The room was spacious and clean. The outdoor hot bath were excellent and big. They had a rest corner with a traditional Japanese style fire place set in the middle. You could sit there and read with a cup of hot green tea or do massage. The lighting festival was wonderful.

This is good hotel if you want to try Japanese style hotel for normal price; everything looks fine. check in 3PM, as usual in Japan. Some hours male or female inside onsen bath.

We had a great stay here. The second night we were the only guests in the hotel so enjoyed both baths privately. The owners are fantastic people. We do hope to come back again someday.

Charming little ryokan in Okuhida”

This ryokan is a charming onsen with very sympathetic staff. Dinner was a great experience prepared with care and detail. It offered a degustation of most Japanese foods including sashimi, soba, hida beef and tofu. Breakfast was traditional and also very tasty. As to the thermal baths, they were gender-separated and changed sides at 9am in the morning and at 11pm at night. There were each three pools of different temperatures, with one inside and two outside pools or vice versa. The spa area was nice, but relatively small and more on the rustic side than luxurious. The rooms are traditional Japanese style and very pleasant. The hotel is very easy to get to: it's located right at the Shin-Hirayu bus stop on the Shinhotaka ropeway bus line out of Hirayu Onsen. There is no Wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby, but that one is very good. Overall, an excellent experience!

Amazing onsen in beautiful town. ”

What a gem. I'm so glad we booked this place for two nights. So peaceful and such a beautiful town in the mountains. First, some advice I wish we had known - BRING CASH YEN TO THE MOUNTAIN TOWNS. This turned out to be a nightmare for us. Bring MORE than you think you need. There are no ATMs and credit cards are not often taken. Make sure you've changed your cash to yen as there is only one post office that can exchange money and it is closed in the evenings and weekends. Second, getting here is a journey if you come by public transportation. Once you arrive at the Hirayu-Onsen main bus terminal, you will need to take the bus heading toward Shin-Hotaka Ropeway. AKA, UP the mountain. The closest stop to Okuhida Onsengo Nakadaya is the "Shin Hirayu Onsen" stop, which is in between the Fukuchi-guchi and Tochio stops. Once you get off at Shin-Hirayu Onsen stop, look for the "logo" of this hotel, it will be on the left hand side if you're coming up the mountain. The onsen was beautiful. We did not eat here, so we can't comment on the food. The owners were so lovely and English was fine, but I do speak bare-bones Japanese. Onsens were lovely, you can book the family one for 1000 yen. The only recommendation I have for this onsen would be to let families go into the family ones for free, especially when they are not at full occupancy. This area is beautiful, we went in summer (June), but I would love to come back in winter.

Better ryokan”

The location is too far from Takayama town if you don't drive. Bus is restricted by timing. This is really an onsen village, nothing other than nature and a nice river. No shopping at all. My stay with this ryokan did not come with dinner; only breakfast is provided, but food was good. Room come with toilet no bath. Room is spacious and clean. Nohi bus stops right in front of this ryokan, but we drove.
