Very comfortable ryokan, spacious room, lovely indoor and outdoor onsen. Very close to great izakayas and restaurants. A must is Tyler-san's walking tour of the town, very good value, we had a fantastic time during it. Hosts are extremely helpful, and lovely people! We loved it at Kamesei!!

Great Ryokan Experience”
We planned our stay here even though it was out of the way after seeing raving reviews online. Indeed Kamesei Ryokan does not disappoint. Mr Tyler was a great host during our stay. For the first day there we alighted at the wrong station and he came over to pick us despite it being quite far away from the ryokan. And he sent us to the station the next day. There is a private bath which you can book at the counter while checking it. It was the first I've been in an onsen. Now I'm addicted. Only regret I have is not being able to stay for more days. The kiseki dinner was a treat too!

Thank you for coming and enjoying our onsen inn. It took a bit of sleuthing work, but we figured out your arrival station. FYI, the closest station is called Togura on the Shinano Railway Line. By local train, it is 4 stops / 15 min. from Ueda or 25 min. from Nagano, the two closest stops on the Hokuriku Shinkansen. Thank you also for trying our chef's kaiseki-style dinner. We highly recommend it to our guests to fully appreciate their ryokan experience. Our chef's version is quite a creative take on Nagano's mountain cuisine, and features seasonal ingredients. Hopefully some day you can come again.

I was a little worried when I arrived in Chikuma since the place was in the country side but in the end I had a great time. Tyler and his wife were very hands on in running this ryokan. They were very helpful and accommodating. The private onsen was great and very relaxing. I did a walking tour with Tyler together with a TV crew as they were featuring him on their show. The walking tour was simple but I got great insights on the lives/livelihood of people in Chikuma. It also includes a "casual tea ceremony." I had breakfast and dinner in the ryokan. They happy accommodated my request (food restrictions) and prepared a very traditional kaiseki. Highly recommend

Actually, at only 2 hours from Tokyo by train, our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada is actually one of the closest onsen resort towns to Tokyo. So you enjoyed our Zukudashi Eco Tours walking tour? I had a very enjoyable time at this Ryokan. The owners were very friendly and was eager to share their love of the town and ryokan with me. They were accommodating and answered any questions I had. The place was nice and clean and they had a relaxing onsen. I would surely stay again if I ever come back to the area.

Tyler and his wife were warm and helpful couple. He was prompt to assist and gave us a brief introduction of Nagano and the onsen town. He even made tea for us upon our arrival which made us felt welcome. We especially liked our name tag hung outside our Ryokan room which made the whole experience personalized. He out in effort to make his guests feel welcome.

The inn provides a small onsen but its hot spring water is great, and the inn owner and his spouse are friendly and thoughtful towards the guest needs. Highly recommend to those who want a feeling of home.

We did not feel too welcomed, during our stay. The foreigner who run the place with his Japanese wife (wife was more welcoming...) did not seems to be so joyful, when we checked in. Maybe he had a bad day, who knows. That is a pity, since as a guide who brings many tour-groups from overseas, I was hoping to establish some frame-work, for bringing more often, groups there. Obviously, with the feeling we had, that is not going to happen... The place was quite empty of guests, but full of mosquitoes... 5 minutes sitting at the lobby and all my bold-head was a nice lunch for them... Wish it was all different.

Thank you for coming. I am sorry our service gave such a bad impression. To be honest, you and your parents came in with such scowls on your faces and were so aggressively demanding from the moment you set foot in our inn (What's the Wifi password?! Where's this?! Where's that?!) that we were very intimidated. When that happens, I instinctively step back and give extra space. Perhaps that came across as being unwelcoming, and for that I apologize from the bottom of my heart. But to be honest, I really, really tried. I gave the Wifi password right then and there, and answered all of your demands, and we upgraded your guestrooms to ones on the first floor with their own private gardens, and even gave your parents our deluxe room with a bed so they wouldn't have to sleep on the floor. We tried, we really did. After expending all my energy to on trying best to appease you, I must not have had enough left to smile. Even our proprietress (the 'Japanese wife' you mention), remembers you as 怖い

Worthwhile Ryokan stay”
Our family of four booked for a deluxe room and we were picked up at Togura station on time with staff that greeted us upon arrival. The room we stayed at was spacious with our own pocket garden, terrace, and private toilet. It came with a ceiling fan and heater (February winter stay). We booked for breakfast and dinner for our 3D2N stay and it was all delicious and filling. They also accommodated our preferences for meals. Onsens and showers were clean and spacious. Yukata and towels were provided. All in all, we would definitely come back.

素泊まりだが、とてもたのしかった”
お泊りの日の午後2時頃に急に「温泉に行こう」としたので、素泊まりプランしかなかったです。でも直前の割引で、とてもお得感がある値段でした。 新しくないけど、清潔で、ロビーや、廊下の飾りは味があり、期待以上に素敵な旅館でした。 温泉は泉質もよかったし、家族風呂もあり、男女風呂が夜9時に入れ替わるので、両方に入れて、外の日帰り温泉の計画も実施できなかった（笑）です。 卓球や、レゴーや、本など設置している部屋もあり、外にでないので、子供を遊びに行かせ、大人が部屋にゆっくりできるのもよかったです。 温泉街でおいしい中華を食べた後、宿においてある割引券をもって射的をやってみました。子供が大喜びでした。 また行きたい宿でした。
