Serenity getaway for couple”
We arrived around 2:30 pm and were looking for lunch. This traditional place has a time for every meals & we had missed it and we did not know before. Mr Akiyama kindly offered to make us udon. Mr Soma was v helpful and he showed us the facilities around the onsen, give us tips on place to visit around the area. The onsen is clean and neat. Hair dryers, towels, bath soaps, shampoo etc were provided. The breakfast and dinner were well prepared & Soma explained the dishes and how we should serve and eat. All in all we had a peaceful & recharged tranquil two days away in the remote but beautiful ohara. It was Autumn when we visited and it was full of the red and yellow leaves in the area very beautiful scene.

Amazing staff, quality authentic ryokan service”
I had actually misplace my necklace in the Ryokan. The staff managed to find it and is planning to mail it to me in my home country. The experience is authentic as it is a small Ryokan located in Ohara. Meals were an amazing authentic experience. Would recommend as it is definitely worth the price point.

Nice town nice package and value for money”
The Ryokan is not able to reach by walk from the final stop bus station, but no worries, there will be a van to pick you up from bus station, and you will need to prepare the money in your mobile to call the resort host. The Ryokan is real traditional Japanese that you can experience real Japan. Ohara has not much population and people are just nice as local, most of them are farmers. Ohara is charming and cute surrounded by greenery and mountain. The village is really quiet, but I've never felt alone when I traveled alone...

Thank you for your staying. For details of facilities such as shared baths, toilets and washrooms, please check in advance before making a reservation. My inn is a "Minshuku", so there are no facilities like a "Ryokan". My inn is the facilities of an old Japan country inn. Thank you.
the worst hot-spring accomodation i have even had”
To me, I would say it is a bathhouse, more than hot-spring. The worst hot-spring accomodation i have even had.

Thank you for staying. My Minshuku aims to maintain Minshuku, a traditional Japanese countryside. So the type is different from the hotel in front of the station or modern Ryokan. There are no convenient and comfortable facilities compared to them. If you need comfortable and convenient facilities, the hotel in front of the station is better. Basically, all of my Minshuku services are self-service. Instead, you can experience Minshuku, a traditional Japanese countryside. Futon, Miso, Onsen, Kotatsu, Nature, etc. Recently, facilities like my Minshuku have been reduced. I am sorry that this time did not fit your taste. Thank you.
HEAVENLY!”
Ohara no sato is a quaint little hovel in North Kyoto; even though Ohara sounds like its part of Kyoto, it feels like a small village on its own actually. There's only a few buses that go to Ohara from Kyoto station (you HAVE to do your research properly on transport). People in Ohara are marvelously helpful and nice, though I wouldn't recommend going there without at least some basic Japanese knowledge. Onsen is heavenly for first-timers whom never tried Onsen before. Water is just nice at 28C and there's 3 small public baths (including 2 open baths) + not much crowd. At night it has literally the bare minimal street lamps in rural surroundings, though walking/exploring in the daytime is very refreshing and fun. Please do not attempt to go the hotel at night; tery to travel to Ohara no Sato before sundown or esle you will stuck navigating in the darkness alone. Like i said, it is literally a village on its own and activity dies down after sunset.

Awsome Experience”
We took the bus from Kyoto to Ohara No Sato for one night to experience traditional Japanese Bed & Breakfast with Hot Spring. The ride took about 50 minutes, and we called the Inn at the bus station for a pick up, and there were there within 10 minutes. You could ask the bus station attendee for an area map and walk there, and it should be less than 15 minutes. It was cold and snowy, and we had a medium suitcase with us, so waited for the pick up service. The room and the inn is very authentic Japanese, and there is a public bathroom. Dinner was amazing! It was a nice miso soup hot pot. Make sure you are ready to eat while sitting on the floor and also sleeping is on the floor, that's Japanese style. The onsen experience was amazing, because it was outdoor with bamboo trees around, and it was snowing! They switched the male and the female onsen every other day so you get to experience a slightly different setting. The staffs speak very little English, but enough. "Food, rice here, shower there, bed here, key here, safety box there, dinner 7pm. etc."

Great staff, relaxing atmosphere, good food”
First of all, communicating with the staff was very convenient. We came right at the tails of a typhoon with evacuation warnings but they helped assure us of the safety and whether or not the buses were running. They were also super considerate and willing to allow us to cancel for free the day before. They provide shuttle service to and from Ohara bus stop, which was important since we arrived at 8pm when it was dark. Most of the staff had at least basic level of English to communicate. Check in was a breeze and they let us eat dinner (which we booked with the room) as they processed our ID’s/passport (make sure to have your passport/zairyu). The miso nabe was flavorful and more than enough. The unlimited side dishes and various kinds of miso were a treat. The rooms were tatami, clean with a/c and a fan. The baths were also clean and functional. 15mins from bus stop,5mins from Jikkoin. Ohara is known for shiso but do try Oohara no sato’s miso and miso ice cream, if you dare.

escape into the mountains”
Ohara No Sato was an absolute delight. We loved the facility, the staff and the food. The onsens were fabulous! Especially since we had the surprise of a fresh snow fall! It was wonderful. We highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to enjoy a traditional Japanese guest house and onsen. We only stayed one night but would recommend two minimum.

Relaxing cultural and countryside experience”
Excellent ryokan! Very close to Sanzen-in Temple, one of the best temples and gardens I've experienced. Great, friendly staff who picked us up at the Ohara bus station. Great location for people who want to avoid crowds of tourists and quiet nights with an onsen that looks out towards the mountains. Natural hot spring tub with maple leaves hanging overhead and mountains in the background. Excellent place for meditating and relaxing. We went sightseeing in Kyoto on day one, and the walk back at night from the bus station to the ryokan was peaceful with lots of stars in the sky. Kyoto Station is one hour from Ohara bus station. Very grateful I chose this ryokan!

Nice traditional accomodation”
The hotel is 1 hr bus ride away from Kyoto Station. However it is totally worth it. Make sure to call them once you reach the bus station at Ohara and they can pick you up from there to the hotel. The food, the room, and the environment is very traditional Japanese. Again, the food was very nice, Dinner and breakfast are served in generous amounts. They were very nice about providing nice vegetarian food for me (include in the special requests, if that's your case). The room I got was in front of a garden, very simple yet relaxing as long as you don't mind sleeping in the floor with a futton. In the morning I did not have a chance to explore the area much, but it look like a nice countryside place. In summary, I totally recommend it if you want to stay at a traditional and reasonably priced accomodation.

Authentic experience. ”
Ohara No Sato is tucked in treeline on a lush hillside. Ohara is a very charming farming village with important temples near by. Expect to : wear a yukata, sleep on tatami, eat local miso hotpot, be naked with strangers and respect the rules and traditions of a Japanese onsen.

Wonderful rural getaway”
I had an amazing time with my partner at Ohara no Sato Onsen. The package we got included a free dinner and a free breakfast the next morning, both of which featured traditional Japanese food with local miso varieties (all of which were delicious). It is situated on top of a hill so the air was fresh, the scenery was beautiful and there were little shops and a small temple to visit within walking distance as well. The room and hot springs (including a small outside one) were a little aged but still clean and agreeable. It was not super easy to get to, as it is about an hour outside Kyoto city but accessible by public transport. I would recommend it if you would like an experience outside the hustle and bustle of the city.

Great experience”
Ohara is a beautiful place to visit. The Onsen experience is definitely a must try when you visit kyoto! Ohara No Sato is a very much a traditional Onsen set up, with the tatami traditional Japanese-style rooms. The downside is, i find the pool alittle too small. Otherwise all is good.

Dear Guest, Thank you for the great review of our Minshuku! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon. Sincerely,
Lovely ryokan with fantastic view ”
This place is fantastic. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, giving me tips and advice on how to get around and what I should take note of (the fact that buses run on a fixed 20-min schedule, there may not be return buses if I stay out too late, the dark, etc.) The Miso Nabe and Sukiyaki was to die for; the beef melts in your mouth. The staff were also very patient in teaching me how to properly cook the sukiyaki. This place is very near Jakko-in Temple and Sanzen Temple, but also quite far from the city (1 hour by Kyoto Bus #17 from Kyoto Station and 1 km walk in from the Ohara bus stop). Will take some getting used to if you don't like long rides and walks.

Good outdoor bath experience”
Ohara No Sato was great. If you want to experience a Japanese Ryokan in a rural district, I recommend this place. But don't be surprised to see a little dust here and there, since the building seems quite old.

Thank you for coming to stay. My inn is located in the countryside where old-fashioned rural landscapes take about an hour from Kyoto station. My inn is a traditional rural inn. I would like to continue to maintain a rural lodge in the old days. So there is no urban sophisticated buildings, facilities and services in my inn. But it suits you to experience old-fashioned Japanese countryside. The season of autumnal leaves is coming soon, it is so wonderful that if you have the opportunity come and stay again. Thank you.
