Basic service and facilities ”
Stayed two nights. Japanese style room was comfortable and similar to others of equivalent grade. Breakfast buffet spread was disappointing. Kaiseki dinner was good. Onsen was nice enough. Staff spoke little English and front desk staff less helpful than other hotels I’ve stayed in. Will go back to Ryokan Sakaya where I stayed on my last trip.

Great indoor onsen”
The hotel is perched on top of a hill and quite far from the slopes/town but staff were excellent. The indoor onsen was amazing and staff great. The breakfast could be improved which lacked freshness in parts and I got a smoking room by mistake (not indicated in listing) with an intense smell which for a non smoker negatively affected my stay

Incredible Japanese cuisine and ski vacation”
We are a family of two adults and two kids, staying in a very spacious Japanese room with private toilet and bath which is not easily found in Nozawa Onsen village. Staff were extremely polite, kind and helpful serving with smiles always. Really appreciate all the experience we had with Nozawa Onsen Grand Hotel.

Nice stay”
The hotel is well managed, room is comfy, bus stop right in front of the hotel, staff is friendly and helpful, some are english speaking. The view from our room is very beautiful. The outdoor bath is very nice. Will come back again if we visit Nozawa Onsen.

Private Onsen and so much room!”
We were ecstatic to find that the local bus from the train station dropped us at the front door of the hotel (last stop), this hotel has it's own bus stop! The room was wonderful, very large with a seated area seperate to the futon room, a large bathroom which connected to your own private outdoor onsen. You can sit in the onsen and look out over the rooves of the little houses and up to the mountain. It's a beautiful setting. The hotel itself is not modern, but it is definitley in keeping with others in the town. The Nozawa Onsen resort is huge and has a great range of varying terrain. There is a little chair that will take you down from the mountain, which is only a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Excellent”
Delicious dinner on both nights. We were initially very disappointed having booked the hotel for its private outdoor onsen which after paying(non refundable) we were told was not going to be open due to snow, which given this weather should really have been expected and explained, however staff were very accommodating and upgraded us to a room with its own outdoor bath so we really enjoyed our stay. The food (especially dinner) was delicious!

Exceptional”
Note: I got half price room prices because it was off season. Outdoor onsen is fantastic though.

Far from its own Grand Hotels standard in onther cities”
The biggest disappoontment was the outdoor onsen that was not open 24 hrs. Other hotels, including same chain Grand Hotels in other cities have 24hrs access for the hotel guests.

Comfortable beds but average stay”
The staff were polite and helpful. There would be at least one staff per day who spoke excellent English whom we could communicate with easily. We could get our ski lift tickets from reception at a discount. The rooms with private open air baths were unavailable to us by the time we booked. We were pretty disappointed since we stayed during low season and on weekdays, we were hoping there would be a vacancy. Subsequently my partner didn't try the Onsen at all as he was too shy to go my himself. As for the Onsen, I have to agree with the previous reviews that having the open air bath in a separate area with no shower facilities where you have to take a lift too is very inconvenient and very poor planning by management. We only have breakfast on our first morning during our stay. The Japanese breakfast buffet was satisfactory. Do try their soft Hokkaido butter, it was awesome. However the stale croissants were very disappointing though. If you wish to have light breakfast before skiing, you can try the steam buns at Haus St Anton at O-Yu street. They open quite early. Otherwise, inside the cafeteria above Uenotaira station, they have amazing croissants and other baked breads freshly baked on the spot. Lastly, the steep hike up the hotel can be a pain. Or a good chance for a workout. Fortunately, we had our luggage sent to the hotel from Tokyo.

Wonderful spacious room with private outdoor bath ”
Great stay. Were there for only one night, snowboarded both days. We had a private outdoor bath but they also have a public one to be used on 3rd floor. Walking distance to the slopes. Walking distance for nightlife. Great staff, very nice and clean hotel.

Nice Hotel right overlooking the ski slopes ”
We had a great stay, the room is clean and large, had its own bathroom and private Onsen. There was only one drawback, we had to pay an extra $77AUD as the room was booked for only 1 person, we are a married couple, so I was not too happy with that. Otherwise very good

Excellent hotel”
A hotel of this standard might reasonably be expected to provide pickup & dropoff service to local transport points.(bus& train)

Very helpful staff ”
Everything is good, the reception miki is super helpful, she helped us book restaurant, bus and all other things we asked. Room is clean and spacious. Snow resort lift is only 5 mins walk. The only negative is they don’t have dry room for snow shoes and gloves etc.

Very near the ski lift. The ride on ski lift was awesome with a very beautiful view. ”
Indoor onsen was great but for the outdoor as there was no bath makes it inconvenient to use.
