Staying at Mugen was one of the top highlights of our trip. Tome was so helpful with planning our time in Kyoto. We also got the BEST sleep on the comfy futons. We will definitely be back !

Beautiful quiet room and excellent service ”
Ryokan Mugen is the best ryokan or hotel I've experienced. The neighborhood is quiet with a FamilyMart, restaurants and shops within three minutes walk and the ryokan is close to multiple bus lines. I liked being further away from Gion and other tourist heavy areas. My single room was well appointed, clean, quiet (even though it faced the small street) and well designed. The futon was very comfortable. I enjoyed talking with Tome, Eugenia and Meimei (English and Mandarin). I loved the Hibiki whisky, which was smooth and easier to drink than Scotch whisky. All their food recommendations were delicious and well priced. The guide books in each room and tourist map were helpful. The ryokan is an incredible value and the Japanese breakfast and laundry service were affordable. Next time, I will plan my Kyoto activities based on their recommendations.

Love the hospitality, attention to details, thoughtfulness of the Mugen team. Especially Tome chan who takes care every detail of our stay in Kyoto, including itinerary planning. Also love their daily breakfast. :) its super delicious. The whisky bar is a great place to chill and unwind.

Lovely place and staff! ”
Stayed here only for one night but it was a lovely experience in a traditional Japanese inn. Staff were wonderful and helped me plan out my trip. Bike rentals are free. One complimentary drink for guests. The premises are a bit small but everything is so well thought outand extremely clean. It’s in a quiet neighborhood so the area is peaceful. The single bed room had everything provided including a nice kimono to lounge in after showering. Breakfast for 700 jpy is worth it, delicious grilled fish and small Japanese dishes to with it. The host and staff were so friendly and helpful! Will definitely come back if I visit Kyoto again!

Stylish and friendly”
Mugen is a very comfortable and beautiful ryokan in a traditional machiya (merchant building) The hosts are incredibly friendly and extremely helpful (helped with tour bookings, restaurants etc) The rooms are very comfortable, breakfasts are delicious and the little whiskey bar is delightful! The location is an easy bus trip within the central bus zone from Kyoto Station and close to the Imperial Palace and Nijo Castle.

Mugen is such a gem. Set in a beautifully redesigned former kimono shop, the renovation is so tasteful and done with such care and attention to detail. The location is very convenient - close to some good bus lines that take you right to many of Kyoto's main attractions but tucked away on a quiet street and with a public bathhouse only steps away. *swoon* Mugen combines a traditional ryokan with modern touches and it does so flawlessly. While at a traditional ryokan breakfast and dinner would be available and served in your room, at Mugen only breakfast is available and served in the common space downstairs. Tome's cooking is some of the best I tasted in Japan and breakfast at Mugen was a great start to the day. Lastly, I cannot thank Tome and her husband enough for being such gracious, welcoming, kind and friendly hosts. They really made my time at Mugen unforgettable!

每天加餐的早餐还蛮好吃的，服务很好，老板娘贴心为你服务，每天提供的一杯欢迎酒也很有意思，这是一群能让你安心入住的人。还有一个台湾妹妹会说中文，人也很好，很认真也很恰如其分的照顾好大家。老板人看着很憨厚。老宅子住起来很舒服，在这里度过了非常开心的时光，有朋友正好生日还收到了生日小礼物很开心的记忆。
