Great hotel in great location ”
If you want to explore Toraja (and you really should as it's unique) then Rantepao is the place from which to do so. And The Luta is the best in Rantepao. Why the best? Because it is newly built and clean and a good deal at approx $65 on Agoda. Though I'd recommend paying a bit more to upgrade to one of the suites as they come with bigger/better bathrooms. Sure, some have criticised it here ("patchy Wifi" "no elevator" "tired restaurant" ) but frankly, if you are too tired to walk to the lobby to check your email or around the corner to one of the local restaurants on the main street, perhaps you shouldn't be planning to come trekking. As you can tell, I like the place (quirks and all) and am prepared to cut it some slack: after all, is it fare to judge a hotel in a remote corner of Sulawesi by the same standards as one in Sydney or San Francisco?

very good”
Nice hotel with good rooms, good value, nice central location and internal garden....but with two caged (tiny cages) hawks. Stinky and sad. No wild animal deserves to live in a tiny cage. For breakfast, put some yogurt on the breakfast bar. Hotel arranged driver and car for 2 days, 400K Rupiah for Toraja tour one day and 1.5M Rupiah for ride to Makassar the next with sight-seeing along the way. In Makassar, driver says: You need to pay another 400K Rupiah for sight-seeing tour on the way to Makassar. Hotel and us never agreed to that. After a nice stay and nice ride and sight-seeing, that left a sour taste to the whole Luta-arranged tour, and driver.

Great location in Toraja”
This hotel was in a perfect location for a stay in Toraja, being right in the centre of Rantepao. It looked like probably the best accomodation in the town itself. The staff were really friendly and, within an hour of my arrival, had provided three options for guides to take me round the sites. They were also great about chasing up my pre-booked bus back to Makassar when it didn't show on time. The quality of the room was good for the money and the buffet breakfast was good by standards in this part of the world.

Good value hotel ”
We had a nice stay at the Luta, Good hotel, pretty clean for indonesia. Good architecture. We had a vue on the little garden so it was really quite. Very nice breakfast, with european stuff, fresh juice, bread, et. Probably the only really nice hotel in Rantepao!

Great Service”
New facility, the service was excellent although I speak Indonesian and I think some of the staff didn't speak that well. One girl was very fluent as well as the older manager. They gave my friend a ride to the atm when he was checking out and the staff are very polite and friendly. The rooms are clean BUT one room had a bit of a smell of dampness coming from the bathroom. They upgraded us and the other room still had a slight odour but remember, your travelling in Indonesia! Despite that small problem, which wasn't ubearable, I would highly recommend this hotel. Location is right in Rantepao so no need to hire a taxi for some strolls through the town.

Excellent location at Town center, comfortable clean rooms”
Despite some other larger hotels around Toraja, I would say this hotel is probably the best for your stay. Although because of the price, might not be the best value you would get in the area. Location is excellent in the town center, walking distance to many places. Rooms are probably the cleanest I found around Toraja. Breakfast was good. The hotel is not big, so it's easy to reach your room (especially after a tiring day full of activities). I seriously recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Toraja region.

Clean, comfortable hotel in the centre of Rantepao”
This place is very centrally located in Rantepao, just near the market. From here, it is very easy to reach all the bus stations to/from Makassar, and also the bemos. There are numerous guides all over the town, so that is also easy to arrange. Rooms were tastefully decorated, had a colossal bed, hot shower and was cleaned daily. There is no air conditioning or fan in the room, but if you ask at reception they will give you a fan that you can use for the entirety of your stay completely for free. Breakfast is included, though isn't great. Vegetarians watch out: most of the rice/noodle dishes have very small pieces of meat and/or fish in them. The pool is cold, which is a great way to feel refreshed at the end of a hard day's trekking. Overall, a wonderful experience. Staff were largely incredibly friendly and helpful. I'd definitely suggest staying here, even though it is quite expensive.

Pleasant hotel in the center of Rantepao”
Best location as it was in the center of Rantepao so in the evening you can walk out and go for a massage at the nearby spa, or eat at one of the restaurants. The rooms were good, modern and new - with nice hot shower. Breakfast was simple with choices of local and continental dishes. In the evening we dined in and the food was nice and reasonably priced. Must try the "pamarassan" beef - it is a local speciality similar to buah keluak. Also loved the fresh mixed juice which had passion fruit and tamarillo juice in it.

Friendly, courteous staff”
We arrived in Rantepao at 5AM by bus. We did not expect to arrive so early, but decided to try our luck at the hotel anyway (it was still dark outside). Amazingly, the staff received us very politely and after checking some paperworks, he gave us key to our room! I know on the website it mentions "early checkin possible" but 5AM is very early (we were prepared to be told to wait/nap in the lobby). The room was clean, there was problem with the hot water in the bathroom but this was fixed immediately after I reported the fault. Location was right in central of Rantepao, which is useful to walk around in the evening for dinner etc. Breakfast was just average though. Overall, excellent service and nice friendly hotel

Great hotel right in town”
For us this hotel was a great choice. It was right in town which allowed us to check out some of the local restaurants/cafes. It's also just down the street from a local market. The hotel itself is a calm oasis to relax in after a day of trekking. Wifi spotty if in your room. The garden in the center of the hotel is nice, as is the river out back. Breakfast is suitable. The dining area is really nice with river views. The coffee in Toraja is fantastic.

Serious plumbing issues”
We found Luta to be well situated in Rantepao and a good base for exploring the area. The breakfast had an average selection of items. There's no in-room WiFi, at least for the room we were in. The biggest issue we experienced was with plumbing. When we turned on our sink, the water came out completely brown. Then when we turned on the shower, barely any water came out. A staff member came immediately upon complaining, and told us to just leave the sink running until the water becomes clear. For the shower, we were told to just wait until water came (eventually it did). Even so, the water temperature fluctuated quite a bit.

Lovely hotel with small rooms”
being located in tana toraja, it could be the case that the quality standards of this hotel were not so good. however, rooms were very nice, even though they were small. clean. there was wifi available for free(they say for 2 hours, but they are quite flexible about this). breakfast choice are limited but still good.

Great jumping off point”
So many places to go to around Rantepao. This hotel is right in the middle. Breakfast was AMAZING! A nice treat to break up all the local food I’d been having. Great river views.

Not much better in Toraja”
Stayed at Luta Hotel for 3 nights. It was ample time to see the sights in the area. Situated 5 minutes walk from the busy main street in town. Big hotel with very few guests while I was there ( August 3-5/17). Front office staff spoke English. Hotel claimed to have wi-fi in main lobby but I was never able to get any reception. I had to go to a cafe shop ( Cafè Aras) on the main street to get amazing hi-speed reception. ( and decent food and great coffee!). Don't get AC at tge hotel should you stay there. No need because it gets cooler in the evenings. Request a room at the back or interior. Font rooms of the hotel absorb the street noise outside. I know because I spent my first night in such a room. Comfortable room, big bed, TV ( that I never turned on), fridge, no safety deposit box in rooom to store passport etc. WC was fine yet there is very weak pressure and water flow from the showers. Major bird-bath! I stayed in two rooms while there ( was assigned a room above the street my first night and requested a change for my remaining two) Again, very little water flow even in the second room. Hotel has a pool but it was never used by guests. Morning breakfast was fine. I never lunch or ate dinner there. The Main Street has little food choices ( for a Main Street) and many tourist crowded into, one-of-two locations of Cafè Aras. No locals in the restaurant at all only tourists. In fact I never saw a local restaurant on the Main Street. I wanted a hotel in walking distance of downtown and the buses to and from Makassar, and that I got. Took a 10 hour night bus back to Makassar, and the terminal was a 10 minute walk up the street. The river bedside the hotel is very polluted with garbage along the banks. The view is lovely from the restaurant but the river below demonstrates the problem with garbage and plastics in Indonesia, sadly a mess. The surrounding countryside is breathtakingly beautiful. Get out of the city and into the rice terraced fields. It's certainly wor

One Comment”
Quite comfortable, but not satisfy with the hot air inside the room due to no air-conditioner provided. There were many mosquito easily get into the room as the hot room forced us to open the balcony door. Ventilation fan would not enough for cooling the room. Hope LUTA could provide fan or air conditioner for customer, I'm sure customer would love LUTA more. Thanks.

Very comfortable with gorgeous view of the river from the Junior Suite ”
This is my second stay at the Luta and I would recommend it every time. There are different classes of rooms and I would really only recommend the Junior suite. Very large room with very comfortable King size bed, easily big enough to add another bed for children. Also there is a sofa and small table and chairs for snacks in the room. The only draw back is that the wifi very rarely reaches the 3rd floor.

Beautiful hotel and good location”
This is the best hotel closest to rantepao center. The staff is very pleasant and friendly but with limited English. The food is mediocre and I would eat elsewhere. There is a decent free breakfast. My only other complaint is the hotel is showing signs of wear and has not been kept up in certin areas. Also y room had. Funny odor. Other than that the hotel is aesthetically pleasing and I would stay here again

Great location and nice staffs.”
The hotel is perfectly situated in the middle of the town, with its swimmingpool facing a river and fantastic views of mountains and landscape. There are no sunbeds at the pool though, so don't expect to be lying around soaking up the sun after a hard day of trekking. The rooms are clean and spacious, and you can sleep in a really nice bed with the terasse door open, so you get the fresh outside air in. Takes away the bad pipe-smell from the bathrooms. Breakfast is good and are enjoyed with view of the river/landscape, but we don't recommend eating lunch or dinner there. Too expensive and not very good. Go out - head 2 minutes walk to your right and you'll get to Marts restaurant. They have the same things on the menu, prepare it much better and serve it with a big smile. There are live music in the bar at night, but for our taste it was way too loud and they had a very false tone. Sorry. But all en all. Luta is a great place to stay, and we would stay there again, if we were to go back.

Great place to get to after a long sticky bus ride”
this palace was such a welcome sight after our 12 hour bus ride from makassar, we needed some serious r&r. the room itself was large, cool, with mod cons and room service which is all we needed and wanted. the pool was cute, my husband used it i did not! you over look the river from some of the rooms we did and from the restaurant, where you can see the buffalos bathe each day, its brilliant. food s fine and the staff are fine too, toraja is somewhere where there are not a huge amount of lone tourists so get ready to be looked at and have your photo taken! but all in all a great place to rest our heads and definately one of the best in the town by far.
