"We stayed at the Sakura Terrace Hotel in Kyoto during the busy last week of November 2013. We paid US$160 per night, without breakfast, but it should be about half that during off-peak periods. The hotel opened in October 2013. It is conveniently located one subway stop south of Kyoto station, with the Kujo station exit right in front of the hotel entrance. Alternatively, it is a six minute walk from the east exit of Kyoto station. The room is 18 sq metres, and has a decently sized attached bathroom/toilet. Comfortable bed and strong flow of hot water in the bathroom. Free wifi, fridge and hot water boiler in the room. Our room was just next to the lift, but there was no noise. Split unit aircon for cooling or heating, but, unfortunately, very limited English language TV. Free washing machine and dryer located on the 4th Floor. Bar and breakfast room on the ground floor. Pleasant English speaking staff at reception. Only smoking room was available at time of booking, but the reception staff managed to switch it to a non-smoking room. Overall, I would rate the hotel as a 4-star, even though it does not have any restaurant or room service within the hotel. (Visitors have lots of food options at the restaurants nearby the hotel or at Kyoto station.) We will definitely stay there again when we are next in Kyoto. "

"We stayed 2 nites in Sakura Terrace The Gallery. Very easy to locate , only 5 mins walk from Kyoto Station in the opposite direction from Kyoto Tower. Very clean and comfortable - big room, big bathroom, balcony, 3-seater sofa in-room, complimentary welcome drink (alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices) every evening, sumptuous breakfast comprising wide range of Japanese and western items, freshly grounded coffee (4 selections), fragrant tea selections, onsen (but not natural spring water), complimentary self-laundrette, gym and lounge. Very helpful and cheerful staff."

"The APA Villa Hotel in Kyoto is an inexpensive hotel that is clean and comfortable. The rooms are small (but all hotels in Japan offer small rooms). The location is convenient because you can walk one block to/from Kyoto Station. That is especially convenient because you may take a train or bus to different parts of Kyoto to see temples, shirnes, restaurants, or theaters. You can also walk to department stores and restaurants nearby. I would ignore criticism about the room size, as this issue does not inhibit your comfort. The staff is especially helpful and provides maps, train/bus schedules printed in English. There's a Seattle's Best Coffee shop in the hotel lobby!"

"Location is the best. Just across the underground path, the entrance will right in front of you. You can access JR and department store very easily. Bus interchange and Kyoto tower is right at the corner. The best thing is there is a Super big shopping mall behind the hotel, you can find everything you need there. We are a group of four, so we booked a linked room ( two rooms linked together). The room is comfy and cozy. We only stayed here for one day, but we did enjoyed our stay! If there comes another chance to visit Kyoto again, I'll definitely choose here again. "

"Hotel property and staff exceeded our expectations. The room was clean, modern, and huge compared to other hotels. The bathroom and shower was luxurious. The hotel ambiance was peaceful and relaxing. Location was perfect as it is practically connected to Kyoto station yet setback just enough to provide a zen like experience after a long day of exploring. Staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and feel at home. Can’t say enough positive things about our experience at the Thousand Kyoto. Look forward to one day booking a stay at this property in the near future. "

"We loved the freshness of the new build hotel. The facilities were great! On the tv you can see the status of the washing machines downstairs so that you know when to use them. The automatic toilet and bathroom were very comfortable. The room 26sq.m. was the perfect size. There is also a 711 inside the hotel. I only think they should consider a second option for pillows. The ones they have with hey and feathers sounds special and expensive but unfortunately trigger allergies and are quite hard to sleep on. The location was perfect less than 100m from Kyoto station. Overall we loved it and would book it again in the future. "

"we really enjoyed staying at hotel hokke. its a small friendly hotel with some nice touches. women are given a bath amenities pack on arrival. a library, lounge area and cooled water is available as well as free internet. the laundry is very accessible and cheap to use. the hotel has made up information folders on the important sites and things to do in kyoto i.e. imperial palace. i found these folders very helpful as a first time visitor to kyoto. our room was a twin 18m and was quite spacious. the hotel is located at the back of kyoto station, approx a 5 minute walk once you get out of the station. we had some difficulty finding the hotel as it does not have a big sign out the front saying "hotel hokke" we actually walked past it and about 30 mins later a helpful young couple walked us to the hotel. when we arrived we realised how easy it would be to miss it. it is about 20 metres from the kyoto tower hotel which you can't miss. turn left at the kyoto tower corner and walk a little and you will find it. remember the signage is not that bold. for the service, affordability and facilities we would definitely return. sometimes its nice to stay in a smaller hotel."
