta on B1 level, which is convenient when it's raining. However, connecting to the Porta is through a series of steps (no elevator/escalator/ramp), so keep that in mind if you're travelling with a pram/stroller/wheelchair/large suitcase.

Best located (for my purpose) hotel for me and my small family. There is a kimono rental shop just at the entrance and the selection was small but very beautiful. I personally did not rent from there but from what I can observed, it is a convenient place to start for your kimono experience. They charged around 3900 yen when I was there. There is a small Lawson right across the street from the hotel, in case you came back late from your excursion and in need of refreshment. The shops at Kyoto Station generally close at 10PM. My husband and I stayed at the Kyoto Century Hotel for 5 nights as tourists. We opted for one of the less expensive rooms on one of the upper floors. It still was fairly expensive, but fairly priced considering the excellent location of the hotel right next to the Kyoto Station. Our room was small by American standards, but it held 2 very comfortable double beds. The bathroom was super clean and adequate in size. The only thing lacking were decent sized closets and drawers for our clothes. Those 2 items would not matter for someone staying only one night. But since we were staying 5 nights, we would have appreciated a little more storage space. The employees of the hotel were wonderful. Our only really complaint was that all their restaurants served only Asian food for dinner and lunch. There were nights we felt like staying in and eating at the hotel, but we were turned off by the thought of paying in excess of $50 a person for meals we were quite sure we weren't going to like. Fortunately the breakfast, which we had opted to pay for when booking our room, had plenty of choices that even people who are not real fans of Japanese food could enjoy. The choices were really amazing covering everything from the makings for green salads, to yogurt with delicious sauces to Japanese versions of what was supposed to be French toast to ice cream. There were also many reasonably priced restaurants in Kyoto Station.

Everything is great. Internet service great, view great, room was upgraded for free. The best thing about staying in Kyoto is all the activities that you have around you. The hotel is right in the middle of all the action. There are over so many food places to choose from. The hotel resturant was excellent for dinner. this is one of the best hotels in kyoto and I do plan on going back year after year.

First of all, I definitely would not rate this as a 4-star hotel. However, as a 3-star (like most other hotel websites do), I can defintiely give a 5-star rating. I only stayed here for one night when I took a day trip to Kyoto from Tokyo. The room is small (which is fairly standard in Japan) but I felt that they have put a lot of thought into the layout. Not an inch of space is wasted and everything is within reach. Even the TV gives you a lot of useful information such as whether it's crowded at the natural hotspring on rooftop or whether the restaurant is open. The staff is helpful but the command of English defintely varies. Some of them don't speak English at all but they will happily direct you to someone who does. They were all very helpful with my day trip planning and gave me some very honest advice about my very time-aggressive itinerary (and yes they turned out to be right). For the price I paid I think it's excellent value for the money with all the amenities they provide such as the hot spring and the amazing breakfast spread. Its close proximity to the Kyoto station makes this an excellent jump off point for all the sightseeing needs for Kyoto. I'll definitely stay here again next time I go to Kyoto.

we loved staying at the kyoto brighton hotel. the room we stayed in was a double room and it was very spacious. the bathroom is very big, we enjoyed taking showers there. the rooms are clean and comfortable. the neighborhood is quite which was nice. the concierge was very helpful, they helped us book our restaurants, printed out maps and ordered our meals in advance so we didn't have to struggle reading japanese menus. there is nothing to complain about except that our room had remains of cigarette smell. we stayed at 4 hotels in kyoto. hyatt regency, hoshinoya and hotel granvia kyoto. kyoto brighton is the best value for money!

Joking in the title aside, Hotel Anteroom Kyoto was a refreshing change from the already-excellent hotels I've stayed at until this point during my first trip to Japan. Some solo travellers may find the single room to be too small for their liking - I'll admit that my room was a bit cramped, but given how beautiful Kyoto is, as a small base to take a break at once or twice a day, the small size didn't bother me that much. What really worked for me were the facilities at the hotel and the small list of what's available on the street the hotel is located on. Facilities-wise, you'll only need to spend 200-300 yen if you need to get some laundry done yourself, and if you do that during the night, you can wait for everything to be done in style at the hotel bar. As for the latter, that's how I found myself eating my first ramen in Japan, and how I found out about the best little bakery I've ever been to, anywhere in the world. First-time travellers to Kyoto booking a stay at this hotel may be a bit confused as to how to get to this hotel from Kyoto Station. Take the green subway line towards the south and get off at either Kujo or Jujo - the hotel is located on a major side street between the two stations.

My friend and I had a great experience at the Almont Hotel in Kyoto. As of 2014 the hotel is relatively new so the bathroom and appliances were all new. The room was huge (with a small table and chairs near the window), and the bathroom spacious - which in Japan is not easy to come by. It's located in a quiet neighborhood but just a couple blocks from the train station, which is excellent for those traveling Japan by rail. It's not too far from downtown Kyoto, walking distance to several amazing Temples and close to a bike rental place as well. I looked forward to coming back to the room each night. The breakfast buffet is quite expensive but has a lot of items that as a vegan I found easy to eat.

Stay this hotel for two nights in Kyoto. Near to Omiya station and Shijo Omiya station. There are few bus station nearer the hotel if you would like to take city bus. Visited the Arashiyama bamboo side by using 嵐電, which just located 1minutes away from hotel. You can go to Kawaramachi area by metro Omiya station which also just 1minutes from hotel. Convinient locatio in Kyoto and friendly staffs. Everyone are smiling and greet you. There are free breakfast and you can cook a simple dish. Breakfast are egg/ham/tuna/bread/sandwich/salad/fruits/soup and plenty of drinks that you can take. Room are big and two luggage can fix and open. Hotel is new, clean and I will stay again if visit Kyoto in future.

the hotel is centrally located and quite near the JR railway station. it is easily accessible from the rail station. it is a well-appointed hotel and noting the japanese courteousness and their trait of deference, I would say that the hotel staff is tops - from the concierge who was very accommodating, to the front desk personnel who were as efficient and to the porter who provided service at every opportunity like giving directions, suggestions on places to eat and in helping out with the luggage - I have no complaint. The hotel staff knew pretty good english and could communicate well. with respect to the accommodations, the room was comfortable, clean, complete in all accessories and I say, nicely designed. it was spacious for a japanese hotel. the location is the best. it is near a buddhist temple and not too far from the nijo castle and the imperial palace as well as to other historic sites in kyoto. overall, I rate the hotel with a 5 star.

Stayed 3 nights in this hotel on a recent sightseeing trip to Kyoto with my wife and 10 year old son. Although we only booked a double room, I mentioned that I was travelling with my son and the hotel thoughtfully provided a room with 3 single beds at no extra charge. The hotel is quite new and very clean and well decorated. Beds were comfortable with a choice of different pillow types - foam or beans! The bathroom had separate wet-room shower and a bathtub. This is a no- smoking hotel which is unusual in Japan which made a nice change in what is a serious smoking country so no stale smoke odours! A free 'continental' breakfast consisting of unlimited freshly-baked (warm!) Danish pastries, juice cartons and tea & coffee is provided. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from the Hankyu railway's Omiya station and the Randen Arashiyama Line's Shijo Omiya station. There are plenty of bus stops within a few minutes walk to take you to all of the major tourist sites - I recommend the one-day Kyoto bus pass for 500 Yen (available at the hotel front desk or from bus drivers) which is cheaper than 3 bus rides if you will plan on using the bus for tourism! The hotel web site provides details of how to get there - which if you are coming from Kyoto JR Station needs a change between the Kyoto Metro and the Hankyu Railway and separate tickets, neither are operated by JR so not included in the Japan Rail Pass! Would certainly consider staying here again if I return to Kyoto.

The hotel was new, which meant the facilities were new too. Love their hot spring, and their complimentary coffee served from morning till night (8pm or so) - it was really good ice coffee. We booked their Twin Rooms, and was only in Kyoto for 3 days. So we travelled light. The rooms maybe a little small if you have big luggages like the 29 inch type. Huge toilets, glass door type. Unlike most hotels in japan with built in toilets (that you have to get into the bathtub to shower), i prefer bigger showers like in this hotel It is walking distance to NIJO CASTLE, Unesco Heritage site. Definitely worth the visit. Highly recommend you to visit this CASTLE compared to OSAKA Castle. Will definitely stay here again if I am back in Kyoto, and will definitely recommend to friends.

I visited Kyoto for the second time after 20 years. Grand Prince Hotel is right across the Kyoto International Convention Center where my meeting was held so it was an excellent choice location wise. A very tranquil environment to stay. Service was great. It's good to have both Western and Japanese style breakfast in the same place. Staff was extremely professional and helpful when I had issue with my flight back to the U.S. Perhaps the only thing I wish the hotel had is a gym. Other than that, excellent!

Location is really close to JR Kyoto / Kintetsu Railway. Staffs fluent with english, Staffs are really kind, WiFi internet is quite fast, the twin bedroom is larger than the other japan's hotel. Near the hotel, you can find a lot of restaurant. I recommend you to try 'Nakau Restaurant', they sell a lot of japanese food (udon, katsudon, chicken karage, sukiyaki, katsu curry, cold udon, etc). When I want to buy Kyoto All Day Bus Ticket, just walk 5 minutes from hotel, go to inside the JR Station, go to second floor, find the Tourist Information Center near ISETAN Dept Store, buy it there 500 JPY. When u want to go sightseeing with bus, u can see a lot of the bus in the station in front of the hotel, beside the JR Kyoto St. Tips: Use bus no. 100 to go to Kiyomizudera temple, or Bus No. 5 to go to Gion or Nishiki Market area. Gion market is cheaper than the other market in Kyoto. If you're Japan Rail Pass Holder, use JR local trains to go to Fushimi Inari Shrine, it's free. Just stop at the Fushimi Inari station, that shrine located outside the station. So from Ibis Hotel to Fushimi Inari Shrine at least 10 min course.

I was a solo traveller first time in Kyoto. This hotel is in a excellent location, only 1 stop from the main part of town on the Hankyu line and right at the terminal stop of the shijo-omiya electric line which goes to a lot of tourist sites. The bonus is you can even take the Hankyu line all the way to Osaka which is a 40-45 minute rude for only 400 yen. Although the hotel is old it is very well mantained and spotless. The only thing to watch out for is carrying large bags from Kyoto station. You will have to swap lines twice in very non-big bag friendly stations as the companies that run the lines are different. Very bizzare concept coming from Sydney. That is just something to keep in mind that isn't to do anything with the hotel per se, but just something to consider when getting there. Also watch out what train you get on as the express ones don't stop at Oyima! Overall great hotel and Kyoto is a magical place you must visit. Can't wait to go back and would stay there again.

I had initially booked another hotel but only managed to get one day. The 2-5 day were spent at CMM. My advice is to take the Kansai airport bus (not the subway) to kyoto if your destination is Kyoto as last stop is situated about 200m from CMM. Once you alight from the bus, make a left turn and walk about 150m or so then make a right. Another about 100m you will see CMM on the left. It’s a pretty small hotel but you can see it. There’s a family mart about 20m away. I had gone to the mall opposite the hotel (20m away) for breakfast. Lots of Japanese food and a McDonalds. Kyoto station is about 300m (opposite the anovementioned mall. There’s also plenty of food there. The friendly staff speak English and Mandarin so no worries. They are super patient and will give you lots of suggestions on shopping and food. Like all Japan hotel, it’s pretty small but things are well organized. There’s a washing machine, stove and oven so you can do your own cooking. Overall, yes I’ll return

The location is excellent, just the opposite side of Kyoto Station. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The hotel just below Kyoto Tower and the guest can access the Tower for free. Surprisingly, the hotel locates in central city and under the highlight city tower, but the price is reasonable. It even cheaper than other ryokans around. If you are not serious to stay in western style hotel in Kyoto, this will be the good choice.

We stayed at the Sakura Terrace Hotel in Kyoto during the busy last week of November 2013. We paid US$160 per night, without breakfast, but it should be about half that during off-peak periods. The hotel opened in October 2013. It is conveniently located one subway stop south of Kyoto station, with the Kujo station exit right in front of the hotel entrance. Alternatively, it is a six minute walk from the east exit of Kyoto station. The room is 18 sq metres, and has a decently sized attached bathroom/toilet. Comfortable bed and strong flow of hot water in the bathroom. Free wifi, fridge and hot water boiler in the room. Our room was just next to the lift, but there was no noise. Split unit aircon for cooling or heating, but, unfortunately, very limited English language TV. Free washing machine and dryer located on the 4th Floor. Bar and breakfast room on the ground floor. Pleasant English speaking staff at reception. Only smoking room was available at time of booking, but the reception staff managed to switch it to a non-smoking room. Overall, I would rate the hotel as a 4-star, even though it does not have any restaurant or room service within the hotel. (Visitors have lots of food options at the restaurants nearby the hotel or at Kyoto station.) We will definitely stay there again when we are next in Kyoto.

The location is quite ok. Various bus routes just a minute away from hotel. In Kyoto you will be catching bus more than subway so access to a big bus stop is more convenient. few minutes walk to Shin-omiya stn which going directly to Arashiyama Bamboo forest. I didn’t use the train lines that much so depends where you go it will benefit you but 90% you’ll catch bus to shrines and temples in the city. The hotel is pretty new so cleanliness is good and facilities inside hotel are new also. Few limitations are you can’t leave your luggages at hotel itself because there is no reception desk there. The hotel check-in & out are done automatically on ipad. No actual staff presentation at hotel. They have their main office near Kyoto stn, if you need to drop off your luggage before/after your stay, you’ll need to pickup/bring luggage to office, quite inconvenient if you have few pieces. A friendly suggestion, should have communication app like Line, Whatapps to have quicker reply.

came from namba,osaka by rapid train. arriving in jr kyoto station at the center exit immediately saw the kyoto tower. went left and after a block there's the kyoto tower annex. very near the kyoto station for the purpose of travelling around the city attractions. it is a great base as the city buses that offer all day pass for 500yen you can reach the different shopping districts and markets for fresh delicious food and great restaurants. or to the many shrines and temples. regularly bus fares are 220yen per ride. so the all day pass is very advantageous for travellers who might take the wrong bus like i did. the kyoto station is the center of transportation as the subways also connects there. the haruka or shinkansen to the kansai airport is also available from this station. this hotel also has a supermarket across and a lawson convinient store beside.
