It's good enough as a hostel.”
As someone who has stayed in various guesthouses, I know that hotels, ryokans, and hostels are all different. Looking at it as a guesthouse, I think this facility is very attractive with high cost performance overall. I don't mind some things at this price if I can take a natural hot spring. The bath was good. Just walking around the rustic stone-paved town of Shibu Onsen is well worth coming here. The interior of the room, such as the lighting and wallpaper, was also nice. The environment was quiet and I was able to rest slowly. There were also necessary cooking utensils and seasonings in the mini kitchen, so I made and ate yakisoba. The yu-meguri system is a system where you pay 500 yen at the tourist association to enter. Although there are various comments, I would like to come back again.

Super good value”
The place is old, but you could feel it was a really nice hotel some decades ago. Now they are called "hostel", but honestly, it doesn't feel like a hostel. Big private room and good quality onsen with all the Japanese vibe you need. The price is very affordable. I want to come back.

Good place for a good price”
This is a great stay for the price! Unfortunately, if you stay here, you won't be able to go on the onsen walk around Yamanouchi, which is a real shame, but if you don't care about that, and want to save some money, I think you'll have a fine time. I had my own room with plenty of space.

Great value”
I got a great deal booking two days in advance. If you're paying list price, stay elsewhere. What's good is the location right by many onsen and only 2.5 km from the monkey park. Bathrooms in each room, too. What's bad is that it's old. Little insulation. Kerosene heaters in each room that don't work well and produce gasses you'd rather not breathe for a long time. Another point to consider is the onsen. This town has some public onsen, and some other hotels include the price of entry into said onsen in their room charge, but this place doesn't. So then you would pay for the public baths separately, which affects the value. That all said, I got a great deal, the room was certainly fine, I slept well, and the town is a near flashback into the Showa Era.

Traditional ”
If you are looking for traditional, old, not the cleanest place, then this is for you. One toilet for the whole building, which is not on the floor you sleep. It is old and run down but you do get that unique experience. Walls are very thin.

The best price! ”
If you look for the best price this will be the best option. Its actually quite simple to reach to the hostel from Yudanaka Eki it will take like 5-10 minutes to shibu onsen. After that walking for 3-5 minutes. Yet! The operation of the bus os only for 5 PM. So if you miss the last bus you need to walk about 30-40 minutes. Since it is an economic hostel, for every additional service you need to rent, e.g. towel, yukata, etc.

Good location”
The room itself was large and clean but the hostel is a bit run down and needs some love!

Friendly staff, great onset”
Nozaru is a bit aged and shabby, but Japanese rooms are large and comfortable with own toilet, which is a good deal with that price. The receptionist is really super friendly and helps you where ever she can. Nozaru clients have no access to Nine onsens of Shibu, but hostel has it's own onsen (hot spring) and it is awesome! It is atmospheric and you can use it any time between 4 pm and 9 am and there are both outside and inside pools (and it is much more comfortable from western point of view than those public ones in town).

Exceptional”
It takes about 20 minutes to get to the hotel from Yudanaka station. At first, the hotel does look pretty old and worn out. However, if you ignore that, the rooms are absolutely massive, the staff, especially the receptionist, is such a friendly and lovely woman! I also loved the fact that you have a free onsen available on site. The bus stop is located 5 minutes away and from there you can get both in the direction of the station, as well as Monkey park and Shiga Kogen. Definitely recommended!

Far But Worthy Place”
My first thought is to come to this hostel but I never thought it was far away from Yudanaka Station. Its a quiet and great place to stay, if its not far away. Even though the distance to Snow Monkey Park is about an hour walk, its cozy with heater during winter and hot spring!!! Although no private bathroom, that's okay. The onsen is worth the stay. I don't mine coming back again if there is a chance. The staff is friendly too.

NOZARU Cheers!”
This hostel is fantastic! As a solo traveler, staying in a cozy and simple single room, I felt satisfied! I had a great experience using the Japanese heating table.^^ Also, the hot spring was comfortable but I didn't know the hot springs in this area are all VERY HOT!! Haha~The only inconvenience is that the restroom is downstairs. Anyway, the location is very nice. In addition, the staff is very kind and friendly. The quality of the stay is definitely worth much more than the price! I will choose here again next time coming! (Hope I could use the mini kitchen next time~XD) Thank you very much!

Very cheap and very fun”
It was one of my first times staying at a hostel - I enjoyed meeting people and the facilities were perfectly fine (not to mention the place was very cheap.) It is a long walk from the station (which I had to make during the snow), but the staff kept check in open a bit later for me and it was a nice base of operations in town (close to the Monkey Park, near some nice hot springs, etc.)

Fine by me”
Aside from the grimy carpet and it being a bit chilly throughout the building, I was very comfortable here. The gal at the front desk was very pleasant to talk to and helped out with anything I asked. The onsen was very hot and natural. It was a bit of a hike from Yudanaka station but doable. I booked a dorm style room. It had the entire space to myself! I would visit again.

generally good”
It was super low season when I was there (Spring) but the Hostel, I think used to be a Hotel. Rooms (I had a dorm) are big, and I had one for myself. There weren't a lot of other guests. The in house Onsen is really nice, go to the outdoor area when it's dark.

onsen could have been more clean. far away from the train station.”
i had to walk 30min uphill with my backpack to reach the hostel from the train station. no bus goes all the way there. to go to the monkey park you have to walk 40min uphill as well. again no bus goes there from the hostel. if you stay at this hostel, you can't access any of the other city onsen which is a shame. there is a private onsen but it was not clean, dead insects and white discharge were floatong inside. the staff was great and really helpful though.

Friendly staff, terrific location, clean, coooold!”
The staff were absolutely wonderful and the location perfect for skiing, Onden hopping, monkey park, peace, etc. We visited in the winter and the building (like many in Japan) has no central heat and is damp. The heated tables were excellent. The mini kitchen was typically stocked with odds and ends from other travelers. We only used the onsens located in house, but many others were “onsen hopping” on the street. Staff speak Japanese and English fluently and perhaps other languages if there are volunteers. Enjoyed meeting people from all over the world while there. The extra blankets and mats for under the futons made for a very comfortable sleeping experience. The heater in our room could have been WAY more efficient (kept turning off and never really warmed the room). Bus is within easy walking distance and can get you to larger stations, resorts, or other attractions. Town is fairly easy to walk, too.

Simple but friendly no-frills accommodation.”
People complain that this place is run down, dirty, and this, that and the other doesn't work, but get real! It is an old establishment being run as budget accommodation in an otherwise VERY expensive neighbourhood. You won't get towels, and some of the facilities are not functioning, but what you will get is a very friendly welcome from the lovely Morita-san who will guide you to your simple room where you will find a comfy futon with clean sheets, and a great view of the classic neighbourhood you are staying in. It's priceless!!

Great for budget traveler and had to Onsen to myself at night and in the morning! Amazing!”
As with most places, the common room was kind of cold but the space heater in the room works perfectly fine and kept us warm all night. The decor of the room was really neat.
