Nice Quiet Ryokan”
This ryokan is in the middle of the mountain, surrounded by a quiet, colourful forest during the fall season. Dinner was a short ride from the guest room/bathhouse buildings by shuttle bus. Staff were friendly and helpful. Receptionist can talk in English. We paid extra to use the private open-air bathhouse, which was lovely. Room was in traditional Japanese style. It was clean and of reasonable space. It was showing signs of ageing, but I consider that an experience of the past. Bottom line: recommend.

Beautiful place, wonderful staff”
Located in the mountainous regions of Kyoto, its beautiful and serene. They have a private outdoor onsen which had great mountain views. It must be reserved and a 45 min slot costs 3,000 yen, which was really worth it. Staff were very dedicated in their service and it was a wonderful stay.

My husband and I really enjoyed staying here! We would recommend this place for those who would like to experience Japanese cultural experience (onsen and Kaiseki food (both dinner and breakfast), Yukata (traditional garment). The hotel provides a private onsen for extra cost but free shuttle service! Great deal!

Best place for healing during visiting Kyoto”
Momijiya has very long history so building is a little bit old but it is clean and comfort. You can enjoy the spring even it is a little bit small size. Momijiya Provide very nice and healthy dinner and breakfast. It was fantastic experience to me. All of staff is very kind to the guest!

Misleading Pictures”
The pictures were misleading. My room description said it has a "bathtub" and one of the pictures was that of an onsen bath looking to the mountains. It turned out there was no bathtub in the room and the onsen was available with a fee and it was located outside the room. After complaining with Agoda I got moved to another room with a bathtub, but no onsen bath. The mountain view was good nonetheless. Food was just okay. A multi-course Japanese dinner. I was promised a shuttle bus that never arrived. Luckily there's a bus stop right in front of the place.

the toilet smelt like a public toilet”
1 star mainly because the toilet area smelt like a public toilet, pee lingered in the air. Asked to change room but which was a little better because they sprayed air freshener! The place could do with refurbishing. Staff were not the friendliest so I do not rate the service but the food was very good for the value.

Excellent Value w/ a Superbly Friendly Staff!”
I was looking for a ryokan during my two-week vacation in Japan to split the hotel stays and experience staying at a traditional Japanese inn. I saw plenty of pricey ryokans and came across Momijiya Honkan which was cheaper than other ryokans I researched but still had great reviews. I can easily say that this ryokan was the best value for the price I paid and the friendliness of the staff exceeded my expectations! The free shuttle from just outside JR Hanazono Station is very convenient, staff was extremely friendly (the entire staff waved goodbye to us on our last day as our shuttle took off and it was very heartwarming), dinner was very filling and not typically things I would order at a restaurant (a good thing), and the view from our "non view" room was still awesome (part road, part mountain). I highly recommend this place!

ฺBest Hospitality in a majestic place”
We loved every bit of our stay in Momijiya, me and my friends spoke countless times of how great it is that we decided to stay there. We did a lot of searching for a Ryokan beforehand and took a shot with Momijiya. The place sits an hour away by bus from the inner city of Kyoto, but it wasnt an issue for us as we really enjoyed the view going up. We were greeted with warm welcome by staff at the bus stop and check-in was a breeze. We booked the Private bath in the evening, and it was superb, highly recommended. The view was breath taking and the facilities were new and well prepared. We walked around to a couple of temples along the river near the hotel, that was nice as well! More than the place itself is the people. The staff really went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as they could. It was the first time I asked to take pictures with one of the hotel's staff, Obachan was so nice... <3 Thank you All in all, highly recommend this hotel :) Nothing short of amazing!!

Paradise in Kyoto Mountains”
We were looking for a traditional hot springs ryokan experience near Kyoto and that's exactly what Momijiya offered. It's located by beautiful mountains and small temples. While it's not very close to the city, the inn provides daily shuttles and pickup to three major locations. The dining was incredible, each meal had many intricate courses and was a unique experience each time. My favorites were the Japanese hot pot (shabu-shabu) and the sushi/tempura, but the kaiseki menu always changes. Our room had tatami mat floors and mountain views and we wore the provided yukata / slippers around the inn. The staff was incredibly polite and always went the extra mile to help guests relax and feel welcomed. One of our favorite parts of our Japan experience!

Great Japanese Style Hotel ”
This hotel had it all! While the hotel did take some time to get to from Kyoto, the staff literally ran to us to greet us outside with a warm welcome. The hotel has both public and private baths. The public bath times change genders so you can experience both rooms. They are both lovely, but one of them includes an outdoor bath overlooking the mountains (absolutely breathtaking!) The private bath was the same way, overlooking the mountains. When we arrived we were surprised to find that there was a special meal provided during the summer months. The meal was served riverside with lanterns lit along the river. The meal was marvelous. The final surprise was that at the end of dinner there were maikos who met with us and then performed. From what I understand in the winter time dinner and the show is still provided but not riverside. Finally, the room also met our expectations. Our room included a bath and toilet along with a fridge and seating area with a mountain view! There are some rooms that also include a balcony bath, but it was out of our price range. I would definitely recommend staying at Momijiya, you won't regret it. It was one of the highlights of our time in Japan!
